Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Man, I'm really getting fed up with temporal artefacts (and moaning about it), it's ruining pretty much everything I'm seeing. It's like loads of devs just collectively gave up about two years ago and stopped trying to make an image stable. Paired with low accuracy DoF, Sharpening, excessively low internal resolution and fine particle effects; it's undermining so many otherwise great looking titles. Things seemed so much more clean, consistent and stable between say ~2016-2021.

Jim Ryans Sony prioritized maximum sales over innovation. Cross gen lasted this long purely on greed. Sony are paying for it reputation wise in enthusiastic circles such as here but they're making more money than ever. Gladly it's finally coming to an end now, albeit way too late for my liking!
Is it? They were completely absent from the show. They have two last gen as fuck looking exclusives next year and nothing else from first party.

Meanwhile ms at least has hellblade 2 and despite how much everyone criticized them for this year, i still have to give the nod to starfield and forza for looking next gen at times. I don’t want to turn this thread into system wars but Sony studios have completely dropped the ball this Gen when it comes to pushing graphics fidelity after leading last Gen. They used to compete with rockstar, now they can’t even compete with remedy, massive and ninja theory. As a fan of these studios, it’s gut wrenching to see such a downfall of not just one but 6-8 premiere A+ tier studios.

30 fps or 60 fps.

Thanks to the jaguar cores being completely trash, no one bothered updsting pro and x1x games with 60 fps, and settled on going to 1440p-4kcb. You are still getting that in most games that target 30 fps.

Avatar when stepping out in Pandora made me say HOLY SHIT!
I didn’t want to spoil that moment in the main thread because they do such a great job of setting it up with music and capturing the feeling of freedom, but yes, it is one of the best most impressive moments in a game yet. You are not only smacked in the face with arguably the most detailed jungle ever, but the art design in that particular scene is jaw dropping.

It’s like that kzsf image when they open up the door in that helicopter thingy and you see this massive city. They could’ve done the same thing here and let you see the huge jungle horizon, but they chose to make it more intimate and then increased the detail to 100.

Well that was a bit of an assumption on my part, but surely the next GoW, Horizon, ND game (that isn't constant re-releases of old games) will be current gen only and finally push the bar further forward
 
HellBlade looks really good. But I don’t know if I’m watching a bad stream, but it looks too blurry. I want to see Crystal clear fidelity.
Post processing combined with a almost certainly 1440p or below upscaled image is probably the reason given the level of graphical fidelity on display. This footage is running on Series X so you can't get those type of graphics and have a 4k resolution.

I mean this graphical quality is what everyone has been wanting from these systems and now we have it, you want a crystal clear image 🤣 Get a High end PC is my advice.

Pretty much everything on console outside of 30/40fps Sony 1P/2P stuff; Asian-developed titles are some of the worst offenders some reason, UE5 titles too, but the majority of third party stuff really..

That black myth wukong is a great example; it looks so good in so many ways, but as soon as anything moves fast the image crumbles. The edge of geometry or particles, especially when paired with DoF get extremely "crispy" and smeared. I find it so distracting and ugly.

Played a few hours of Avatar and it does look great but the water is seriously distracting even on max settings as the surface seems to move like the physics have been sped up 10x.

Alex Baklava has confirmed that the pixel counts for GTA6 show reconstruction from 1440p native. And in one shot, slightly lower than that. They seem to be using FSR. So 4k FSR quality.

I am so fucking happy devs are not targeting native 4k anymore and are actually using the fucking tflops to push visual fidelity. Fucking insomniac just left 60% of the gpu just sitting there. wasted it in order to chase native 4k. Fucking amateurs. if ND does it with their next game......

If the Pro is indeed 70-100% more powerful, we should get native 4k on the pro anyway. Big fuck up my MS to skip mid gen refresh this gen. Absolutely retarded wasting money on a Series S and then skipping the one thing their hardcore gaming fans want.

P.S Alex said he wont be playing this game just because its not on PC. Imagine being a fanboy so bad you skip arguably the biggest game of all time because its not on your favorite hardware.

I always thought RTGI is the same as real time GI so I always got confused when I saw people using both terms when talking about lighting and reflections like “this game uses RTGI and real time GI” and I always went “huh, arent they the same thing?” Lol.
It's because marketing departments have purposly muddied the waters for the term "RT". It supposed to mean Raytraced but those clever assholes have lately been using it to suggest that when they really mean Realtime. Which for all we know could and probably refers to a far coarser voxel probe solution.

With GTA6 its raytraced.....the good stuff.

Seriously. Lower res with more stable taa looks way better than fsr2 crap

So RTGI, RT reflections, NO RT Shadows. Looks realtime, not pre-rendered but those tiktok scenes might be pre-rendered. 4k FSR quality so 1440p internal. No RT reflections on large bodies of water. RT reflections have SSR fallbacks.

That last part tells me that the series S version will likely have no RT which also bodes well for a performance mode on the PS5 and XSX. The only question is just how intensive the NPC cpu simulations really are. Its one thing to render all those people in strip clubs and in the beaches, another thing altogether to shoot up the place and have them all react. I remember playing GTA4 DLC episodes on my PC and i was maxing out at 40 fps despite having a pretty decent modern CPU back in 2010 or 2011 and a GPU 8x more powerful than the PS3.
The hair sim alone rules out any chance for a performance mode.

Really want a PC version from the get go as well but 4.5 years wait. No chance... even at 30fps no way going to wait that long to play the game.

If you have a PS5/XSX could just deal with it and sell on after completion. And rebuy on Steam years later with all the bells and whistles and mods.. thats what I'm going to do.

The trailer is running in 4k fsr quality mode and looks phenomenal enough that everyone in this thread has gone from suicidal to optimistic. If you stick with the 30 fps mode, it will be fine.

I think i made the right decision to upgrade my PC at the start of the gen instead of waiting till mid or late gen like i usually do. have you played RDR2 on PC? the input lag and the general cumbersome feel from the 30 fps console versions is still there. rockstar just loves that kind of weighty feeling. its why every GTA game since GTA4 has had that feel especially when driving cars. i dont think its 30 fps, more a design feature because Rockstar designers are stubborn as fuck.

I had to stop playing RDR 2 (PS4) because of the input lag. I can deal with 30fps on some console titles but the sluggish controls, in addition to 30fps killed my enjoyment of the game.

keep watching. get to when he starts talking about the world level of detail and the flying segments. This is just him showing the GI and shadows on areas that dont get direct sunlight.

And yes, youtube kills the detail and colors we see on our screens. you said water looks excellent in these clips but it is the worst thing about this game. Looks just a vaseline covered mess because of RT artifacts. Probably because its always moving in streams and the stagnant pools of water probably look better, but this is just another example that youtube can be misleading.

I'm with you in this one, really don't find anything next gen or impressive about it.

Don't think its the HDR, I play all games on SDR, and if a game is impressive, its so on every mode.

Maybe we need to play more of it, but I really don' t know.

Have you seen the gifs ive posted? Cant you tell that the lighting, foliage density, draw distance and lighting is a step above horizon fw?

So according to you, Alan Wake II's visuals are wildly overrated, Avatar looks like "King Kong on the 360", but Forspoken looks incredible and The Last of Us Part II still looks better than all these other modern AAA games.

I never said forspoken looks better than anything. I always only said I like how it looks for the most part with HDR.
That said - forspoken does some cool stuff. Luminous engine has some good looks at times.

AW2 is overrated city as a game. I complain about it's shitty graphics on ps5. On pc it's a different story. For Avatar, I don't have my opinion fully formed yet. The parts later in vid with interactivity was great like SlimySnake SlimySnake pointed out. The vid from F Falc67 also looked better.

We can all talk about the IQ issues of AW2, whether or not Avatar looks better than UE5's electric dreams demo, or even Spiderman 2's lack of a asset quality upgrades, but i dont think ive played this many gorgeous titles back to back since maybe 2018 when SOTC, GOW, Detroit, Spiderman 2, and RDR2 came out.

Starfield, Forza, Spiderman 2, AW2, and now Avatar, just amazing stuff. Such a huge upgrade from last year when HFW came out at the start of the year and nothing came even remotely close to it. Its a shame I fell for the underwhelming Callisto reviews and previews because I wouldve had a much more positive view of last year if I had played it day one.

I wouldnt recommend you go spend $70 on this. I dont think its a particularly great game so far. Decent enough but worth $70 only if you like ubisoft quality games. But you have a 3080. Just spend $15 if you just want to sample the visuals. You will see plenty of cool visuals in the first five hours.

yeah my 3080 is not out of commission :p the vram crisis is kinda over in games now.

Part 2 looks great in cutscenes, in gameplay even ac mirage looks better dude
 
Hellblade 2. After seeing that last night, nothing looks remotely as good, nothing. They honestly should have saved it for the end because every other game looked generations behind after seeing it.

Yeah... this combat looks fucking sublime. Shit looks tailor made to fit my tastes.
Trigger warning for Lethal and Gymwolf but that looks straight up CG. wtf.

They have increased the number of takedowns but combat looks the same as the first. It was also cinematic but basically a 1v1 game with very limited mobility and parrying mechanics that bored me to death after the first few hours. I was hoping for some more moves and a slightly more pulled back camera to let you handle multiple enemies.

I've seen those, and I've said it before, some parts look gorgeous, and yeah that first gif of yours looks amazing, but then there are parts like the one ones rofif rofif posted, and those look really dated or a bit on the boring side.
For the comparison with Horizon, just the clouds in HFW for me are above anything in Avatar, don't know what, they just look so delicious, they way they move and look, so good, even in HZD.

I know I may come off as a hater, but I'm really not, it's just my opinion, just as others have a bad or mid opinion about CP 2077, this is my take on Avatar.

I’ve only watched the video like twice. Graphics look great, but either they’re uploading subpar 4k vids to their channel, or they need to reduce whatever settings are making it look so blurry. That’s been my main problem with every trailer posted so far.
