Played for an hour. Just so bland.

I cannot fathom why they released it in this state. It’s not even at Alpha stage.

because was supposed to be Xbox's GOTY
Don't know why someone would think that. From the announcement trailer till the later promo material it looked nothing like GOTY, if someone thought that then they can blame themselves.

Earlier in the topic I was being slightly sarcastic when I wondered if the “Critics Recommend” rating on Open Critic would be lower than Forspoken… but damn. 24%!

It still has time to recover though, as it only has about half the total reviews as Forspoken does.

The more I see of the game, the more it looks like an indie-developed early VR game that goes for $20. Only with VR you're actually in the game so the jankiness is kind of embraced cause it just generates laughter. Also, the aiming is fun. I can't imagine playing this game with a controller on a TV, so many other games to spend your time on.

for example (clip) : A-Tech Cybernetic

This shit selling for $70 is unacceptable.

He’s a real gamer, I’ve been matched with and against him in numerous games online.

Imagine the orgasm some here would have if they were able to decapitate Papa Phil in Chivalry 😆 (hey it’s on PS+ this month, he might still play it)

Did he speak? That could have been his child or an intern ... :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You don't need to scrap everything to move the game onto similar hardware. Maybe if they were going from Switch to XSX, because then you'd want higher quality assets and stuff, but PS5 and XSX is a lateral move. Deathloop and Ghostwire were finished on PS5 and released on XSX a year later, largely poor ports but that's like, worst case scenario (and I highlly doubt it took a year of work to finish them).

Yes that is true and it is clearly easier than ever to conduct multiplat development. However, that isn't as easy if the game is significantly developed targeting a single platform - a single set of specs, single code base, single set of features and indeed a single way of selling the product.

However as an independent company they may have had an idea for this game, and PS5 exclusivity leading them to rely on features of the development environment and console itself with a planned $70 retail sales target. Bear in mind a potential PS5 exclusivity deal gets them the technical assistance of SIE.

Then the acquisition happens, whatever code base that is PS-specific is trashed, SIE technical assistance is not coming, and the game is adjusted for "gamepass, xbox and PC". How fundamental was that Change with a big C as the studio director put it? For starters they have to adjust their asset base for the series S - something that at that time they probably hadn't considered. Their budget is also changed in recognition it's a gamepass title rather than a potential PS exclusive with the associated sales revenues and exposure that brings.

Not hard to imagine this all led to a change in the scope of the game to match this new set of target platforms and revenue stream. It's not just about the technical aspects although they are significant - the change of motivations to implement various features can lead to fundamental changes in game design.

Well Phil has literally told everyone he doesn't have a clue what he's doing before so I don't know why this comes as a surprise:

"Teams are doing a really good job on keeping our hardware on track, I'd say the bigger unknown is probably the game production - just being honest," said Spencer.

"On the hardware side, we feel good about our plans, there’s some impact on our schedules, but overall we’re in line with where we thought we would be. On the game production side, we’re learning every day, I still feel good about it, but I also need to ensure the security and the safety of our teams is the most important thing and not unduly push when things aren’t ready.”

And yet people actually wanted them to buy even MORE studios and IPs to mismanage and lock forever behind a rental service 🤦‍♂️

People should be worried about Starfield. You have a developer in decline that keeps scaling up their games when they can barely manage the scale of their previous games.

I've been worried about Starfield since HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 said both Redfall and Starfield were going to be launched in rough shape. I still want him to be wrong about Starfield, but he got Redfall right......so yeah....worried.
