Saints Row was already a "diverse" game, you could make your manly woman with blue hair if you wanted to, but this is "let's make characters that look like all the losers on Twitter with pronouns in bio". Oh, and let's make sure that all women act and behave like dudes, that's going to improve our games, it's what people want.

This can't be them just trying to appeal to the Twitter mob, it's the entire direction for the game that must have that must believe that shit.

Honestly, they're getting the exact opposite effect. Now every time a piece of media has a "diverse" protagonist like a black woman or a gay character, I asumme it's just woke propaganda. I didn't have any kind of problem with that in the past. Fuck it.

I think the biggest issue I have with this game in its current state is that its pretty clear you could get a version of this game running on an xbox 360 if you really wanted to.

I mean the engine is obviously the same as Saints Row 3 Remastered, which means this engine is still fundamentally a 360 gen engine just built upon, but just not in a way that masks its roots.

But aside from that I'm just so over Neon, so over that digital "emoji" helmet cliche, and completely over laser/plasma rifles and goofball/ "lol, random" weaponry in games. I just don't quite understand how this games unique identity is one in which makes it indiscernible from its contemporaries.

Also this obsession with neon is what, for me, ruined Crackdown, a game that originally had grit and some elements of a grounded reality as far as technology to contrast its more insane comic book super powers etc.

Hardly a fair comparison. One is an abominable turd of a game mocked by millions across the world, with terrible graphics and cliché characters with cringe voice acting.

Not to get too political, this Avatar is the epitome of progressivism. It goes deeper by targeting Gen Z with said characters as it show thing like "community" and social grouping.

Looks fun, but yeah, characters are pretty bad.

Saints Row always had some edgy characters, but there was always something endearing about them.

I'm not instilled with confidence in this game. And I'm a pretty YUUUGE fan, since the first game's demo disc in the official Xbox magazine way back when. Gotten every collector's edition too. 2 is still my absolute favorite, an excellent game all around. I did enjoy 3 a great deal but 4 started to really lose me, and I struggle to play Agents of Mayhem. This definitely looks like Volition is trying to survive in a world where social arbiters are even more strict than publishers and ratings boards in terms of censorship. My best friend already laments the absence of the dildo bat the moment I mentioned the reboot rumors.

But in all honesty, nothing has really put me off of the game yet. I don't like the characters and vibe they are going with here, but I still trust Volition to make a good game fundamentally. I actually love deserts, I live in a mountain desert region that gets plenty of snow and there are also plenty of beautiful forests around. I do fear that the character creator has been scaled back despite what they said about being their best yet. Its one of the few games I could make a pretty bodacious curvy thicc woman kicking ass. I loved playing co-op and seeing my friends creations. Always so different than mine. I guess for now I'll end up getting it, I used to prefer Saints Row over GTA, and I'm not too keen on Rockstar's efforts lately as they focus way too much on their Online elements.
