If I can’t download PS1/PS2 game, I dont care about this.
Demo’s, streaming games just isnt something important to me.

Ill carry on PS+ but really wanted PS1/PS2 library of games to be downloaded like Nintendo does with NES/Snes/N64 games with there subscription.

Any1 expecting Sony to do a gamepass is dumb. Sony is making a killing selling their 1st party games, they dont need to copy Xbox

But subscriptions are ruining the industry...

And people don't buy consoles to play old games...

At least that's what I've heard from the PlayStation community for the last two years :pie_thinking:

Because the main reason why people upgrade is to play NEW games. Xbox fans believed BC was a major selling point for the vast majority of gamers years ago when it wasn't.

I’m not a fan of subscriptions in general, but if they want that middle tier to take off then they need to have newer games on it, not just a shift of the PS Now library into that tier minus the legacy games.

The information is all wrong... the codename spartacus was from the beginning a good indication of what the service is all about - the gathering of things in one place.

People seriously don't understand how great streaming can be until you see a game listed that you wanted to try out and you can begin playing it instantly without having to download it.
I’ve tried the Xbox cloud and PS Now streaming services and they were both poor experiences. It’s a shame because my iPad now has dualsense support. Maybe the experience will be better via the TV, but I doubt it for the type of games I like to play. I do recall trying PS2 games via PS Now on the TV and it was okay, I suppose.

But tbh, I have limited gaming time as it is, so I don’t want a second best experience.

That ^

Also I think the main goal of Spartacus is to have a service to house some 1st party and mostly 3rd party games that will also come to game pass. For example, they can now release MLB the Show 22 in Spartacus to offer playstation gamers the same deal that Xbox gamers are getting with that game and others in game pass.

I'm already fantasizing about Sony getting Suikoden 1-5 on the service. I'm getting a bit delusional and the announcement will definitely be disappointing because of that.

Yeah Please dont do that to me. I think its gonna just be PSNow and PS+ Put together. Nothing new, just a repackaging.

Id be really happy with the PS1 & PS2 library of games that the PS3 store got. And being able to download and play them, Ill sub for that. Not to stream them.

I expect nothing more than just play PS+ tier 1 being the current PS+, PS+ tier 2 being PS+ and PS Now, PS+ tier 3 being PS+ and PS Now and some BC games.

Not interested, at least for now. Anyone knows if it means Sony will sell PS1/PS2 titles as stand alone games? Or they will be available only on Spartacus, even if you can download it?

Let me download and stream PS1,2,3 and 4 games , plus do a deal with publishers to get all AAA on the service from day one (with no risk of them ever leaving the service) and I'll pay up to £70pm for it. In fact, Sony can bend me over and charge me whatever they want to play the classics. Price isn't a problem.

Same with Microsoft. If GP had AAA games from day one, plus all OGXB and 360 games to download and stream, then they can charge me a three figure sum for all I care. I'll pay it!

Things it SHOULD have.

PS1, PS2, and PS3 native emulation (PS3 for PS5 only)
PSP and PS Vita native emulation
PS1 and PS2 online play
Trophies for PS classic titles
Stream all your games, including PS4 & PS5 titles. If they want to be competitive in the streaming service, then they should give people the option to purchase PS4 and PS5 games and stream on any device
Crunchyroll and Sony movie streaming.

If PS1-PS3 titles are limited to streaming with no added features, then it's a waste.

It is a service to house all things Sony.
Sony is not only playstation.

Thought about it a bit: would it be better for Sony to offer a-la carte options for stacking various tiers together?

For example, say the highest tier is Tier 3 and offers everything, but you only want BC streaming for PS1/2/3/PSP/Vita games. With the usual method you'd have to also sub for other things you might not want, but couldn't they just offer that streaming option as its own tier at a lower price? Especially if you literally just want the BC streaming, and not PS4/5 streaming or online play (for whatever reason)?

I think that could give subscribers more flexibility in their options, and overall get more subscribers that way. Comparatively, one of the weaknesses for GamePass (especially in mobile) is that xCloud is tied to GamePass Ultimate, meaning by default you have to pay a more expensive price just to get the feature specific for your use-case, and you end up paying for stuff you otherwise don't want or just can't use.

Which is kind of relic of the television model when you think about it; I know Microsoft have said they will offer xCloud on its own at a future date, but it would be great if Sony could leapfrog in that respect and just have things like online play, PS4/5 streaming, BC (pre-PS4) streaming, etc. as their own options that can be stacked a-la carte style. As for Day 1 1P games, I think they could do it for non-blockbuster 1P titles that maybe aren't a good fit for retail. Stuff like Destruction All-Stars or a new Parappa, for example (please make a new Parappa...actually, a new UmJammer would be better 😁). I can't see them doing Day 1 for games like Spiderman, Wolverine, TLOU etc. unless they treat them like rent-to-own VODs with monthly payment installments.

Otherwise such a service could end up unsustainable for them long-term.

