It's the thing you hoped not. What exactly are some people upset about?
They think of themselves as activists fighting the good war. They know that this is going to put pressure on Jimbo, so they went directly to the guy who knows what his audience wants. I understand the logic. What would you get going to HR? The work for him, they couldn't fire him or anything.Yep! Whats alarming to me however is that this email came out today? And also ‘leaked’ to jason a known hit piece writer all in the same day… like i have so many questions for the person who leaked said email.
For starters what in your mind made you think leaking an internal email was the right choice thats not leaning toward either side of the fence to a hit piece writer without first going thru the proper channels such as HR or other means if you truely felt it was in poor taste… seems very sus tbh. Normally things get leaked to a media outlet after all other options have or are close to be exhausted.
Highly likely that the neutral stance is the reason. They want every company to write on social media whatever the message is. It's becoming the norm. In many tech companies there's a few activists that make a ton of noise. It's highly likely the demanded the company to write about it on social media. Companies are having more and more troubles dealing with those activists, it's a pretty common thing. I don't know exactly what is going on at PlayStation, but I'm sure we'll find out soon. What exactly are some people upset about? Is it specifically the letter's neutral stance on abortion (I hope not) or the fact that he tact on levity to an email that discusses such a sensitive and divisive subject by discussing his pets and their birthdays?
Would be nice to have additional context because on surface level this all seems weird. For example, were there workplace conflicts between Sony employees stemming from recent Supreme Court abortion news or did Jim blast this email out of the blue?
Eh, sperm could be claimed as living as well but with the repercussions we all know that’d never happen.
I don't know how you are able to tell what Chinese people think when they live under such an oppressively government that saw abortion as a way to control the population growth.
Ok man, good for you, take the win, I'll not go look for counter-points if you are saying you have the numbers I'll take your word for it.And what science did you use to make the claim that most people don't support abortion? Are you the Chinese mind reader who calculated that percentage somehow when you made the bold claim that most people don't support abortion.
I used the fact that most people live in countries where it's legal.. and things like.. polls of major population areas.
You used?
That's just it. It IS divisive and IS being debated. There is not some widespread general consensus that abortion is an open and shut case. It is not above anything. There are people who believe it is wrong to end a human life prematurely and those who believe no matter what a woman should be able to choose. For whatever their reasons are. There are Americans who are fine with the Supreme Court "legislating from the bench" and those who feel it is a violation of their Constitutional authority. Ryan is more or less telling people to chill out and conduct yourselves professionally. Unfortunately the way he did it was odd.I think the argument is that some things aren't up for debate. Like saying you should respect differences of opinion on slavery, Russia / Ukraine or interracial marriage.
First time the Supreme Court has lessened peoples rights instead of expand it. The Handmaid Tale, turning women into forced incubators.
I think its "civil," but I can understand why people are not thrilled about his ststatements. To comment on an issue this divisive with stories of his pets just kind of comes across as totally callous and moronic.
Honestly...I think Jim Ryan shouldn't really talk much. Has there ever been an interview without some weird quote from him? He's a great business guy but my god he's terrible at PR
72% of the country are pro choice. Part of the extreme statements and anger are the result of a system that is breaking and no longer functioning as a democracy. Congress is fucked and what's happening is not a debate, but a power grab from a religious minority of the country. That's just it. It IS divisive and IS being debated. It's not about being wrong or right. It's about failing to read the room. He's simply out of touch with how things work nowadays. How is it possible he wrote all that and it didn't occur to him "yeah this won't go down well"?What is wrong with what he says, specifically?
I'm Pro-Choice as well but clearly the debate rages on. I'm not so sure about "72%" being Pro-Choice because in my own personal experience the number of people I've met on the topic are pretty close to 50/50 on the issue. Fact remains, it is being debated and people have their reasons. The biggest argument I see right now is that the Supreme Court overstepped its authority. Which, if it did, means it must either be reverted, Roe v Wade codified into law prior, or an amendment made to the Constitution that gives the court the authority to do what it did. Regardless of how you personally feel about it, there are enough people across the country to make this an issue. It also doesn't matter how you feel, when you're at work you are expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner.72% of the country are pro choice. When exactly does abortion become murder? A fertilized egg is a baby? What's wrong with an abortion of a mass of cells that have no heart, hands, feet? What if it has them, but has no brain?I don't know how you are able to tell what Chinese people think when they live under such an oppressively government that saw abortion as a way to control the population growth.
Abortion when the sex was consensual and for non-medical reasons just seems like a vile way to deal with the "problem" regardless if it's technically murder or not. Maybe I'm too old fashioned, doesn't make sense to me to be surprised you are pregnant after you had sex.
They are though. At one point slavery wasn't up for debate. Who decides?I think the argument is that some things aren't up for debate. Like saying you should respect differences of opinion on slavery, Russia / Ukraine or interracial marriage.

