then we would have the 3rd game called Mortal Kombat... that would be way worse.

and I bet people will eventually start calling it MK12 anyways, just like everyone in the world (INCLUDING THE XBOX STORE BTW) calls the 2011 reboot MK9, which of course lead Netherrealm to name the next games MK10 (MKX) and 11.
Maybe it isn't mortal kombat 11 but 2, those are roman numerals just like the original mortal kombat 2

Feeling a little nostalgic and actually interested in this. Some gameplay would be nice to see.

Seeing a Switch version has me a little hesitant though, and confused. Hesitant because it obviously suggests cross gen. Confused because it doesn't make sense to me for a Switch version but no PS4.

they most likely didn't want to develop a PS4/One version in-house, and Saber Interactive has a hard enough time squeezing the game onto the Switch that they also can't make PS4/One versions.

they already have 4 studios working on the separate versions, and Warner Bros I guess didn't want to have a 5th or even 6th studio just to make a PS4/One version

Why is the reboot version got God Liu Kang? He should look like his classic self If its a reboot. Same as Shang Tsung. They already done the whole soft reboot.

The violence looks good but where are the classic costumes? Sub Zero and Scorpion should look simply.
Liu Kang, Johnny Cage? Sonya? I want them to look like Bruce Lee, Van Dam and Cynthia Rothrock Like the classics.
Looking forward to a good story mode.

Either way its better art style than SF6 lol

Going to be gameplay at Sony's show I assume.
No last gen consoles but will be on Switch. Gotta be the cloud version then?
Probably through Cloud. They just don't leave Switch out of it because it's still profitable. If given the chance, MK would be released only on PS5/Xbox

The Switch version of MK11 must have sold well enough to get the sequel, and Switch software sales will be higher than PS4 and Xbox One software sales right now.

The existence of the port doesn't mean the PS5 and and XBS versions will be held back.

It's an alternate timeline and continuation of the MK11 story.

Watch this for context

Because it's a sequel, but a reboot. At the end of 11 when Liu Kang becomes a god he goes to an alternate time period and speaks to Kung Lao.

So not a remake or reboot of the first game. But a sequel to MK11… weird but ok I guess
Yeah, but we are going back to the beginning so there will be plenty of fan service. Don't worry if that's what you are interested in. It'll be there. Liu is leading Earth realm with all his prior knowledge so it should make for a fun time.

We're getting a new MK, new SF and new Tekken all within a 12 month period, what a time to be alive!

I like the direction they are going with it, looking forward to gameplay. Make sure it has robust single player like the past 3 entries and it'll be a must buy, in Netherealm I trust.

EDIT: and on the subject of Kameos, Colin mentioned in the most recent Sacred Symbols that he got info from a reputable source about 3 "guest characters" in the new MK that sounded so crazy out there that he couldn't believe it. I think they might do some wild multiverse stuff with agreements with different platform holders...

You guys really need to relax your idea of "cross gen" as if there's a hard line between levels of platforms.

Games can be "ported" to whatever platform if there's enough money to justify figuring out how to make it work. Unless there's cross-play where the different versions interoperate with each other, there's not necessarily this reason people assume developers are constrained under that a game needs to be limited to some kind of middlepoint where it has to work on all platforms at the same time; it's the port studio's job to figure out how to cut it down for the platform they need to produce for.

Also, most technology out on the market is "cross gen" these days. UE5 runs on PS5, it runs on PS4, it runs on Switch, it runs on a phone... certain features of an engine or a plugin or what have you can be made to push a higher scale of hardware (usually on top of traditional systems, not much yet has required ground-up work wholly built with the new tech,) but this is not like in the old days where code would be specifically designed to run certain code fragments on certain chips of certain hardware to get a certain special sauce out of one box.

We shall see if MK1 is a technological wunderkind or not, but if it doesn't dazzle, it won't be all because somebody is also making a Switch version.

Forgettable is one way of saying no music knowledge
Could you really compare this trailer's music to other similar works and seriously with a straight face, say that you'll remember it years from now?

And before you begin, I'm not defending the rap itself. I'm defending the juxtaposition it made.

It’s 2023’s fault. They come in three.

Just like we are getting a new Zelda, Diablo and Final Fantasy within 2 months.
And remakes of Dead Space, Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill 2 in the same year.

Is Covid19 the cause of this Gamey Boom?

So Soul Calibur-ish platform exclusive characters?

Could be interesting.

Dear game developers,

As a gamer, I am your biggest ally, please value my time and don’t f**king show anything if you can’t show the actual game.

Thank you,

So the leaker was 100% right about everything. Ed Boon came out and lied through his teeth lmao.

No PS4 or One X versions, good.

But its on Switch... Eh. Hype somewhat deflated. Unless its an entirely separate team or something.
A completely separate Team is doing the switch version. So chances are this is a next gen game with a dedicated down port by a separate studio. That’s actually how it should be done.

Rubbish

Mortal Kombat has always been announced with CGI trailers.

CGI trailers where you learn nothing new can be critiqued. Trailers where you learn interesting stuff about the game - setting, context, character - are fine.

Game comes out in September. You’ll get enough Gameplay to gag on in June.

Agree to disagree. Cross gen games warrant hesitation IMO. I'm not saying that I won't buy them to be clear. I'm just gonna need to see final product before jumping in (Ie, no preorder).
