Unity is trash. Hopefully everyone can agree on that at least. This game is bizarre, the new gen version performs in various ways worse than the last gen versions.

It's weird, no one really gave much of a shit about backwards compatibility until this particular generation.
Sony did it well until PS4, to little fanfare. Xbox half arsed it until recently. Really has been taken to another level in the last year.
Don't know why that is, maybe it becomes super important to a set of fans, when one company does something better than the other.
But the entire point of these consoles are to allow everyone to play next gen games right?
Why aren't we hearing more about those.
Yes, but it does have a decent ssd, more powerful gpu, xva, 1440 support, vrr, full hardware support for all rdna 2 features, Dolby vision, Dolby atmos, storage expansion day one, quick resume etc. FPS boost (how many 120fps games there are on ps5?), great bc support (multiple generations), gamepass. You know, the whole package, in actually small box.Doesn't have the I/O of the ps5 anyway
Phil is that you?Yes, but it does have a decent ssd, more powerful gpu, xva, 1440 support, vrr, full hardware support for all rdna 2 features, Dolby vision, Dolby atmos, storage expansion day one, quick resume etc. FPS boost (how many 120fps games there are on ps5?), great bc support (multiple generations), gamepass. Oh and it plays biomutant better, much better on biomutant‘s release day.
Have you finished Phil? Uh beaten. Well it's developed by 20 people if I understood right.Watching CohhCarnage play the game and yeah the game seems all over then place. Weird gameplay, confusing, bullet sponge enemies, mismatched graphics (kind of like they have bought a load of random asset packs that dont belong together), very buggy, and overall seems pretty meh.
I'll def wait for reviews on this one.
Yeah, doesn't look very good, there have been 2 hours straight with poorly paced dialogue and almost no combat, it seems extremely long in the tooth. It's the sort of game that goes through slow obvious tutorials over and over. The story is also like you said, like a children's book written by one guy who just wrote his first video game.Kinda offtopic I guess, but I'm watching Lirik livestream this right now and the overall tone and atmosphere is WAYYYYY more kiddy than I expected.
The narration feels straight up like a kids game.
PR list you say? I move my Xbox series x between rooms, depending what I am playing, between 4K tv and 1440p monitor with 120hz support + vrr(rocking that FPS boost), I am gamepass subscriber from day one (at full price, never bothered with that conversions loops), obviously I am using quick resume daily, I use mix of internal and ssd cold storage ...point being, what you call a PR list, it is actually part of my daily gaming life and competition is simply missing these features. And yeah, being an older gamer I do appreciate games from previous generations and sometimes I like to reboot some older hits (that’s why I still keep my Dreamcast, ps2, GameCube etc.).Have you finished Phil? Uh beaten. The typical MS PR list.
Obviously faster GPU, caches scrubbers, Geometry Engine, Tempest Engine, means nothing right? One can simply say also we can have an hardware extremely close to the series X just spending 399 bucks on ps5, is it that worthy spend 100 more for some occasional better multiplat or to have more BC games at 120fps? It's easy change the perspective of the things if you look from a different point of views.

Name a company that has done more in the backward compatibility than MS. Sony before the PS4 allowed games to play older games. That's pretty much it. The Xbox series consoles not only play older games but enhance the games to have higher framerates, filtering, and resolution. The console takes games like Biomutant which has a X1 version and runs it at 4K and 60 fps which is NOT how the X1 runs the game. So it's not just backwards compatibility and it's not just for 'old' games. That's why some people care. Just like there are a group of people who will never acknowledge that it's a great feature for customers as long as it isn't on their preferred platform. It's weird, no one really gave much of a shit about backwards compatibility until this particular generation.

