The Last of Us Part I - PS5 - Coming September 2 (PC version in development)

Man, I'm starting to see why old boy was mad about PS games coming to PC. I will wait for the PC version for the mods, since I never beat this because I tried it too late and I don't think it holds up, and the PS5 will continue collecting dust. I should sell it while it's still hard to come by.

I don't get the people whining about how this looks as a remake. A remake is still the same fucking game, story and character wise. Of course it's still going to look somewhat familiar/the same. But if you know anything about game development you will see this is completely different to the original. This is not a copy paste situation. Should they charge $70 for it? Maybe it could be a bit cheaper or at least some sort of deal for anyone who owns the original but this isn't some patch work and call it a day. If you think this should be some cheap $10 or so upgrade then you got no idea.

I personally think it's great they brought part 1 and 2 together on current gen. It's a phenomenal game that should be praised and appreciated. There are some new younger gamers out there who are going to experience this for the first time especially when the TV show drops if it turns out to be good!

Great time to be a PC gamer. You get gamepass for 1$ for 3 months and Naughty Dog is so nice to remake the premier Playstation 3 exclusive before releasing it on PC.

Like everything else aside I remember a time for PC gaming that wasn't too long ago when it was unthinkable to have Forza, Halo, Gears of War, Uncharted, God of War, The Last of Us on PC. And look at where we are now.

I own a PS5 so I don't buy those games again on PC, but it is pretty awesome to see all those games coming to PC since it is an amazing platform and the attention to quality the first party Sony exclusives received on PC and the Xbox exclusives on PC gamepass is awesome.

The one thing I disagree with is the price though. It genuinely should be a 39$ or 49$ game. Even though it received a lot of attention and rebuild from the ground up there are many assets and voice acting they can reuse and save a lot of money and time on.

It baffles me how they are charging full price for a game that was originally released on PS3 in 2013 and then was remastered for PS4 a year later. Are people seriously OK with paying full price for an almost 10-year old game?

If I were Sony, I'd at the very least include it in the PS+ Extra catalog on day 1.

Before Sony fans used it as a cheap dig at the Xbox One, no one cared if a top console game or exclusive also came out on the PC. SONY paid a fortune to have Tomb Raider series exclusive to the PS, yet it came out on the PC

It baffles me that some people still don`t understand what a remake is.

I'm not blown away by this and the full price makes it a no buy for me, at least not at launch.

I played this game twice already, on PS3 and PS4.

However, I'm not mad at the fact it exists. Plenty of people never played it and it was too old to port to PC as is, so it makes sense as a move to make a sort of remake* that can be launched on PC as well. TLOU2 will obviously follow.

*Regardless of how much they claim it was made from the ground up for PS5, they're obviously reusing a ton of code, between the original and 2. This feels like an engine and assets upgrade. Does it justify full price? I don't think so. Though I wouldn't expect to get it as a free upgrade either.

And this shit most likely doesn't include Factions. You're paying more for less.

But hey, Nintendo has been getting away with it for years now, can't blame Sony for wanting to cash in.

Calling this a remake is insulting to games like REmake 2, Bluepoint's Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls imo.

But let's assume that this is indeed a remake of the same effort and caliber, have we reached the point that we need full-priced "remakes" of games that are barely a decade old?
I definitely agree that this specific remake doesn`t look anywhere as "up to date" as it should but in general a decade in tech is basically eons so the jump between original and remake can be absolutely worth it.

Issue for Sony is this doesn’t look like a £63 improvement over the PS4 Pro version which is always £7 on offer digitally and physically. Plus the Pro version comes with multiplayer.

Should have been a £49.99 or even £39.99 release.

Thus my point that this shouldn't be fully priced. Also, not releasing it on their new PS+ tiers is a lost opportunity.

You do when you’re launching the IP on PC. The pedigree of the last of us is to be at the cutting-edge of fidelity and graphical performance. The remake was needed for all the new PC players. When Part II launches on PC they’ll have two graphical consistent games.

Like the devs themselves have said, when people actually see the gameplay changes and how actual gameplay looks compared to the original they'll understand. But I do think it should have been $60 instead of $70.

