Jeff Grubb: "Starfield is exclusive to Xbox and PC. Period."

That has to be the dumbest take / interpretation I have heard since a long time in these forums. But I'll leave it at that so that you don't further embarrass yourself.
Steam did kinda tried to make themselves less reliant on Windows and did kinda fail. They are both reliant on each other.

A game for Windows is always a win for Microsoft, if you look at one of the issues of Stadia, it's the fact that you had to redevelop your game for Linux. Luna is just outright licensing Windows and assume that GeForce Now is.

Steam is an integral part of the Windows (Microsoft) ecosystem and Windows is an integral part of Steams strategy (short term and possibly long-term)

Lol the guy who said he had insider knowledge that we'll get Elden Ring news and trailer back in March? 😂

In any case i hope Starfield ends up good and remains exclusive.God knows how much Xbox needs it.

I don't get why it is surprise. If Sony bought Bethesda nobody would question Starfield exclusivity for one second.

But it is funny because Sony wanted console exclusivity for game. Now they end up not having game at all...

its a surprise because sony fans dont actually like games or gaming. They only like games or gaming as long as its being made on a pastic that has the jap logo on it. When sony fans were spending all those years saying microsoft doesnt have any exclusives and they'd buy one if they did, they were lying of course. They were just inflating their tribal alegiance to the jap corporation.

After all the games from microsoft's studios start puring out it will be such a glorious time to watch sony fans manifest themselves online.

It never made any sense to make a blanket statement announcing exclusivity for every game in a press release.

They will announce them game by game during conferences where millions of people are watching for PR boosts.

It’s still wrong. It should be microsoft exclusive but then have a disclaimer that minimum system specification applies

Over what? How is something exclusive when it’s available on 2 platforms at the same time. You can play it on anything that runs windows? No. It’s xbox console exclusive and also available on pc.

But, that’s why I said the title was wrong. It’s not exclusive on xbox and pc. Like deathloop. It will be on PS5 and PC. So it’s a console exclusive PS and also on pc.

so every PlayStation exclusive should be seen as “potential PlayStation exclusive” or “PlayStation exclusive for now”

Sony are quite openly talking about how they plan to support pc MORE in the future, with the launch of horizon and days gone we see they are keen to put big exclusives on pc. There’s no way horizon 2 isn’t coming to pc at some point either. So how can we really call any PlayStation game an exclusive going forward, it’s too vague.

you mention deathloop but call it a console exclusive, that’s even worse when we know it’s just timed for one year because Sony bought it...it’s not exclusive at all because it’s just timed.

The only company with true exclusives now is Nintendo.

Microsoft runs two platforms, they have windows and they have Xbox. They put everything gaming under the Xbox brand, gamepass And windows gaming. It’s exclusive to he devices they support. Simples really.

so really, it’s all bollox.

You can’t say microsoft exclusive because people would expect to be able to play it on a tablet or something
And you think they won't be able to? To be clear framerates will be awfully shit on Windows tablets of today but it will run...and on Windows tablets in 5-10 years? It'll probably run surprisingly well.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I'll believe it when I see it.

Far too many times over the past 15 years I've been told that you can only play some game or other is on Xbox, and how it is never, ever coming to PlayStation. Some 2-3 years later, it shows up on PlayStation with enhancements, added features, and DLC in tow. You can go all the way back to 2004 and see how Ninja Gaiden was Xbox exclusive, only for Ninja Gaiden Sigma to show up on PS3.

Phil Spencer also speaks like a politician when it comes to these matters.

Interviewer: "Are Starfield, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout now exclusive to Xbox and PC?"

Phil Spencer: "Game Pass will be the best place to play exclusive titles."

Interviewer: (confused) "So that means those games will never release on PlayStation?"

Phil Spencer: "They will release on platforms where Game Pass is available and a legacy exists."

Interviewer: (still confused) "What ... what does that mean? What do you mean by 'legacy'? Why can't you just say yes or no? Do you have the same spin doctor as Boris Johnson or something?!"

Phil Spencer: "Xbox Series S will sell more than Xbox Series X, and will surpass the lifetime sales of PlayStation 2."

Interviewer: "oh my god ..."

Who is Jeff Grubb?

Also, I kinda need to see some kind of gameplay before I start feeling butthurt about this.
It's like he is an official ambassador for XBOX, I don't get how he gets so much attention considering his online presence is only big in places like GAF and ERA.

Bethesda last good game was so many years ago, I'll go ahead and just say that hey have failed to evolve as developers and are stuck in their Fallout 3 era, so I don't really get why Starfield is so hyped by some people.

Only id software is in shape.

That’s true. That guy chose his wording very poorly.

From Phil;

the thing I want you to know is this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists. And that's our goal, that's why we're doing this

Game Pass exists on the PC platform, so they’re happy to sell their games there (even on Steam).

If Sony want Zeni games, they need to allow Game Pass.

It’s a really simple situation to be honest. You may feel strongly that Sony won’t ever allow this, and that’s fine, but if they don’t they’ll never have the big Zeni titles like TES, Fallout and Doom on their platform again. (The issue with this is Microsoft can keep buying publishers to increase their leverage).

