EXCLUSIVE | Microsoft plans Starfield launch for PlayStation 5

Serious question......is Starfield (as a core game) any good to where PS5 owners should even care about this?

No its heavily disappointing if you'd expect a Skyrim in space. Its much more limited than that. Small areas broken up by loading screens, space travel that is pretty much fake. I'd rather play Mass Effect. Or No Mans Sky for space travel.

No it doesn’t. Console gamers are NOT pC gamers…. Tho the Xbox crowd might be about to prove that wrong.

I can’t bring myself to buy a PS. It’s not even because of Sony. I think they are a wonderful company. It’s the insuffarable PlayStation fanboy. They have always been a nasty breed and now they get the last laugh. I just can’t bring myself to own one because I don’t want to join them 🤣🤣🤣….. steam….. I guess I’m going all in with you and Gabes posse. At least l can still use my Xbox relics ( the controller)

PS2 had no competition.

Well, I mean, it did, but I get exactly what you're saying. Alternative platforms existed, they just had no real presence for the most part compared to PS2.

Basically what other PC launchers/storefronts are to Steam today.

It's actually surreal to see Microsoft going third party. As a Playstation fan I'm happy to see these games becoming available on PS5, but I think the industry is for the better when Sony has competition.

Still don't see why people keep saying this is needed for PlayStation, but never for Nintendo, or Valve for that matter. Apparently they can "do their own thing" and don't need a neck-in-neck competitor to keep them delivering what audiences want, but PlayStation does?

Look just say you want Xbox consoles to stick around. It's alright to say it. I don't even necessarily want the hardware to go away either, despite my at-times harsh criticisms of the platform and Microsoft.

But I also know its existence isn't necessary for PlayStation to keep doing well or to do even better. That said, I don't think Xbox hardware is going anywhere. I just don't think the business model for them is going to be anything like the current or previous systems, it won't be a traditional console at all.

Best 6/10 game I’ve ever played then. Still playing. Gaf seems to agree though. Top 5 in 2023.

Awesome. That's great. I remember The Thief game came out in like 2014 and everyone hated. Till this day it's one of the best pure stealth games I've ever played. You had to play pure steal though because anything else is when you started to see the flaws in the game that became to much to enjoy it.

Witcher 3 is one of the most beloved games in the industry and I think it's garbage and prefer Witcher 2 over it.

Come on, stop it, don't you know we have to pretend Nintendo and PC don't exist for the sake of "competition"?
It's the incompetent guy with infinite pockets that no one wants that's saving us from... a price increase of hardware on consoles. So in order not to buy a playstation for $600, it's better to buy 2 consoles for $500 each... wait... nevermind...

The joys of player choice. I, for example, think TotK is a painfully boring game. I also find games like Satisfactory oddly addicting, yet after 150+ hours in it I can't even explain it to others without myself being bored listening to my explanation of the game, yet... keep playing it. To each their own.

Klob spent years making fake bullshots marketing material for the worlds richest conglomerate by market cap. He's one of those shill types that really and truly believed these empty suits gave a fuck about him as opposed to their stock price.
Time for you to do the same thing.

Starfield about to be a pretty good game on GAF. Maybe goty material.

Now people will admit it’s a good game.

This is about to get annoying. From both Xbox fanboys and Playstation fanboys. Starfield is NOT a bad game. It's like a 82 on Metacritic. It's fine! It's just not GOTY. And it's sure as heck ain't GOTG worthy that many were expecting. But it's a fine to good game depending on your like for Bethesda games.

As if Sony killed Sega lol. They only said wait for the PS2 if you want the best gaming experience. Sega bailed essentially in the weeks Sony launched its console in the west. Sega killed their hardware prematurely over and over, Sony kept supporting the PS1. If anything Sega was too shitty and too clueless to be sustainable in this business. But everything regarding this is well documented.

Sony does one thing right, and that is they generally don't stray too far and they keep supporting their hardware. PS3 had excellent lead out, unlike 360 and OG Xbox was killed off quickly. Sony didn't go all in on the motion control hype.

Agreed, and I say this (like you) as a fan of classic SEGA. How the narrative "Sony killed SEGA" gained traction last year will never not be funny to me.

I don't feel sorry for the Xbox fanatics like PeterOvo. They're the ones worth watching have the meltdowns.

Yeah the genuine Xbox fans who were otherwise non-toxic towards other console brands, I feel for them to a degree. Although I still think Xbox hardware isn't "going" anywhere, it's probably just going to get a big facelift, so it's not a 1:1 like what happened with SEGA.

But the ones like PeterOvo? They can cry and cope all they want. Maybe they can learn to stop being so toxic online when it comes to gaming...but they'll probably get even worst if anything. At least for the interim.

Now just waiting for Judge's resignation letter 👍

Thought you misquoted at first but nah 🤣. True tho, the backbreaking people are still doing for Spencer in all of this is insane. Tho it seems more of them are going after Satya and Sarah of all people :/

The guy who's been running the division for over 10 years? Nah, they're fine.

Yep and it's why I both kinda do but really don't feel bad about specific Xbox diehards like him and this news. They helped push a really toxic environment online for gaming discourse, and never really spoke out about MS's mistakes with Xbox until it was too late.

Instead they kept trying in so many ways to tell everyone else to shut up. Welp look where that got you :/

Agreed. I played it for about ten hours when it came out and just kind of stopped (I've been in a bit of a dry spell with games in general, nothing exciting me)... This weekend I went back to it, switched to first person from third and really got into it... Would strongly advise playing in that view. Not up there with Fallout 3 yet for me, but I think it's got its hooks in me finally. It's complicated though - so many systems, and upgrades and skills - so I can see why it's not for everyone, in the age of 'mile wide, inch deep' AAAs.

Time. Its about available time. Its not like netflix where you binge a series in one or 2 nights and be done with it. You play some games for 100 hours or more. How much time do we have to do this?

GP doesn't work. Besides that, the absolute best games (ie. right now Tekken 8 and Infinite Wealth receiving rave reviews) aren't even on GP. So you buy these on top of your sub. And since you play those, you likely dont have the time to use your GP sub.

I can't see in what world GP would truly work. Maybe as a strict indie and arcade platform with small games you want to play but don't want to purchase and own. A bit like Apple Arcade.
gameplus is fine if it adopts the premium model similar to PS+ where the exclusives come out a year down the line. I think it could work at a $60 per year or $10 a month.

I totally get how some can score this game a 6-7/10. It’s far from perfect.

That said, that game is perfect for me. Not a perfect game. There’s a difference.
It would have been a 9/10 game if they hadn't completely ruined the exploration aspect. My favorite thing about Skyrim and Fallout was wondering around the map and finding new settlements/factions and getting involved in full blown quest lines. That was completely gone in Starfield and replaced with randomly generated content on planets. That was Starfield's unforgiveable sin for me.
