Curious to see gameplay but I honestly expected more on the visuals. Couldn't get into XIV because of the graphics, animations and physics. Something feels off every time I try the game.

I know Its unrealistic to expect them to go back to XIII style but... Mai model looks super weird for instance. Like a lot more how she is in DOA6

The balls of releasing a new game in 2021 with less than 16 characters
Exactly. I'll take snk graphics with alot of characters vs Ark Systems works multiple versions plus expensive DLC characters bullshit. Who could forget Xrd, Xrd Revelator, and Xrd Revelator 2. Cel shading is nothing new or impressive. Can't count how many Naruto games and others I've seen using it through the years.

give this channel a go maybe learn a thing or two in the process
Even if technically impressive it does not change the fact that arksys games LOOK like jank. The artstyle is on point. But their gameplay feels broken and disjointed to me. The animation does not match up with what's on screen. So many times moves that don't look like they hit connected.

So what? Each GG character is deep as hell (and it takes tons of time to develop them with this level of detail). If you want tons of characters you can always go play Smash.

Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite also comes to mind with 40 ugly characters (and most of them recycled from mvc3).

I love the art style of Ark Systems but their practices are scummy as fuck
Shut up and pay eight to ten dollars per dlc character. You will pay for valkenhein.

And kof 14 had a cast of fifty characters at launch no dlc. And yet ypu fuckers all said muh grafix. I bought kof 14 THREE times. A launch ps4 copy, a download copy and a pc copy.

That's an abortion of game.

Truly the most piece of shit game Capcom released in the last 20 years.

Watchu talking about? I don't have any new Guilty Gear, but I have KOF 14.

They could have the shittiest graphics in the world and I'll still prefer KOF. lol

For me the worst part is that they replace smooth animation with lots of spark effects. KOF always prioritized animation and never cut corners even in complicated sequences. here is an example (timestamped)

20 unique frames of animation for a kick with complex movement? SNK used to put more effort on a normal than the effort other developers put on a super.

I'm glad they didn't go with an ArcSys aesthetic because that would've gone against everything SNK has stood for.

Bitches don't know i can roman cancel my overdrive into a fatal virginity.

Nah just dream cancel that shit while in max mode.
I'm 100% sure that KOF XIV has more depth than any of the GG Xrd games, and from what we've seen Strive is already simplified compared to previous games.

Well, a lot of the stuff in KOF XIV are in the previous iterations of other KOF games. Strive is working completely differently from previous GGs. The engine isn't the same Xrd's, this is like Street FIghter Alpha to Street Fighter 3. Or better yet Red Earth to Street Fighter 3, since 3 used the same engine but modified.

Secondly, I was talking about the engine not the mechanics of the game itself. Everyone knows that Strive is more simplified than previous series.

Thirdly you can't really say that KOF XIV is more complex than Rev 2 unless you know ins and outs of those games. So imo it can be argued which is more complex but at the highest level, both games are really difficult for anyone to get good in.

FYI I love both games.

Never gonna dream cancel no more no more. Last time I did that I went from playing kof 11 to kof 12.

Even though I appreciate that they've given Mai some nice curves, the game just doesnt look very hot overall.
Team Ninja were making character models like the one in my avatar back in 2012. Whats taking these guys so long?

Well, they don't have the money that Team Ninja/Tecmo has. KOF 13 almost made them go for broke literally.

as all fucking modern fighters.
it's a cancer in the whole genre and it made me just not buy any fighter day 1 and just wait until the finished version comes out.
DOA6 taking the crown in bullshittery
Agreed but I think Granblue takes the crown because it locks away like half the cast behind DLC on day one if I remember correctly. I think you even had to pay for stages and colors as well. Not to mention the game never goes on sale.

It also has terrible animation like most Arks games. Feel like I'm looking at cardboard cutouts.

Too many people seem to be more interested how the game looks during cinematics, intros or cutscenes instead of how it looks during gameplay.

Yeah I'm really failing the see what's so impressive about this shit:

FighterZ and the rest. Is it because it looks like a cartoon in still images?

Characters look lifeless.

Mai using the same rehashed voiceover mp3 since '96. Me bouncy every friggin year.

I'm sorry but Arc wins hands down.

It looks like 2D sprites. That's what's impressive about it.

That is simply not true. From XIV onwards, SNK replaced the aging voice actors with younger ones, including Mai.

uh oh, Is this XV in game? its so ugly. It's in desperate need of some volumetric fog or at least contrast adjustment to differentiate foreground and background. They also need some fake bounce light on the characters, the heavy black shading is amateur stuff that makes every material look like metal, it also makes the overall lighting seem dull and artificial which is the opposite of the colourful / vibrant look they are going for. Detail management overall is poor, it's like they haven't settled on a consistent level of detail and abstraction so you get some materials that are overdetailed and others look barren. Colour choice in general is pretty garish and random. This isn't expensive it's basic art direction, what are they doing?

also that Leona outfit sucks.

Sprite fighting games stopped being impressive a long time ago.
What's impressive about it is not that they look like sprites per-se, is that they emulated the look with 3D models.

It's the same principle animation studios use to do anime series/movies in 3D but with the look and low framerate of hand drawn animation.

If you still don't think that's a technical and artistic achievement, we'll just have to leave it at that.