We do know. Neil confirmed on stage that they did not re-record any lines or reshoot any mocap cutscenes. Both lead actors were on stage and saw this for the first time ever. They werent even part of the remake development. The only things changed for the cutscenes were character models, background assets, and facial animations which were redone to match the original mocap data back when they first shot the cutscenes.

Troy was speechless and looked pissed off TBH.

My main point here is that this is priced higher than it needs to be. Surely, someone can argue that the game needed a technical modernization to launch on PC but what I'm seeing here doesn't justify the asking price, at least not for the PlayStation userbase which a large portion of the console owners have purchased this game twice already. And I mean yeah, in reality no one is forcing them to buy it for a third time but in my eyes this is like milking your hardcore base on Sony's part.

Not to mention, the "only on PS5" part which sounds absolutely ridiculous if you think that TLoU2 was released on PS4.

Debating prices is meaningless. The 99USD Firefly Edition sold out in a question of minutes. The value of the game is dictated by the market. Making it PS5 only cuts on production and optimisation costs so more profit for devs and Sony. Also, less time working on different versions.

I’m confused by the way. Are we to be enraged to have cross-gen titles or next-gen only? I can’t keep up.

The PS4 version was basically an upres port of the original game, and I got it for like $20 trading in the original, plus it had all the DLC I hadn’t bought.

So am I cool with paying for a remake…mind you, this isn’t the original game running at higher resolution but an actual remake…like 8 years after the remaster? I’ve moved 3 times, had 2 kids and changed careers in the span of that time. Am I shitting my pants over $70 when I paid $94 for Shadows of the Empire in 1996?

If you don’t want to buy it, don’t, the first remaster is basically free for PS+ subscribers. If you see value in the new experience they made, pony up. People had to work to make that experience.

People are baffled at the price even though Nintendo literally sold wii u re releases at full price on switch? Yeah its shit but these companies don't give a damn. Atleast it's a remake with alot work put into it instead of a resolution upgrade from 720p to 1080p like those cash grab wii u ports. Prices will go down quick too unlike Nintendo with their games staying full price for eternity.

Top one conveys nervousness/worry/innocence however you want to phrase it.

Bottom one is just like ‘lol just shot some cunt’.
Agreed.

The remake looks nice but this particular shot shocks me. The original is way better. A complete different atmosphere. And now I can't unsee the face change on Ellie. I don't get why change faces of characters.
Edit : could this be a right issue ? Original actress doesn't want her face to be used anymore ?

You start this paragraph claiming people are "whining" about how it looks, and arguing that at the end of the day it's really just "the same fucking game". Well of course it's "the same fucking game". I myself wouldn't expect it to be anything more. Of course you immediately transition from defending it's looks to defending it's price by arguing completely the opposite way. Saying it's not a copy/paste situation, or simple patchwork, and most importantly... "completely different to the original".

It can't be both ways at once bud. It's either the same fucking game, or completely different. So you can defend the looks or the price, but not both.

It's been released, rereleased, and now re-rereleased again three gens straight, and charging full price every time. While some people certainly seem to appreciate being sold the same game repeatedly, I am not one of them. It was pathetic enough watching so many people pretending Demon Souls was an actual PS5 exclusive despite me having played it a decade earlier. Sony's apparently seen the results, so I fully expect TLOU remastered deluxe version to be available shortly after they launch the PS6.

It's more the faces looking more realistic as the ND engine has developed over the years, just like Aloy in Forbidden West compared to Zero dawn

Tbh I thought they were going to release the remastered version on PC and calling a day. Now I have more hopes they would do the samething similar to Bloodborne.

It's going to stand out more than this remake: higher res textures, 4k or higher rendering resolution. Chromatic aberration toggle, 60 fps or more, reworked chalice dungeons...

Released next year after the elden ring hype dies a bit. It should make bank. The souls series grew a lot last gen and it's the most requested game by hardcore PC gamers.

Yeah $70 for all the Playstation fans? Fucking rip-off. I want to see how much it cost on Steam when the PC version comes out and how will the PC guys react if its 70$.

We will always have the option to buy it for cheaper from key resellers like cdkeys or gamivo.

I think ND would've benefited from showing gameplay with the trailer or in place of a trailer. Without the gameplay, people are just going to pick apart what they don't like. The gameplay is really where itll be make or break for this.
