My best man’s wife tried to challenge me to battle mode on the SNES version like 15 years ago. I warned her I played it pretty much every day on an emulator in high school instead of learning C++…after going 30-0 against her she gave up

To her credit though - 30 losses is a lot to take and I'm impressed that she held her ground for so long. Most normies would have rage quit after 5 in a row.

She’s just stubborn and prideful…but I really did master that game on a keyboard instead of doing school work. We passed around the CD I burned with the emulator on it and had network play tournaments, also DOOM. Once the teacher was lecturing with the lights turned down and we were all playing DOOM against each other, at one point she looked over and saw the red glow on this kid’s face and asks “Hunter why is your screen all red?”

Me: “because he SUCKS!”

Uproarious laughter….my finest hour. Never went to Prom

Do you remember anything specific about what she was doing that was bad, or what you were doing that she wasn't? What particular strategy do you think you were using that gave you the edge? Map knowledge? Item selection? Maneuvering?

That’s like asking Hattori Hanzo how he makes his swords man…I just do it baby, I don’t know the mechanics behind my Mario Kart Genius™

Received an email from Samsung to follow them on Instagram. Never had a company try to get me to follow them on Instagram.
Why do you let Samsung send you emails?
Oh that is easy, Facebook is playing to brands, they even payed to some media to make fake news about kids doing dangerous ticktoks challenges.

I searched gmail and I think it's actually the first marketing email from them. I assumed it was because of the Twitter purchase.

What's the story behind that? I know he's a tall dude but did it have something to do with his back?
And I'm the virgin

Anyone know if the PSX2 emulators have improved? Last time I tried they just stuttered. Talking a decade at least though, actually more like 17 years. Tekken 4 was the start of the end for me.
Outside of minor tweaks being worked on for games just fine
97.92% playable

inb4 use your actual PS2 disks or self created back ups, no piracy kk mods no likey

Tabloid newspapers have been doing that for decades by themselves as easy outrage filler articles without getting paid.

20 years ago the hot new stupid thing "All the kids" were doing was daisy chaining. Some shit the press just made up that had no supporting evidence or internet footprint. They got away with stuff like that because print press buyers didn't use the internet like they do now.

It was praised by critics, but panned by consumers.

Many people I've spoke to rate it as one of the worst titles in the entire series. And that's behind Ac!d, which was fucking awful.
The same game which won multiple times on NeoGAF's game of the year is bad?

News to me.

I fucking love it, even if it is just cutscenes.

Nope, the rot had already started to set in, Geoff Gurstmann, Gamergate... and here we are.
But Gamergate didn't set in until like 2014. I also don't see what Jeff Gerstmann has to do with the downfall of video game reviews. Giant Bomb was pivotal in driving personality based "content" and that was 14 years ago.

Your history and timeline are a little off.

Gian Bomb only existed because Geoff refused to give kane and Lynch a better score and was fired.

Zoe Quins game was given a good score in 2013 and was outed in 2014, it was the hard proof needed that reviewers were corrupt.

Metal Gear IV, every outlet wanted a chunk of that Sony/Konami adspend.

Hence why I said "didn't set in until 2014"

I'm aware of the situation surrounding Gamespot and Jeff's firing, but that's mostly from busybody upper management shitting themselves at the thought of pissing off ad partners. It was a good thing too, I don't think GB ever bent over for advertisers or to placate financial interests.

Personally, MGS4 is worth the 94 rating. Transparency and ethics are likely something we'll never have with mainstream publications, they rely too much on that revenue stream from advertising. That direct conflict of interest is what lead to the rise of more YouTuber style personality content. A move for the best I think.

I wasn't kicking around GAF in 2008, so I wasn't aware it won multiple GOTY awards. I did, however, just read through the topic on Gaming side for DigitalFoundry's playthrough of MGS IV at 4K60 and, yeah, it's getting a lot of love. So my statements may indeed be outdated. I stand by what I say, though, it deserves more love. The microwave scene and that fight between Snake and Ocelot - they're just chef's kiss. Kojima was at his best with IV. Phantom Pain was amazing, but it's not a patch on IV.
