Has anyone noticed an improvement in audio quality in the Switch version? Would be great to hear such a good soundtrack sound cleaner.
It sounds better to me so far, not that the original needed music improvement. It just seems like the atmospheric audio effects are better somehow.

Been playing handheld and just soaking it up. Used the default controls and I'm flying through it faster than previous playthroughs.

Feels very solid. The only time I've wished I had the oled switch.

Now there are two Metroid games I want to play on Switch. What to do, what to do….

I can’t justify getting one this late into the cycle for a couple games. The fact that it only goes to 900p is so lame. Dying for a pro-version of Switch now.

Eh, it was still pretty slow to turn, high should have been low and go from there. Red Steel 2 and the COD games and that GoldenEye thing (much like COD) alongside Conduit (but that game suqed anyway) had much better sensitivity settings. But it's hardly a twitch shooter so it all works really.
I’ll probably just stick to Twin Stick or Classic controls then. I wonder if any of the third party GC controllers with extra buttons are good….

A Remaster is NOT a Remake!
Depends on what your definition of a remaster is. Most remasters are simple FPS and resolution bumps. Too many examples of this to list. I’ll agree that this isn’t a full on remake like Dead Space or Demon’s Souls but some work has definitely gone into the lighting, geometry, and textures. Trust me, I fully expected N to just port the Wii U version over with nothing but a resolution bump but this is much better than that.

Man, this shit is good. Very few games (especially from that era) age this gracefully. Best metroidvania of all time imo, arguably the best game of all time.
Because it's sort of obscure and the gameplay doesn't have a wide appeal, it has hit an obscure space in video game history. There are a lot of people who never played this.

Metroid Prime was reviewed better than Resident Evil 4, it's still almost impossible to compare this to anything else, it's really unique. All it needed was an update to its controls, the gameplay hasn't been outdated at all.

This is a remaster that has been put together with respect and love towards the original, they nailed it. It feels like such a treat to get to play this.

Why the hell are they calling this only a remaster? It's freaking brand new.

I mean come on now. The difference is night and day. The Switch version is literally a remake so why not call it that?

This is in a gray area between the two though. It seems to be a 100% graphical remake, with all the models, environments, textures redone, and an entirely new rendering engine with more modern materials and lighting.

BUT it's still a remaster in the sense that it seems to use the same exact animations, level layouts, enemy AI, etc and probably still uses the original codebase for a lot of things.

Yeah, I’m hearing this looks pretty bad on a big television and the gyro controls are iffy.

What a shame, because the improvements they’ve made seem real nice, for the most part.

I’d love to play this on modern hardware but not a janky old Switch. It’s an all-time great and deserves the best.

Seeing all the comparisons to the original: Is this the same engine? Or is this, maybe, the engine they´ll be using for MP4 as well?

I'm playing on a 65" OLED and I think it looks great
Of course I'm not a pixel peeping dork

Just ignore that user....i did so a while back. Too many shitty hottakes. Needs his safeoralone safe space.

Sorry I upset you by calling this game an all-time great. Sounds like you need the safe-space, so you should probably just block me.

Some people are way too defensive of their favorite brands around here.

Does the Switch OLED give you Oled on the big-screen, when docked as well? Or just the handheld screen?

If it’s the former, that’s pretty great. Another reason I may need to just dive in and get an OLED. I’d love to play this game with OLED, which would help alleviate being stuck at 900p, but the Switch screen is too tiny for me.

For me this game is a lazy Remake but they call it only Remaster..

If they would call it offically a Remake this would rise a shitstorm

Right, if you've hedged then better to oversell than undersell. Also why shadow-drop makes sense, when there are no expectations everything is a net positive.

Just watched one of the comparison videos and holy crap, this is really more than just a remaster. They retouched every detail, it seems and upgraded it for Switch, keeping the 60fps.
Makes me want to buy it, but my backlog would cry too loud. At least it gave me the impulse to dust off my Switch and finally beat BotW ..

Holy shit the jaggies, this looks like shit, some people are doing some major copium on this rip off of a "remaster".

$50 CND is far too much for this joke.

Should have came with an FOV option, this is awful for 2023.
It’s only $50 cdn? Well, I guess I gotta buy it now, I was expecting $60 with the Trudeau tax

Demon Souls wasn't a full remake, it was another glorified remaster, afaik it's running on PS3 original game's logic with a new coat of paint on top.