That was my point. Sony used to lead and not follow. If you are saying Sony is not doing this to answer Game Pass you are being willfully ignorant to the situation.

That being said, I'm happy. Unless they start reducing the games they release on PS+ it looks like I can continue on with my regular PS+ Sub and ignore all of
How is merging existent services an answer to GP? There’s nothing new here, there’s no answer here. Xbox is no threat to PlayStation.

Sony is not only playstation.
No, Spartacus is only the merge of PS Plus and PS Now with some extra game related content. It's supposed to include game/PS content only.

Not interested, at least for now. Anyone knows if it means Sony will sell PS1/PS2 titles as stand alone games? Or they will be available only on Spartacus, even if you can download it?
Sony already sells PS2 games as standalone games for PS4 and PS5. Some of them are the PS2 games available on PS Now/Spartacus, meaning they can be played via cloud gaming or downloaded and played locally on PS4 and PS5.

I highly doubt they would remove them from the PSN store as standalone purchases. In any case, the opposite: if they add more PS2 games to PS Now they'll add them to the store too. Companies want to increase their revenue and profit, not to decrease it.

PS1 games were sold digitally as standalone games for PS3, PSP and Vita. Since they already have PS3 games running via cloud gaming, their faster and cheaper way would be to include some of these PS1 games for PS3 in the list of PS3 games supported for PS Now. That would cut the cost of making an emulator, testing all the games and having to do extra paperwork regarding licensing and rights related to selling a game for a new platform. They didn't make a PS1 emulator for PS4 to include these games, which I think means they was that standalone PS1 digital games didn't generate enough sales on PS3/PSP/Vita so they avoided to repeat in PS4, so I don't think we'll see PS1 games running emulated natively on PS5 either.

Won't happen because Sony has decided against having their own TV/Movie streaming service and is instead licensing their stuff to Disney. Starting this year Sony's movies and TV shows will stream on Disney+ and Hulu.

Earlier this month, Sony and Netflix announced a deal giving the streaming giant first crack at streaming Sony’s theatrical releases, for around 18-month windows. Under Wednesday’s deal, Disney would get the streaming rights to new releases after Netflix’s exclusive window ends.
After 18 months on Netflix...😂

If you've already got both then probably the only significant change will be a greater selection of games in the PS Now part (apparently this is Tier 2) including PS5 games and maybe some more legacy stuff.

Tier 3 will apparently cost more and add some stuff that I doubt anybody was asking for.

This clearly isn't a Game Pass competitor. Streaming BC games ala Nintendo and timed demoes ala EA Play locked behind a subscriptio service is a laughable proposition to me.

This really shouldn't be hyped up as a gamepass competitor, folks are going to be disappointed falling for that based on the rumored info.🤷‍♂️

I would actually be more disappointed if it's anything like Gamepass.
I don't want a rental service

I think it has been told a thousand times, but if the service doesn't have Sony AAAA games day one, is not equivalent to Gamepass. Is a shit like PsNow, plus a shit like PS+. I don't know if that is half shit or a double shit.

I'm a happy PS5 owner, but that Spartacus thing sounds like the same forgetable service from always but with a new fancy marketing campaign.

It will be interesting to see what Sony is planning. As long as tier 1 is exactly like PS+ is now I'm good. I refuse to pay more for a service that doesn't offer enough value. I hope it's handled better than the Crunchyroll/Funimation merger.

This whole Spartacus thing sounds lame as fuck. Honestly. Just reshuffling of what is already available.

Highest tier gets you demos and game streaming? Lol. If those are the perks for the high tier Im honestly afraid of what the lower tiers look like.

In the recent years they are making more revenue and profit than ever, their exclusives are selling more and earning more awards than ever. They also have more active players and their game subscriptions have more subscribers than ever. They never have been that successful. And well, they have many other records, also including sold consoles (now constrained due to lack of chips).

In fact, many of these records aren't only for them but also for any console platform holder in gaming history. So what they have been doing with their brand and platform I'd call it smart instead of degenerate.

I disagree, there's a reason why they're making revenue: they are sacrificing all their long-time positions and assets as a brand, hardware platform and catalogue to rush towards something that isn't there yet (hardware agnostic streaming platforms), in order to juice short-term software profits by releasing their games on either PS4 or PC, and soon their streaming service.

The problem is that they're at least 5 years too early, maybe more, all other game streaming platforms have failed for diverse reasons, contextuals being one, now unless Sony can somehow compete with future Steam, Epic or whatever other services, maybe being early can secure them a spot in the market, although publishing and catalogue (more than service) will be all that matters.

The problem is that they're sacrificing their strongest and only hardware system asset to rush into become publishers with a very weak catalogue that hasn't grown to be diversified, compared to say, Microsoft or Nintendo. So we'll see, I'll surely bite if I can play PS5 games, and only them, on their new service, but if others have either failed or not rushed yet, there are good reasons...
