It would actually be very interesting to see the sony fanboys backpedal if lockheart was 7 or 8 teraflops for $299, all of sudden 10 teraflops would be a "huge" gap vs 8, even though they say as it stands 10 vs 12 is nothing.
This wouldn't be interesting at all, we have seen this before. 2013-2017 TF > all, 2017-present TF? Totally overrated.

Microsoft is a data driven/for profit company. People don't usually buy 500-600 dollar consoles (which I'm assuming the XSX will be priced at). This is even more apparent with their release of the Xbox One X (even when it was discounted to $299, no one wants it). With that said, the spin and backpedaling in this thread is crazy.
I actually think that is changing now. Mobile Phones has got people accepting a high price for a piece of electronics, and so a console at a third of the price of a top of the line Iphone that can last you 7 years actually looks like real good value.

So we went from 10.3 to 12TF being a MASSIVE, incomparable leap. And anyone suggesting there are other factors to consider such as SSD speeds is part of Sony Defense Force.

Now, we are at the point where a 4TF Xbox Series S is way more powerful than the 6TF Xbox One X, because there are other factors to consider like the SSD.

Interesting backpedaling going on here.

Oh come on. You are smarter than this post.

4 TF is enough for next-gen AT 1080P. 4 TF is nowhere near enough (and even 10.3 isn't enough) for 4K next-gen.

At least in my case, I don't care for 4K, since I don't have any mean to enjoy content at that resolution....and with this economic depression, I seriously doubt many people will buy a new TV just for a 4K console (or even a 4K console they can't fully enjoy).

Did you forget Microsoft minecraft demo showcasing RT was running at 1080P ? It all comes down to devs and what resolution, gfx detail and fps they want to achieve. Sadly Xbox S version is going to decide this now.

I predict massive sales for Lockhart, in fact I see the combined XSS and XSX sales outselling the ps5 globally all due to the lower entry price of XSS and the Xbox diehards and just console fanboys buying the more powerful, and expensive XSX.

The ps5 sales will be massive but with game pass and xcloud and new studios with new games and subscription models plus 2 price options on the Xbox next gen system, i see Phil's genius plan to win....a win for MS. I think the combination of their strategies and improvements for MS a game, set, match for next gen. My two cents.

If it's a signficantly weaker GPU and has a regular HDD, and all games for XSX have to run on both, then what is even the point of the high spec Xbox? It's so shackled.

PR over small resolution differences. The Xbox one x sold very few units in comparison to regular Xbox one and got little true support but it removed the negative press about power.

The fact that Microsoft are even remotely considering a second cheaper unit on launch says alot.

SONY has hit the sweet spot when it comes to price and power.
Just stop.

Development of Lockhart style console is something you can't do in 6 months. And before that you just can't predict what will your competitor show. ALso, I wouldn't be sure about that "sweet spot PS5" price since that SSD drive certainly isn't cheap.

It's simple. Microsoft have this strategy, because they found out that even after XOneX release, people just bought XOneS more because of cheap price. So they figured out that many people doesn't care about 4K stuff and just want to have something that isn't as expansive to play their games on. And they couldn't just take XOneX to next-gen because of ancient CPU in that console. So they created Lockhart.

It's clear that it was their strategy from the beginning, because Lockhart rumors kept coming out since start of 2019 and at that time thy just couldn't predict what will Sony come up with in terms of power and price

This explains that "PS5 is outperforming Xbox" rumor.
I don't think so.
I think that there is only one Development kit with two modes - Anaconda and Lockhart that devs can switch.

I think that "PS5 is outperforming Xbox" rumors came up in time, when devs didn't have final Xbox devkits. Many people including Jason Schreier claimed, that Xbox is "behind" PS5 in terms of delivering their devkits to devs.

Heaven forbid MS make a decision based on their own data rather than the opinions on teh internets.

The problem with a cheaper alternative is that its not seen as a next gen console. Microsoft are trying to box sony in, but all they are doing is creating a podium for sony. Lockhart and series x will be doa for different reasons. I suspect sony will do a ps2 - delay it until spring 2021, and people will wait for it rather than waste their money on the xbox.

what? XSX exists for a reason:

XSX $499
PS5 $499
XSS $299

Do you want the most powerful console and have a 4K TV? Get XSX.
Do you only have a 1080p TV and don't need the best graphics? Get XSS.

1080p is not next gen though. The biggest issue has been the launch of these pro models. It has more or less guaranteed that the jump to next gen will be barely noticeable apart from the ssd speeds.

I don’t like the idea of a lower spec model at launch. Lockhart graphics won’t be much better than xbox one x - whats the point? Just a reskin i guess. The problem is that Sony could probably carry this off, but Microsoft can’t. What really troubles me is that Microsoft is really pushing for a subscription model, which is cheapening the value of videogames greatly.

Never pay more then 20.00 for a computer game. That is from the 80’s. Were they devaluing gaming back then too?

It rings just as true now as it did back then and they overinflated their value over time. Its time somebody brought them back to earth.

Here is a good article on it.

Enough? Doubt it.

As the generation goes on, 12TF won't be enough for Native 4K.

