The Last of Us Part I - PS5 - Coming September 2 (PC version in development)

Pretty darn good time to be a PC Gamer. Seems like from now on, we can look forward to all the new games coming out every year, and all the PlayStation exclusives from a year or two before. Sweet.

This is what happens when we stop comparing PS3 pre-rendered 30fps videos with PS5 in-game cutscenes at 60fps and go straight to the 30fps gameplay from the PS3 vs now on PS5.

It's night and day.

Yeah, that's true. But the combat should pretty much be done based on the last game. All you really need is to just make some new levels. You can add in some rope climbing or verticality, or larger areas and take a few liberties with the "enhanced exploration."

That's what I'm expecting anyway, but who knows.
agreed. TLOU1 made to look and work as enhanced Part 2 roughly speaking

They already making Joel fit more with Part II from the get go giving him way less spotlight in the cover.
I think there was some controversy at the time of release and they didn't want Ellie to be larger on the cover since she's a girl. They're probably closer to what they originally intended on that honestly.

That's what makes it amazing.

I disagree. I hated everyone in it and didn't give a shit about the story until I played the DLC, which I actually did enjoy from a story perspective. And 2 was even better in that regard.

What kept me playing part 1 was the gameplay, atmosphere and tension. On grounded you have to pay attention to your surroundings, search thoroughly, be careful, be precise, be observant (since you can't listen mode the game into submission), and make good decisions with your pathetically small inventory. One wrong move will most likely result in instant failure and it's extremely satisfying to play well.

If you're playing games for story alone then you're indulging the wrong hobby.

If you expected more you have very unrealistic expectations. TLoU2 is only 2 years old and was absolutely state of the art at the time. Also this game isn't running at 60fps on PS4, that's for sure.

When ND say they built it ground up on PS5 sure I'd expect a generational leap, not something that looks like TLOU 2 running on PS4 at double the framerate. I'm not saying that's a bad thing heck it's still a gorgeous game but l expected much more for the price they are flogging it at.

You can reduce any and all games to 1-2 repeating actions that make it sound terrible. If you don't like the gameplay loop that's fine, but that's disingenuous.

There's barely any gameplay in The Last of Us. The whole game is on rails. It's a roller coaster ride (a very good one). The most offending part of the game is the sniper section. You're not playing the game. The game is playing you (I still love it for what it is).

This guy explains it well:

You expect my ass to buy this a third time, at full price, and you have cover art like that? With a little full body cut out of Joel on the side like he's a bonus character in a console specific Soul Calibur game?

THE GAMEPLAY AND GRAPHICS YOU LOVED
NOW WITH A STORY THAT ISN'T RIPE ASS!
RE-RE-RELEASED ON PS5
REEEEEE ON PS5

I also enjoy the pride Druckman seems to be taking on his bold story direction. By immediately releasing a "prequel," to TLOU2. The other guy who said a director's cut of Part II is on it's way is probably right on the money. Naughty Dog is just gonna release different versions of I and II until a meteor hits the earth, or Druckman's money laundering scheme is complete.

Is this the only game to be remastered twice in under ten years? All I can think of is Skyrim and the second remaster was for the ten year anniversary.

Anyway good for people who enjoyed it the previous times!

Awesome game that already looked and played awesome on PS4. Personally, I have cero interest in this version, considering all the story was thrown in the garbage for part 2.

70$? Yeah no. Buying discounted then. I would be busy with current backlog + PS+ Extra anyway. You are already building the game with Part 2 technology and it is a "faithful" remake so not much in term of innovation as the foundation is there. This is MY look at it and how I value it.

So, exactly the same full price game, just with graphics upgraded to more or less the same as the second game.

Fuck off Sony, you rapacious bastards.

This is simply inaccurate. You need to play more games if you think the whole game is on rails.

Returnal coming September to PC by same leaker.

Yeah I'm really wondering what Sony's strategy for PC is and if there are going to be longer-term consequences (positive and negative) with the route they seem to be going. For example, if there's a rampant increase of the single-player games going to PC in shorter intervals and their ports are essentially guaranteed, and most likely live-service games will be Day 1 on PC as well...does someone who yet hasn't picked up a PS5 really need to get one or just stick with PC for those PS gaming needs?

Then think about the potential loss in PS+ revenue (you don't need to pay for online on PC, and the PS+ service isn't available there either) and 3P royalties...hos is this genuinely going to work out for their 1P and console sales in the long run? Guess we'll find out. I'd probably have taken a different approach if I were in Jim's shoes and just brought back Everquest for PC and focus on TLOU Part II Factions for PS & PC to start. Leave it at that, see how those do and then maybe do a remake Day 1 PS & PC and see what happens over a 1-year period before committing any further with PC plans (do more single-player ports to PC, do more Day 1 PC, or just focus on 1-2 MMO or live-service gaming franchises between console and PC and gradually add more when timing seems right).

Their current strategy looks almost too aggressive for PC given the typical strength of their console brand and ecosystem, I just don't want them to jeopardize that in the long run.

This was a late gen ps3 game that got a remastered on PS4 and a PS4 pro update. Has their ever been a more unnecessary remake? Can’t wait for the Last of Us part 2 remake on PS6.

I have no issue with them selling games on PC. But my reaction to this PS5 version borders between "WTF?" and "Why do they have to be THIS greedy?" $70 for the second remaster (whatever) version of just Part 1 is a money grab IMO. I genuinely thought they would consolidate the two games into 1 PS5 remaster. Which I would have happily paid for. No way am I paying $70 for part 1 again. Just NO.

You’re becoming a parody, dude. From RE4 to this…

I agree, his takes are quite extreme with no inbetween. However, this looks to be on the same level as The Last of Us 2 (maybe slightly better). Which I'm fine with. The Last of Us 2 is a very good looking game.

I've played the first game 5 or 6 times at this point (most recently a year ago) and double dipped already with the PS4 version. Gonna need a discount and some time before I decide to play it again.