Anyone opinions on how this looks on a 4K TV? I have a 43" and want to make sure it looks crisp enough... IMO Mario Odyssey and Smash look sharp enough.

A lot of posters online are upset with the price but $40 seems fair due to all the work that's been done.

People who bought it what you think of the price?
$40 for a high effort remaster of arguably one of the greatest games of all time. A steal, as far as I’m concerned. If it was a straight port I could see being upset, but you need only watch the side by side comparisons to see that this is way more than that.

I guess it depends on how much graphics matter. They've put the work in to make it look a lot nicer, but it is still fundamentally the same exact game you've played before. If, like me, you haven't really played through it in a very long time and you're looking for a good excuse, then yeah, it's worth it. If you've played it to death already, maybe not.

It's very crisp, but very aliased. There appears to be no AA whatsoever, but it does seem to be a locked 1080p/60 at least.

I…anyway this is a huge step up from something like the Skyward Sword or Mario 3D All Stars ports. And I’m actually playing on my Switch in portable mode and marveling at the battery life when compared to the Steam Deck

On that, we agree. At least it’s not a rom running on an emulator. That would be classic Nintendo approach.

I think my expectations were that it would be $40 so I wasn't upset. They're still selling dread for $60 so I guess it makes sense

Now if less effort is put into the sequels, especially Prime 3, and they’re the same price or more, I could see being upset,

They even added more translations to the game. If the Dutch version is anything like Breath of the Wild it should be excellent.

Cool, thanks, I've seen no AA is great for visual clarity on Switch games most of the time if the graphics don't have lots of tiny details so I appreciate it

This is as much of a remake as Modern Warfare remastered games are and I don't recall anyone calling them remakes simply because they had new graphics on top of old games.

A remaster is when original product is touched up for enhancement, which is exactly what this game is. A remake is when project based on the original is completely started from scratch with brand new code, new visuals, new audio, new AI and so on.

What has confused people is publishers releasing old upresed games on new hardware and calling them remasters, when in reality they're just simple ports. This practice has made many people refer to remasters as remakes because they're way more than just ports for new hardware/platforms.

I'll try asking one last time.

Anyone know if this has Splatoon-style gyro for pro controller? Just wondering. The graphical update sounds nice, but this would potentially push me over the edge.

For the hesitant people here, it's a complete remake, I don't even understand Nintendo's logic calling it a remaster.
Complete graphic remake, 3d assets from environments, models, textures, effects and even more gorgeous artistic direction than the original.
I'm currently playing it and have a hard time restraining myself from taking pictures, because each new room is an incredible sight to behold.

I'm not exagerating here (of course if we remain on Switch), but even having a good pc with a 3080ti, it's really beautiful.
I guess the level design and corridor style of the game allowed them to really push the graphics here.

Most impressive game on switch, no doubt. Could pass for a PS4 game.
Are your impressions from playing in handheld mode? If not, would you mind telling us what you’re playing on? Monitor, TV, size, etc. Even 1080p will look grainy to many people on larger screens (60+ inches).

Not once did I equate both games or insinuate they were ‘the same’. My entire post was one paragraph, not hard to parse.

Nor did I suggest you did? Why so defensive, Ozriel?

Maybe pay attention to the full context of the conversation from start to end before you jump the gun.
A shithead posted their hot take in the thread without bothering to perform even 5 seconds of research. Even by GAF standards, it was a remarkable performance.
Dumbass warriors tend to come out in droves whenever Nintendo is talked about. They think it is a free for all.

I played it with the pro controller. It depends on what you mean by Splatoon style. You can play it two ways with the gyro. One is where it acts like the Wii pointer. The other is basically Cube control with the gyro instead of the joystick. You hold a trigger down and then move the reticle.

Sorry, I'm legit confused. Switch OLED has an OLED screen on the handheld.
I am asking, when the Switch is docked to an OLED television, do you also get OLED there?

Are we in a console war or something? Someone let me know which team I'm on.

Anyone know? Guess I can just Google.

Haha that was honestly the most idiotic thing I've read today on this board lol.
Why? I am just asking about Switch OLED and how it relates to an OLED television. I can't help but get the feeling I triggered you or something, because it's a weird reaction to a basic question.

I'm trying to find the part where it seems like a secret troll-post, because it feels like that's what you're reacting to. Otherwise, why so hostile about an OLED Switch question? It's idiotic to not know how a Switch OLED works? C'mon guy, not everyone is in your bubble.

This thread is hostile af lol.