There is also tons of shit you see in budget games, like a lot of weak animations and a lot of weird transitions like music cutting out between cutscenes awkwardly and tons of other weird little things.
I wanna see how the open-world fares though, that might save it a bit.
I thought Yooka Laylee dialogue was annoying, this is even worse as you have to wait for the narrator lolJust baffling to me that they have a dialogue system where a character talks in mumble speak, and then have a narrator basically translate what the character says. Literally every sentence!
Takes forever to get through a conversation.
Whatever way you sell it, it's backward compatibility. It may boost framerate, 90% of people wouldn't notice the difference except for enthusiasts.Name a company that has done more in the backward compatibility than MS. E3 is next month but MS had always said they wanted to blur generational lines and they are keeping their word. The features they offer on the Xbox in no way prevents them from having Series only titles in the future but they are showing a ton of respect to customers who supported their products when they have had many stumbles and that goes a long way for customer loyalty. To phrase it as an either or misses the point.
Wasn’t Returnal 1080p as well or was that just console war bullshit?
Not even close to native 4k. Upscaled.Wasn’t Returnal 1080p as well or was that just console war bullshit?
I agree we're in a post-resolution world to some degree, but there's a diff between upscale and reconstruction... THQ saying it's 1080p upscaled to 4K is reminiscent of the whole Xbox One your 900p is upscaled to 1080p thing. Straight upscaling to the output res isn't the same as reconstruction techniques. The Biomutant 1080p upscaled 4k vs native 4k debate is something you gotta be careful with. My experience with NVIDIA DLSS technology which is similar to this situation here is that Native 4K is NOT the best at all any more.
If you play games like wolfenstein youngblood, or even CONTROL you'll see that the internal 1080p resolution out performs and looks a little better than the native image.
In terms of Returnal this game looks incredible and it looks better than a ton of games that's NATIVE 4K.
To cap it off the unreal engine 5 demo was 1440p and it was literally MOVIE CINEMATIC QUALITY IN-GAME REAL TIME.
The point is this before you look at numbers on a paper experience these things in practice because the TRUTH don't change but LIES always switch up evenutally.
I hear what you saying as well, that's why I made mention to playing it first to truly see the difference to know how things are being utilized.I agree we're in a post-resolution world to some degree, but there's a diff between upscale and reconstruction... Which one of you guys posted this?
any sensible person knows that. The Series S runs at 1440p/60 (not 30 as they initial stated). PS5 just needs the native version.Could have been DeGhost. I mean that's what the name reminds me of.
I don't believe what he's saying but I also don't believe the PS5 is incapable of running this title at a higher resolution.

Crazy how a Neo Member popped just as plenty of Sony warriors were banned and happens to have all the exact same talking points and obsession with comparison threads. Life really has the most amazing coincidences! It ran at 4k but it wasn't native 4k it used reconstruction.

it was upscaled from 1080p.
Before we talk metrics, it's really got to be stressed that Housemarque is pushing the new GPU hard. Really hard. The game's visual make-up is based on a density of effects that demands some level of compromise elsewhere in the pipeline. Sony advertises this title by saying it's running at a dynamic 4K - a catch-all term it has used for all manner of upscaling solutions of varying levels of quality. At its heart, Returnal operates at a relatively low internal resolution, then uses a couple of techniques to boost the quality of the output. This starts with temporal reconstruction to 1440p, followed by a checkerboarding pass to deliver a 2160p output.
The end result is a presentation that looks better than the native 1080p pixel counts that tend to emerge from untreated geometry, but this can't really pass as a full-blooded 4K presentation, dynamic or otherwise - especially on certain textures with high specularity, such as wet ground and water surfaces, where you can sometimes see an obvious moire pattern. Image quality in general can sometimes look a little fuzzy or grainy in motion too, owing to the TAA upscaling and checkerboarding.

Banned or not, but XSX version is much better than PS5.
Part of your daily gaming life is full RDNA2 proudness and repeat how much better is this game in BC mode on Xbox because can't run on 4k on ps5 for tech issue?PR list you say? I haven’t said that, but what is clearly visible these things mean nothing when it comes to biomutant (you know topic of this thread)....and you are talking about pr lists.
idk if you read the thread or are just intentionally coming in with dumb takes, but Series S runs at parity with Series X just at 1440p (lower resolution). It is uncapped at 60 fps, not 30 unlike what THQ tweeted. But i thought the Series S would have parity with the other systems just at low resolution
1 year isn’t exactly the same as 3 days. Just saying a lot of things happened on May 18th in this board.Your account is from 2020 and you appeared in several comparisons threads since.
So I wouldn't be pointing fingers.

One could say use BC games with evident performance issue on ps5 just to claim how xbox is better, it's hilarious and pathetic in the same way but eh.Sony fans losing their shit on Twitter over this is both hilarious and disgusting.
Turns out Biomutant does run at 1440p/60 on Series S

Also you should stop being mad about cross gen ports. They’ll all end up with the same results.
Graphics being shit is being nice. Fuck, seeing splinter cell on both it was night and day. This really resonates with me. I remember playing games like Halo, Morrowind, Fable, KOTOR 1+2, and Jade Empire on the original Xbox. I was having a great time until I came across an article that left me literally shaking. Apparently PS2 was outselling Xbox by a margin of 6 to 1. Suddenly, all those games just weren't fun any more. I was playing on the loser box! I immediately sold my Xbox and all its games to Gamestop, and went back to playing on my PS2. The graphics were shit by comparison, and I didn't find the exclusives as compelling. But goddammit it felt good to be a winner again.
Probably this guy lol