The real secret is that most are like this anyway. The only thing holding them back is fear and accountability, which disappears on the internet.
Facebook disagrees. They do it with their account being perfectly public and their name being right there.

Something about making them not have to fear being hit or any other repercussions brings out the best in them.

I don't necessarily like the idea of splitting the playerbase with two different skus from the very beginning, but maybe Microsoft has a method to their madness. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now, but I'm going to need some more information to get me on board that train. Having to program for the lowest common denominator doesn't push the envelop forward fast enough.

The only thing devs will scale back on are the graphics. Everything XSX does at 4K should be doable at 1080P on a 4TF console with the same architecture.
Not sure why as a gamer you're worried about that. If you don't like Lockhart there is both XSX and PS5.
I don't think there is any point releasing a new console that will target 1080p. I mean hell, you can get a 43 inch 4K/HDR TV for $200 nowadays.

Sad that its just same box . For this power it could be easily portable console like switch and the be connected at home if you wish to big tv and use controller.
Just smaller less powerfull home console, who even wants that or need that ? Cheaper, so what, consoles are cheap anyway compare to pc's or phones even.
At home we need maximum power maximum visuals not some weak box.

so you’ve seen it?

Are the rumoured specs true?

What would you compare it to?

Microsoft don’t want generations, what they want is a constant stream of monthly subscription income and they will do it by any business methods possible. The series x is for the serious gamers and the series s is for casuals who they can convince on to their subscription model once they have them on board. Once they are tied to a subscription they are unlikely to move elsewhere.

Sony want clear, defined generations as highlighted by the numbering of the console and new controller design. The series x design is largely based on the xbox one x. Even the controller is very similar. I reckon the series s will be white and pitched against the ps5.

The other issue Microsoft have is that their model number will never be ahead of sonys, so they have to go with different model names every generation.

So by that same logic, XSX games won't look next gen since the One X already did 4K.

The 5500M is a 4.6 TF 85W Navi product, and for a mobile gaming system you need around 15W. It's better to look at the 4800U, which is 15W for the CPU + GPU and seems to perform around PS4 levels.

Tell that to all my friends, who just want to play new games & don't care about power, numbers, 4K etc... I'm casual as well, so I know a bunch of these people, they treat console gaming like a another entertainment next to cinema, sport, Netflix, DAZN, Amazon Prime etc. Not that serious like you, guys.

Microsoft with Lockhart will fill the gap for casuals, previously filled by cheap, old gen & current gen 4-5yrs after launch. It will help gain market shares and this is exactly what they need - for their monthly subscription services like Game Pass and xCloud.

Good price ($299) & it will be massive success. It's good or bad for hardcore gamers like you, guys? I don't know, we'll see about that...

This is kind of interesting if Xbox does a hard discontinue on the Xbox one console range entirely, and if lockhart outperforms the Xbox One X.

That way MS will have Lockhart and Series X on the shelves while Sony has PS4, pro and PS5...

If MS keeps the Xbox One, and has a Series X and a Series S all on shelves at the same time- Their marketing team is a nightmare.

Xbox one will be on shelves . Only x1x is being discontinued now (according to reports)

x1s,xss,xsx( you gotta admit that these naming are really bad and confusing lol)

Possible, but damn having half the RAM and 1/3 of the GPU power is still quite the

for the XSX. It's like when the 360 launched without a HDD and only a DVD drive and all 3rd party games had to be made with that in mind.

GPU should be the most scalable thing on the hardware. Dropping the resolution to sub 1080p may need to happen for games that can’t run 4K on the XSX.

and i see another problem, if you need to make game support this 4tf console, how it will look or play then on next gen. ported. ? next gen engines for new games should be next gen engines that wont run on these days consoles, if they do whats point of calling it next gen at all.

I know nothing has been reported. But the more I think of it... Why continue to make the xbox one S?

If Lockhart is around the PS4 in price and plays all xbox one games anyways? Plus can move forward with next gen features?

I agree. Discontinuing the OneX, but still having the OneS doesn't really make sense. Pretty sure they are discontinuing both, and lockhart will be max $299, and have the power of a OneX with next-gen features.

Its not .we have seen the 4tf number enough that it is for sure real.

Thats good. Cause Im expecting MS to market it as close as possibe to 9tfps and than MS employee’s and fanboys go advertising its as strong as PS5.
That MS payroll. “Stock” investors too lol.

Pretty sure that's not happening. If Lockhart is $299, no one is ever going to believe it will be as good as a $450-$499 PS5.

We will see. Im seeing posts and suggestions replying to my post when I suggested its lockhard is 7tflops.

Theres saying that would be amazing and make the PS5 fans melt.... lol. So close to 9tflops......

I am a Playstation fan, I just contributed into the xbots phyche of winning a console war.

For sure xbots “cough” MS employee’s will try and make the arguements its close to PS5 power

It would be the same difference from Series X to Series S than Switch docked from undocked. Not bad.
Also, a Series X to replace every Xbox console from last gen. Microsoft is used to stop production the previous gen for the next one in few months. It has no sense to keep XBOX, you can use Series X for retrocompability up to 4K, 4K XBOX games and 1080p next gen games. Series S is a win for everyone.

Yeah but 7TF is something completely else than 4TF of course.
