What time is it?
I am completely confused by your argument.

This one is gameplay btw. Credit to imapioneer from the other side.

Score one for rim lighting. This level of detail and character lighting during gameplay is a step up not only from the first game but other games as well.
How can you tell its gameplay?

This game is woke. Its trying to protect the incels’ feelings. Why are her eyebrows done. It should be looking like a unibrow. Plus I should be seeing a little bit of mustache.

I'm going for the ps4 version. Looks closer to the original plus I get double trophy when I transfer my ps4 platinum save to the ps5. The smart choice.

Lmao anyway ps5 performance mode for me.

I think they might not have enough headroom for a 40 fps mode at native 4k like ratchet did.

They could probably reduce the resolution to 1800p to get there but at that point the reduction in overall pixel clarity would take a hit.
In the end they have dynamic resolution. I guess they could just target 4k / 40fps and would most of the time stay "close enough" to it. Even if they need to go lower then 1800p in stressfull situations it is something I could live with :messenger_grinning:👍

This game will look better in screenshots.

30 FPS motion is difficult to look at. Performance mode is too soft.

You're wrong. 60fps looks much better than 30, other things being equal.

And it's not just a matter of adaptation, otherwise we'd still have 15fps games.
If the graphics settings are the same the looks are equal no matter the framerate.

Response time is different that has nothing to do with how the game looks.

Oh. Not exactly full proof. Some people count photo mode as gameplay.
Ok? Last I checked most photo modes just freezes the game state and give you more control of the camera so you can frame your shot how you want. There is nothing unbelievable in that screen judging by what we’ve seen so far.

Wait...so you do not include geometrical complexity in 'rendering quality' despite being a core bottle-neck and one of the things everyone and their mother is trying to push? That was one core aspect that made the UE5 demo look so good. It is one of the core aspects that make HFW on the PS5 look so good. And it is one of the core differences between the PS4 version of HFW and the PS5 version.

I am completely confused by your argument. Geometrical complexity is way more important than rendering resolution to increase visual quality once you hit 1440p or so.
You're confused because there is no argument.
Forbidden West is a gen ahead compared to Zero Dawn in water rendering technology, micro-geometry usage in vegetation and environmental details, a gen ahead in animations as well and there is no way for Zero Dawn on PC to look as good regardless of the settings.

My logic was based on the fact that the additions to the PC version would be something new they would add to the PS5. Right now the PS5 can only render FW @ 4k/30FPS. If we disregard the different biomes and locations (which are subjective anyway), then the PC will offer a better graphical experience with the same clarity of 4k but at 60FPS or higher. There is no denying that FW is an iteration above the previous game and not a generational leap like people assumed.
You can get better IMAGE QUALITY on pc for sure. 4k, dlss, 8k, whatever is possible. You can even argue Zero Dawn got higher image quality.
But until this comes to pc, the closes thing is Death Stranding on pc I guess

I'll take a pic during gameplay of her furry face for you on Friday.
Or sooner if Amazon ships early 🤞

That would be good.
And people should not be offended by me saying this.
On the contrary me thinking it could be photomode is a testament to how good the visuals are if it is gameplay.

I just think its not very accurate to be claiming these shots are "gameplay".
Most photomodes improve the visuals.
Cool. Doesn’t bother me, the same graphics engine and assets in the game is used to render the frozen frame. Now something like GT photo mode which render the final image over multiple frames then that’s debatable as it is taking a longer time to render out the frame. In either case those are the same assets used in the game in one capacity or another. It’s not a CG pre-render. To me even real-time cutscenes are part of the gameplay even though you don’t have control of the characters.

You know women have hair on their face right? Well except if they are 12 but let's not go there.

Just a reminder that you should be careful when wishing for realism. I bet Aloy doesn't use deodorant either

Yeah no offense for ratchet fans, but looking at some high quality footage and pics, H2 natural outdoors looking environment (your beach, forest, desert etc.) piss all over outdoors location in the insomniac game, far more details everywhere, richer textures, ground details, snow\sand interaction, better vistas etc. the outdoors natural enviroments in ratchet were far worse than the techy-scifi ones like the pirate cantine, the first area or the space city, i was kinda surprised the first time i reached the location where you eventually fly the dragon for example.

And seeing some footage from the inside of the cauldrons with all the machines at work i'm not even sure if ratchet has better indoors either (or neither, i always confuse when to use one or the other).

In my book guerrilla definitely surpassed insomniac on the graphic hierarchy between sony first studios, even more impressive if you consider that this is a filthy crossgen full fledged open world compared to a more stricted ps5 exclusive games.

Small example, you are never gonna find a rock formation as detailed as this one in ratchet
image-horizon-forbidden-west-44153-4519-0020.jpg

And this is a random ass rock formation in a huge open world game.

It's kinda pretty nuts.

I can't remember with HZD, but some will use better AA (I think DriveClub does?) in photomode, I don't think this game will, it looks clean especially in the 4K mode.
There's no HUD on that screenshot but it might've just been cropped or turned off.

The hair looks nice in game, I'll be taking a lot of screenshots when I play.

Ratchet also used ray tracing in some very impressive ways, and it's a different kind of game and a different style of graphics.

I agree, you pointed out some of the weaker looking levels of Ratchet, but we will see. I don't know if HFW can pass as an animated movie, but again ... different style of presentation. Thankfully you don't "have to pick". I'll make sure to get my digital deluxe pre order loaded up very soon. :messenger_beaming:
