Microsoft comments on the PlayStation Showcase

lh032

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
they are right though.

However, by doing this they have raise the expectation on the Xbox showcase, they either very confident or very stupid.

I laughed, at least it’s not another tedious tweet about cloud or different colour controllers.

Their showcase is going to be shit as well. It usually is sadly for me (please be good)

At least MS enjoyed the show. Look at all the games they like.

It was a good show for games in general. There’s much to enjoy as a gaming showcase, and since I have a PSVR2, the VR sections work well.

Underwhelming when you consider how it was sold by insiders and journalists as the wave 2 for PlayStation and a deep dive into what their studios are up to.

Good for them. Now let's see how many games they have at their own showcase that they didn't have to cancel PS5 versions of.

Wait, Marathon wasn't even locked down as PS5 console exclusive, despite Sony owning the company?

The showcase was even more of a disaster for Sony than I thought then.
But won't a multiplayer competitive shooter potentially bring in more money if its available on multiple platforms than making it exclusive to only one platform?
Sounds like a smart business desciion to me to have it on as many platforms as possible.

The guys running these companies are not console warriors.

They need to STFU and deliver some big games before posting shit like this. You could actually do the same for there past events. Both MS and Sony need to sit and rethink there strategy because 3 years in this gen and the games are lacking (more on MS side).

What I'm i missing here. They are just saying, these games are also coming out on Xbox?

The tweet is actually fairly innocent, Microsoft doing their part to inform users of content announced today coming to Xbox. But fanboys will read that as shots fired. Whoever wrote that tweet kind knew what they were doing too, as innocent as it seems.

Lets not forget that Phil felt good about the Sony's showcase in 2020:

Xbox usually has good presentations, but the titles that are interesting tend to be third party releases. Their first party always tends to be promises of stuff to come 2-5 years out with CGI trailers or even just CGI Teasers.

The xbox even in 2020 was still better than the trash that was the Sony event of 2020.

That's why you never pay attention to "insiders" and "journalists."

Haven't we learned by now?

When Sony bought Bungie they outright said all their future games will be multiplats. Did you guys think they were lying or something?
People like to believe their own lies or just stay in denial so their favorite plastic box/colored flag stays winning in their childish mind. It's very sad.

They've been waiting years to jab back for the game sharing video. They finally had an opening.

Marathon being there is odd not gonna lie.

Marathon on Xbox is Sony keeping up with their promise of giving Bungie full publishing rights after the acquisition.

Something Microsoft failed to do after hinting how it wouldn't be in their best interests to block Bethesda's newer IPs on Playstation.

And now Playstation owners are oh so sad that they can't play Redfall on their platform. Truly a major loss. Many people went on to sell their PS5s after that game launched.

Sony realizes that Destiny 2 has a large PC player base and wants those $$$$$'s. Bungie was also adamant about severing their players where they play.

I would imagine that buying a company that can continue to produce product at a high level which adds money to your bottom line must be a godsend for Sony.

Why is this a surprise? Sony have said since the acquisition that Bungie would be a multi platform developer.

It's surprising for numerous reasons.

If they said that, the first surprise is that someone is actually sticking to their word and will still release on a competitor's platform.

The second surprise is spending $3.6 billion to not fully lock down said games on your platform. Obviously there is too much money involved to keep the games away from the Xbox console specifically - which itself is a surprise too.

The final surprise is how few major first-party exclusives, or even platform exclusives (which I thought Marathon was), were shown at this Sony showcase. Nearly everything is on Xbox too, which is why this dunk by MS is so effective.

The pearl clutching at this tweet is borderline absurd.

This *is* the point of Gamepass. We all know how much MS is struggling with their first party output, but being able to offer a large amount of third party content at significantly less cost than your competitor, is the commercial incentive that they are offering to consumers.

Again, happy to be corrected, but I think it was suggested that MS passed over the chance to reaquire Bungie, and I expect that it was primarily down to the point that Bungie refused to go exclusive.

I think it makes sense for Sony. They’re an amazing studio. There’s the basic revenues that they will bring in and PS will be able to offer exclusive content on Destiny.

Still, it was a lot of money.

Marathon was in development long before the buyout, it even goes back to the time Bungie was under Activision, at which point it was defined as a "side project" on which Bungie could allocate a low % of their resources:

Sorry for the source in French but you can Google translate it I suppose.

The agreement to keep Bungie multiplatform was made between Bungie and Sony as a precondition to acquisition.

When did Microsoft promise Zenimax/Bethesda that they’ll leave them as a multiplatform developer post acquisition?

Warren and Grubb also both cited it as a Bungie and Netease game last year.

This was always going to be MP.

Fuck me did you even bother to read the announcement of the acquisition? All Bungie games will be multiplat. It’s been known for a long time.

The bar is set so low for them and they could easily top the show but like somebody posted in a different thread I don't think they will. I mean they could gain a lot of momentum if they showed actual gameplay of the next Doom/Quake and ES6 but they won't.

Say what you want about the show, and it sucked, but the way Xbox PR always try to piggy back on these to get some eyes on them tells you how the brand is in the toilet.

Hardly. This is playful ribbing and something they have both been doing to each other for decades at this point. You seem rather desperate to paint this as a negative thing for Xbox instead of Sony fucking up their big showcase.

What are you talking about? These aren’t gamepass games.

What, you guys are seeing what isn’t there. They have done this before, Spencer isn’t taking a dig at the showcase. Even if it deserves to be dunked on.

This. It's just ribbing, even if that, both brands social media does their fair share of it.

So they shouldn’t point out that the games are on their system and simply let everyone assume they’re exclusives?

I was mistaken in thinking they were on Gamepass, but what do you expect them to do?