Because he panders to a certain group of people on the internet and gives them the information they want to hear if it is wrong.. But then he also adds words like I think, probably, likely, to cover his own ass when things go wrong.

Just 2 months ago, he said we will see Elden Ring in March. We never did, and he backtracked. Then he said Battlefield will be revealed on May 6. It didn't. Then the genius tweeted on May 7 that Battlefield isn't being revealed on May 6 (no shit, Sherlock, it's May 7 already!) and will be revealed later (of course, it's not like they canceled the game!).

PS. He is the same guy who said that he won't review or preview Returnal by Sony (why? why was he so angry about?!). Then he did review Returnal and gave it a 6/10 (which brought the overall Metacritic score down by 1 point) just because he doesn't like rougelite games. He also thinks that Crackdown 3 was a masterpiece and better than Spider-Man PS4.

Very unlikely. It will definitely come on Gamepass day one, but I don't believe it is an Xbox/PC exclusive.

Bethesda announced the game before MS's acquisition completed for a reason. MS perhaps may leverage a timed-exclusivity deal at best, but even that has a 10% chance in my eyes. It'll likely just release day one on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Microsoft windows is a Microsoft platform..they are done with "just on console" thing following Sony in a war that would seem then always as losers . Now is the opposite with them beating hard Sony with the user reach and user base

It's an open platform running on microsoft OS that allows everyone to dump games in there, not just xbox. Sony sells games for pc. And microsoft gets not money from software sales unless they're their own.

I'm tired of people claiming the millions of people playing on pc somehow are part of the xbox/microsoft ecosystem.

Yeah, agreed. It's a stupid argument, and one that I am not getting into again because I'm really tired of it.

I don't mind accepting that "Xbox/PC" is a partially exclusive game. The real battle is b/w the two consoles anyway, and PC gets the indirect benefits of this battle. But it is ludicrous to say that PC is a Microsoft platform. It is not. It is not until unless MS releases the game on PC exclusively on the Microsoft store and PC Gamepass.

Steam is not a Microsoft paltform. EGS is not a Microsoft platform. Microsoft/Xbox gets the same 30% and 18% cut that other developers get on these stores. If it were Microsoft's platform, they'd be getting 100% of the cut as they do on Xbox.

Some people inexplicable claim the PC space as their own and associate it with the Xbox platform, when it is absolutely, 100% not. The PC space is just as much Xbox's as it is PlayStation's, Ubisoft's, Activision's, and indie developers.

He also made the sweeping generalization that gamers hate women who know more about games than they do in response to criticism of another journalist's wildly off-topic review of Returnal. It's difficult to take someone with that kind of thought process seriously.

Also from Phil
"If we are shipping a first-party game it's coming to PC. If we are shipping a first-party game on PC it's coming to Steam and our own store"

Game Pass isn't on Steam either. Of course, there are rumors that this is going to happen.

And frankly, I think Xbox Game Pass on PlayStation would be a harbinger of the end times. I'm talking Biblical lion and lambs apocalyptic four horsemen level shit.

I mean it also comes to PC. I don't give a fuck if it is Xbox console exclusive :messenger_tears_of_joy: .Bad for playstation only gamers tho. I play on Playstation and PC for 2 decades now. Nothing changed for me
Same here, my issue is what does this mean for mods? I hate windows store with a passion. Locked down bad download, no tweaking garbage platform. I'd rather have steam/gog. Shit i would settle for origin/uplay/epic over MS store. At least we know on those platforms mods are allowed.
How can you do mods on a walled garden windows app that doesn't allow you to touch the file structure?
This is going to suck for tes6 more than anything.

I can't remember seeing so much unjustified hype for a game in a long time. It's basically still only a title at this point. No substantial info about anything. The game could be the biggest pile of shit ever, and you have already spent over three years hyping it.

Thank god. Hopefully that doesn't change.
Forza 7 was a nightmare having to download it 4 times at 70 some gb because the store f'd up. Now with East coast comcast caps... Steam and gog are consistant with downloads and very fast.

Starfield is the next generation major AAA game coming from Bethesda Maryland and it has been in development for 6 years. The hype is not unjustified. Both Skyrim and Fallout 4 are still in the top 50 most played games on Steam right now.

Next generation AAA game developed by Bethesda for 6 years doesn't guarantee anything. You still haven't seen (almost) anything from the game, it's all in your head.

The hype for this game feel so inorganic to me. I mean, I've done some searching but can't find a single second of gameplay. In fact, the only thing I've been able to find is a screen shot from what looks like an early alpha build. So I'm really confused as to why there is a discussion is about it.

If it is an exclusive, that's great for XBOX but not surprising to me since they own the studio. Someone help a fellow gamer out and fill in the missing gaps here, please.

So it's the dev time?

I honestly thought there was some leaked gameplay and had genuine fomo that it got erased from the net or something. But you're saying it's the dev time?

I mean..I know of the game but I don't think I'd care even if it was multiplatform.
