So the fidelity mode on insomniac games is above 60fps 120hz VRR mode, I knew it was smoother than 40 incredible stuff.

All first party needs this magic .

HFW looking awkward.

It's meant I can go back to 120hz on Dirt 5 as it was unstable before, it's a lot better now.
either the FPS counter is broke (it works in Spiderman, Ratchet and Miles), or there's something wrong with your PS5.

It doesn't deviate from 119 at any point during races, dips while changing menus, but that's it.

What track are you noticing "unstable" framerates. Id like to check it out.

Are you hooking your PS5 directly into the TV with DTS output? Do you know it's passing through ARC as 2.0 PCM to your sound bar/receiver? If you don't have eARC you should plug directly into your sound system and set the PS5 settings to Home Theater, LPCM 5.1/7.1. If you're using TV speakers/headphones send LPCM 2.0 directly to the TV.

So what games are benefitting the most from this? Insomniac games?
Some/most of these:
  • Astro’s Playroom
  • Call of Duty: Vanguard
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • Deathloop
  • Destiny 2
  • Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
  • DIRT 5
  • Godfall
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Resident Evil Village
  • Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
  • Tribes of Midgard
Insomniac games and Deathloop seem the biggest of them so far(?).

So for a game like Astros playroom, didn't it have a locked framerate? So is there even any benefit?

Yeah it was solid before so I am not sure if it's been unlocked now, or is awaiting a patch.
I don't remember seeing an update on my PS5 for it so I'm not too sure.
Edit: it says those games are getting updated in the coming weeks, so its probably just Insomniac and Deathloop right now.

Currently> PS5 direct to TV > EArc to Receiver (Dolby Atmos) setup. I believe this is the best setup. I also switched it to DTS on PS5

If you can't see VRR in the options yet, go to SYSTEM FEATURE UPDATES (not firmware update), it will trigger the update. If you get an error, you might need to reinstall the firmware using safe mode (hold power until 2nd beep).

I would just make sure your TV is outputting 5.1 PCM and not stereo since it looks like some type of conversion is happening.

You can get one of these if your TV doesn't support LPCM passthrough and care enough to bypass the issue.