I don't think country having majority on its side is particularly compelling argument from ethics/morality point of view. I am sure segregation and eye for an eye policies used to be majority positions too.72% of the country are pro choice. Just let me state for the record that I hate Resetera with every fibre of my being.
Despicable, fascistic morons.
He can't win. If he doesn't say anything, people will chastise. If he speaks on anything people will chastise him...Honestly...I think Jim Ryan shouldn't really talk much. Has there ever been an interview without some weird quote from him? He's a great business guy but my god he's terrible at PR
SILENCE IS VIOLENCE!!!!!He can't win. If he doesn't say anything, people will chastise. If he speaks on anything people will chastise him...

Please without dwelling on the topic of his email, and discussing Jim Ryan performance as the SIE CEO and where he is taking PlayStation as a brand. Do you think he deserves to get sacked and get replaced with a younger more inline with the times CEO?
Sacked in the morning ?
He just really needs to look over his own work first or ask someone to be his editor before publishing anything. You can't save him from what he says in the moment but something like this could have been avoided if he would have just asked someone to look it over.He can't win. If he doesn't say anything, people will chastise. If he speaks on anything people will chastise him...
But PR is a major part of his job, he's the face of Playstation. If he's so bad at PR he can't talk, maybe it's time to replace him.
If by 'sacked' you mean that maybe i should run my nutsack across his craggy mug while I tickle his undercarriage?
Maybe.
Is that why? is he not entitled to his opinion who cares lol

Exactly. He didn’t say anything wrong imo, but he should know his audience by this point and that this would blow up with the danger hair mob. C’mon now, Jim.It's not about being wrong or right. It's about failing to read the room. He's simply out of touch with how things work nowadays. How is it possible he wrote all that and it didn't occur to him "yeah this won't go down well"?
Have you read the email? I dont think is public, right?
For me It sounds like a very usual CEO email for employees. I have seen tons of CEO emails that include statements like this, and then more personal stuff like: "oh, btw going to be on SF next week, lets organize something".
Of course, if someone is as dumb as that Schererir boy you can omit context and make it sound bad.
If by 'sacked' you mean that maybe i should run my nutsack across his craggy mug while I tickle his undercarriage?
Maybe.
Ok well he is entield to that to as the boss if they don't like it they can find another place to workHe hasn't rendered an opinion on anything. He has, essentially, told his employees to "shut the fuck up about this at work."
Power struggle for Sony at this stage is bad for them.People already don't know who Jim Ryan is.
Internally they could use it as an opportunity to replace him, you never know, he is not the face of PlayStation and he doesn't try to be.
The way Shawn Layden left suggests there is some power struggle within Sony.
Personally I don't think most common arguments in favor of abortions are compelling. Womans body, womens choice is not good because after fertilization its no longer your body you are aborting. Mass of cells is not good either because neither you or me are nothing but bigger masses of cells. That mass of cells would have become "complete" human if not aborted, therefore supporting fact that fertilized egg is when life begins. In my opinion most compelling argument in favor of abortion, is the fact that most childs probably don't want to be unwanted. But its slippery slope as well. Some even say that 3 year olds should be aborted since they have no memory of being under 3, and they say nobody wants to be unwanted kid, if parent has remorse about having kid. When exactly does abortion become murder? A fertilized egg is a baby? What's wrong with an abortion of a mass of cells that have no heart, hands, feet? What if it has them, but has no brain?
Why banning ALL abortions instead of finding a reasonable time? Cause the problem is some people wanting to ban all kind of abortions because baby Jesus and children are angels, even though once they're born the same people don't give a shit about their shitty life conditions.
