Gran Turismo 7’s microtransactions are live, and GT Sports’ $5 cars now cost $40

Damn, I remember when Forza 5 was going to something similar but but the backlash was bad so they backed away from it. Sony launched it after the reviews and on launch day. Kind of fucked up and I've been telling this to people when they ask me game pass with microtransactions or $70 games with none. I always reply with who says they won't do microtransactions in a $70 game.

The question is, how many credits can you earn while playing the game, let's say per hour? and is it fun to grind?
The real question is "The game has a fair progression rate?"

I mean, if you need to pay them for play a game (having fun with it) that you already payed the game is really a shitty game. To me it makes looks like playstation is dying. Not in money, there is a lot of idiots who will pay $70 for a game and a lot more into microtransactions, but as a quality game Publisher.

It is really sad see that happens.

For this shit, is better pay to play iRacing.

Gran Turismo has option to buy credits since GT6, its nothing new. Thers no content locked behind MTX.

If whales want to throw money to purchase credits instead of grind for them, let them. We will be getting years of content support for free thanks to them.

Doesn't change the fact that you're still paying extra money to unlock features.
That option have been sealed long time, the moment we went ham with collector edition.
This is the new age of mtx. Coming from mobile gaming, you guys will see bad shits, much worse than loot boxes. Forza, halo, call of duty, GT7 have yet to see $50-$100 packages. once you guys got used to these 20$, they will slowly increase the price to that range.

We are now paying $70 for games, and 10$ upgrade fees. Plus these collection edition. These companies wont stop, until they milk us of money.

Plenty. A clean entry level 2 lap race gives you between 7.5 and 15k if you drive clean. Licenses give you plenty of credits. The coffee mode offers you gifts which you can get either cars, parts or money, lottery style. No need to pay to unlock, having a blast.

Never once felt the need to purchase credits in gt games. In 7 I'm early in and am earning a good bit of coin just doing the races so far. Have like 10 cats and only bought my first and not including the pre order one
It starts at 10, it's all downhill from there

That's got to be a mistake in pricing? A 3M credit car for $40? It would take barely any playing time to get that 3M. Literally no one would do that unless they don't like games?
I've seen races were you get less than 30k$ when you win. That's 100 races to get one single of those cars.
That's not what I'd call "barely any playing time"

Just like every GT before it there are big money races that award the most for relatively little time. Won't take long before someone finds it here. Forgot which race it was in Sport but with the daily bonus it was like less than 10 minutes of racing for 100s of thousands. I remember it being the LA Sarthe track.

Monitizing a $70 game? Normally I wouldn't care, but as Ubisoft has proven, this makes the old-fashioned grind way more tedious. They decimate the in-game economy so much that your character is still poor as hell at the end of the game. You will never be able to afford the best gear at the end of the game without spending real money.

That's the real travesty. They have an incentive to make you spend money.

Someone should add all the coat of the Microtransactions up and see what kind of car we could buy with that money or what kind of down-payment we could have for one 🤣

Folk in this thread make it sound as if you can't earn credits in-game or purchase an expensive car unless you pay up for these microtransactions 🤷‍♂️
It's just war lol. Check some of the user profiles and there will sit a strong history of hating everything PS.

While there is actual important shit going on in the world today some of these lads have an important war of their own going on.

Sony and Polyphony Digital have raised the prices on two cars by 700%, including the Aston Martin Vulcan '16 and the McClaren P1 GTR '16.
Other cars have seen their prices raise by over 1200%. The Audi R18 TDI '11 and Porsche 919 Hybrid '16 both cost $40 in GT7, which is 1233% more expensive than they were in GT Sport.

But there is only one problem that marketing strategy doesn't solve for a live service game or Gaas game, that is player retention. This system will do wonders for boosting player numbers in the long run so Sony can proudly announce those to say the game is more than successful for both their shareholders and FIA.

I don't think that offering players the option to buy in-game credits will benefit player numbers in the short or long term.

GT games are all about the grind to earn credits to buy those endgame cars. Once you start offering real money for in-game credits, you're letting players pay you to not play the game. Live service and GaaS games are all about player engagement to retain players and keep them spending. The problem with selling in-game currency is that players can just buy that, then buy all the in-game rewards they want and then they'll quickly get bored and move on.

It's totally the opposite of what PD should be doing.

Here’s another one GT7 has 400 cars or so, say Forza 8 comes with 700.

$5.99 per car DLC, $1,797 dollars to pull equal in cars 😂

That is a nice gaming pc+ps5+xss price. Who ever spends that much money on 1 game, should be locked in a dungeon.

What time is it?

Early on the progression rate seems okay. I'm probably at around 4 hours in.

I've purchased:

-911 GT3 (997) '09 - 142,400
-Fairlady Z (Z34) '08 - 39,100
-Mini-Cooper 'S" '65 Upgrades:
-Sports Computer - 1,600
-Sports Air Filter - 700
-Sports Muffler - 1,500
-Sports Brake Pads - 400
-Street Suspension - 2,500
-Weight Reduction: Stage 1 - 3,500
-Sports: Medium - 2,800
-Bore Up - 5,000
-High Lift Cam Shaft - 5,000
-High Compression Pistons -
-GTO Twin Turbo Upgrades
-Sports Computer: 1,600
Car Wash - 50

Total Credits On Hand: 1,791,350
Pre Order Bonus: 100,000
Digital Deluxe Bonus: 1,500,000

Seeing the "top up credits" option every time I buy a car is gross. Understandable for a F2P game like Fortnite, but not for a $70 release.

I honestly didn't notice this on either car I purchased.

Or you could just play Forza on Gamepass for free and not have any of this Sony/Jim Ryan bullshit

They’re not even the same kind of “games” lol, one is an actual simulator.

Back to the topic,
this is downright disgusting and unfortunately, this is where the industry is heading.
It would be a thousands times worse without options, though.

If Sony/Poly were to cave and adjust prices what is the sweet spot?

You want to encourage players to grind all the same, but what about impulse buyers, rich cucks that essentially become the gateway for online competitiveness, or those who simply don’t want to?

There’s almost no desirable ending for all players once MTX is introduced.
That’s why I stick with the campaign and earn in-game credits.

Well it’s scandalous actually because they LOCK cars behind bundles and a paywall. You can also PURCHASE roulette spins or whatever they are called ITS SHOCKING.

At least in GT nothing is LOCKED behind MTX

How many cars are locked like this anyway? Win 100 races someone said earlier to earn enough credits to buy the $40 car. Are all the cars priced this way or only like a dozen of the most rare/expensive ones? Some more context can help with all the outrage. I dont have a problem with like the 10% top tier rarest cars going for this amount. But if all cars prices avg around the same then that is straight bull.

There are classic and rare cars worth many millions of credits. PD have tried to match the credit cost with the real life cost in most cases.

Nothing is "locked away". As with all GT games there are cars with absurd price tags to own.

Twitch/youtube plays a huge role in behaviors like these. When you see your favorite YouTuber/streamer buying these cars with money, you will want to do the same.
Once these people get involved, you wont grind that much.

I am already sick of fifa streamers/youtubers who buy alot of points, and pull 99* cards. This makes my grind worthless.
