I don't understand what's the issue. Elden Ring doesn't look incredible either, it's not particularly an impressive game visually.

But... we never said that's actually a problem, that's the thing. If the game is good, then okay, we'll deal with the graphics being like this and it will be fine, I'm just really surprised by people saying that the graphics are amazing, I even saw people saying they didn't believe it was running on a ps5... it's just ridiculous.

I'm not saying the game will be bad because of its graphics, I'm just trying to add some nuance here with all the people saying it's the most beautiful game ever.

I love games from Platinum Games and they never had particularly great looking game, it didn't stop me from loving them, I'm just being honest on the technical part alone on its own.
Sooo fucking sick of graphics conversations in every fucking thread, I look at the game and it looks great and that all I need, I dont care AT ALL about the tech behind it.

Uhm

I mean the one thing that influences it the most that they poached a Dragon's Dogma/Devil May Cry guy from Capcom to lead the combat.

That might probably more why than Team Ninja/SOP.

I did not know that. Seems promising, because I hope it feels as good to play as it looks. Needs to be tight and responsive.

I'm torn on this.

Think ffvii remake part 2 is for me this year. Strange it can look great but a lot ofnthe time it looks really flatly lit and the combat looks ...I dunno.

Hopefully it's great but this looks much worse than hogwarts legacy to me, it looks kinda bland?

Can't put my finger on it.

Is it unreal engine 4?

This looks great. I hope it's the shot in the arm the series needs. Going back to turn based isn't going to help. If this doesn't work they might as well just remake the first 6 games next.

Glad they improve the magic and sword effect a lot, that is the big highlight for this trailer. The eikon battles though, seems extremely disappointing, first it feels very arcady, the most serious issue is that it all seem to happen outside of the main world and limited to a seperate hub, doesn't seem like you can use those eikon to battle enemies on the main game world, that is very bad. Hopefully this is not the case as it comes out. Some of the sound effects as the attack hits are kind of weird as well. Overall the feeling about this is kind of mixed. Will buy a ps5 to play it in day 1 though, I play most of the FF games anyway so this probably will end up around the middle of the pack.

Combat system is abysmal. Really flashy, high impact moves and effects... with tiny impact of enemy HP. I assume that there will be a stagger system that SE seem to think is great gameplay.
Aside from XI & XIV, Final Fantasy from XIII onwards has not been relevant to me. I think this one will be "watch a let's play at 2x speed" game purely to spot the FFXIV inspirations.

Edit: Call me blind, just noticed a stagger icon on what I assume are elite/boss enemies. Ew

People really trying to shit on the graphics but can't even explain what they think are bad about the graphics 🤣🤣🤣

Look, I'm not going to say this is the best-looking game ever. Never thought that. For now that game is still HFW, and soon it'll be Burning Shores once that releases. I did notice some odd lip sync "issues" (could really just be that they're doing both English and Japanese dubs and it actually takes a lot to sync for multiple languages) and stiffness in some facial animations. Maybe there could be a bit more cloth deformation on certain articles of clothing. A bit crisper textures in select places.

But overall I'd say the visuals are very good. The art style is cohesive, and that's saying a lot considering some of the more traditional FF elements in there which could have caused some Sonic '06 style visual dissonance. Animations in combat look cool with a lot of impact and punctuation for key hits, movement looks smooth, framepacing is perfect...still wish we could get some 60 FPS footage but I guess we'll see that later on. As long as there's a 60 FPS mode confirmed would be nice, just to have the option (I think all 9th-gen games should have the option TBH, regardless of the game).

As for the combat, I liked what I saw. I would like to see more of the strategic elements in a full battle, but I have a decent gist of that, what with selecting your spell skills, (I think) combining spells, triggering different states for access to different spells etc. There seems to be a lot of depth there. I don't think the combat is too flashy; everything still seems very readable in terms of visual language, I never lost track of where the main character was or where attacks were landing, what was happening on the screen etc. THAT would have been a sign it's too busy visually IMO.

Overall I'm pretty excited for this game. It'd be among the first batch of games I pick up for PS5 alongside Elden Ring (I don't want to play that on a PS4, too much of a struggle) and probably upgrade my GOW Ragnarok to the PS5 version to finish there (same with HFW). I think SE have a good thing going here, now it's just up to the story to deliver.

Looks amazing. Skipped the final part though as it looked spoilerish.
The presentation seemed really geared towards more casual players but I guess it makes sense since at this point most "core" games probably know if they are in or not

It looks more like Devil May Cry. I don't see much Final Fantasy there.

Like Devil May Cry but instead o just walking in a straight line from one ugly combat arena to the next you've got:
Tons of cool and varied looking locations to explore taking you all over a whole continent
Towns and NPC's
Probably an interesting story with compelling characters
Awesome setpiece moments
Gear, equipment, upgrades, skill trees, etc
Side quests

Combat looks boring. Sick of every Final Fantasy game having the main characters in all black for the whole game. Really wish there were more item slots to make my character look different and not just full skins I'm sure you can buy with real money later.

I am disgustingly excited for this and I have no clue why...

I think its just being excited for a final fantasy again is always a great feeling. (And not a remake) also because this is the ARR director and team is also giving me the good tinglys... not sure on that voice acting though. It's well acted but like the classic jrpg weirdness where the voice does not match the character at all.

Which is weird because I generally find final fantasy since X has been pretty good at solving that issue

The accessibility options reminds me of Nier Automata's. Good on them for making it actually part of the gameplay instead of just a slider for damage and health. Also they really nailed that high fantasy aesthetic. I wish the UI also followed a similar look, getting really tired of the same soulless UI over and over. More importantly, ice waifu!

No pause during combat?
Can't wait for the endless cries like in the "souls" threads.
If the soundtrack is all as bad as the theme song then I have zero hopes for the piano collection for this one.

just remember: if you haven't 'coaxed' a consumer base into obsessing over graphics, you haven't got a consumer base willing to pay exorbitant prices for tvs, monitors, & graphics cards...

I think the graphics are really disappointing. They looked great in those screens they released last year, but bizarrely they look way worse in motion.

About the best I can say is at least it'll be playable in 60fps. On that point, why are these demos always shown in 30fps? It's ridiculous. 60fps looks way better.

I reckon this is going to be a lot of fun to play, like DMC but with loads of depth. And some of the Eikon battles look awesome, especially the shoot-em-up ones.

I did notice that the lip sync looked a bit off, but other than that, I’m going to be very happy getting lost in this game.

I love the idea of the monster hunts, the arcade battles with online leaderboards and Panzer fucking Dragoon.
