Square Enix is handpicking access to Forspoken review codes. Apparently no PC review codes either

What? Rly? WTH!
yup its dumb as hell for an action game. The only way to dodge is to run or go to the settings and turn on auto dodge. Besides that stupid idea, the controls are actually smooth and enjoyable.

A few things i would like to change.

1. Let us have a dodge button
2. Let her move faster when you click on the run button

Yeah, the demo was 7/10 to me -- very much in line with Ubisoft games in terms of quality, standard, and graphics, which routinely scores above 80.

However, the combat was significantly more nuanced, fun, and unique than a Ubisoft Assassin's Creed game.

I'm looking forward to buying the game when it goes on sale.

Yeah, it's partly why I didn't play the demo intentionally.

If the full game mostly only has the combat going for it, then I want to go in blind and enjoy it fresh in the full release.

Hand picking who gets review codes ain't nothing new. What's remarkable here is how short the whitelist had become for Forspoken.

Good. I love it when extensions of Marketing & PR have to pay for something like the rest of us.

I wish studios would cut off more people. These reviewers ride the coattails of people who actually make something and act like they're some kind of authority cause they played a videogame. It's all so incredibly dumb.

I played it on launch on ps5, and there were absolutely no issues. What bad state are you referring to?
Bad performance and lack of visual clarity, I guess from dynamic resolution.

The game was also a clusterfuck on PC when it came out.

I don't remember hearing a single good news about this game. My metacritic prediction: 67(I guessed Callisto's score right, so trust me).

The girl who plays the main character should come to Returnal as a dlc, urgently.

The problem is they aren’t even giving out PS5 codes.

That I think folks are correct for calling SE to the carpet on, especially as it just reinforces the idea that reviews are little more than advertising for publishers.

Probably not on playstation. Sony does everything they can to not let go of your money once you purchased something on their store.

You caneasily on Xbox.
Is it just me or is it much easier to get refunds off Playstation now?

I managed to get a full priced refund for Dying Light 2, a game I pre-ordered prior to launch back in 2021 and had put 40 hours into.

I complained as there was an unfixable bug which no longer allowed me to fast travel, therefore killing my ability to do the main story when I needed to go to the other map section.

I contacted Techland and their advice was to make a new save which was a terrible fix, so I complained to PlayStation, and got a full refund without any questions or delay.

If that's the case then I'm happy for my blue brothers that Sony has put down some of their greediness.

But it sounds like it's the same as xbox and steam.

Ribi Ribi nahhhhh, it doesn't matter what system its played on. My biggest issue was never performance, it was design. It was no longer an RPG (at least no longer the one promised), extremely shallow, slow dumb AI and PS1 level NPCs, loads of missing features even to the point of menus popping up of features removed in the game lol Playing on PC isn't magically going to get you better AI, more of an RPG and a return to all features missing or some weird shit. I would have given it the same score regardless tbh.

So hard to say if this game will move the numbers Square thinks it should, but they've been known to exaggerate what they think a game should sell ie Tomb Raider, so who knows. Its not a game we've been waiting 8 years for with a massive amount of promises or something lol
Tell that to the good reviews it got day one on pc from fans and critics. The vast majority of people crying were the last gen console people with their bugs. If they released it as a PC exclusive we would have a vastly different conversation about the launch.

Another cyberpunk 2077

CP2077 was heralded as the second coming of pixel Jesus. Hype train grew a rocket to the moon and time travel technology to overtake all timelines.

Forspoken on the other hand has gotten more and more shit on since the second trailer where all the cringe voice acting and dialogue got dropped.

This has been on a crash course for failure for a long while now, and I think even SE knows it’s destined to bomb so they are mitigating word of mouth so the pre order peters don’t catch wind and still buy day one.

This game will be one of the worst of 2023 and I’m hyped for it.

i honestly don't know much about this game, it looked like it had potential, demo definitely had lighting issues and people saying the main character talked to much lol. i guess game is gonna flop. limiting reviews is a terrible business practice.

Not saying the game is going to be great, it probably won’t be, but these review sites going online to complain about not getting game code for free just reeks of entitlement.

Is it really ‘entitlement’?
It’s not about getting the game for free. Review codes are the only way you can get to play the game pre-release and have a review out in time for launch / embargo. Getting a review out pre-release gives their sites the clicks and traffic they need to stay alive.

I don’t believe these folks talking are so skint that they can’t pay $70 for their own copies. But nobody’s selling until launch.

Well considering the hacked up engine they are using and the scuffed FF15 team behind it....sounds like review codes goes out to the usual yes men that square enix likes to try to drain as many initial sales before ultimately this game gets hit with budget bin pricing to clear out inventory.

Long story short, when a publisher does shady shit like this, they don't have much confidence in their own product.

All what power? Was the reaction to A Plague Tale Requiem the same? Are we expecting a 1060 or 1660 to carry for another 6 years? Let's stop the fake outrage.

Let’s not go overboard comparing an AA production to an AAA game.

I actually kinda agree with this. Sadly, we know there are more than a few reviewers who play right into the console war toxicity BS, and some who try gaming the MC by abusing the meta aggregate process. Nonsensical reviews that have no rhyme or reason, internal logical consistency or sound reasons for providing the scores that they do. The fact some will absolutely try giving it a lower score just because it's a PS console exclusive. Like, would anyone expect a genuinely honest review from Windows Central, considering one of the writers there has, multiple times, blamed Square-Enix for not bringing FF games to Xbox (or is that WCCFTech? I think they both do it)?

These things unfortunately happen and it's reviewers' fault for not holding themselves to higher standards. At the same time, Square-Enix could easily abuse this as a means of shielding criticism for an otherwise broken game.

Supporting PC reviewers not getting a code because “they might play into console war toxicity”?

All these same reviewers on the console side got codes for every single PlayStation exclusive last year. You have no data to support your claim that the likes of VGC and SkillUP would be showing up with ‘nonsensical reviews’.

No, none of this is ‘reviewers fault’ since Square’s behavior here is the outlier. Every out game company seems to widely seed out review codes.

I’ll add that Windows Central does review PC games, and Sony routinely sends them review codes for their PC games.

At the end of the day however, the would-be target audience have a demo they can play, right now, to get a feel for the game and see if it's something to their liking. I've heard a lot of people saying the demo's very fun and movement feels great, in fact the only two negatives seem to be that the environment is a bit generic and the MC talks a bit too much/uses too much "out of place" language.

There’s no PC demo and the console demo was not exactly greeted with overwhelmingly positive impressions.

For all the people absolutely shocked at this: can you name a single modern SONY console exclusive that didn't have the console as the only review code provided?

. . .I mean this game may certainly end up hot-garbage (particularly in terms of performance given those PC requirements), but it's not like this is evidence of that.

Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop were Sony console exclusives and PC review codes were provided to PC outlets.

Sort of, but it's also legitimately a red flag that people will likely appreciate being made aware of. You could say it's whining or that they're giving you advanced warning that all is likely not well. If reviews are a buyer's guide then they've found another way to advise the buyers who would otherwise look at their reviews.

Not that shocking that Square would limit who could review it, the game doesn't look that good. The voice work sucks and the premise of the story sounds like something a teenage girl would write after binge watching a bunch of anime.
