Xbox One: Details on Connectivity, Licensing (24 hour check-in) and Privacy Features

Can I play my game, guaranteed, 20 years from now provided that I still have the disc and a working console?

No?

Buh-bye, I'll be taking my $5,000 a year elsewhere (including my yearly gold membership and my Creator's Club membership).

Good luck teaching this to the general public out there, what a mess. I'm a fucking nerd and I'm like 'Yeaaaaaaa, hmmm, ehh, no.'

Shouldn't be too hard once someone that isn't trying to put a positive spin on it gets a whack at it. You can see it's very carefully worded for maximum confusion and to "Sound better than it actually is".

•Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

lol

this could be done in such a better way but nope, give up your game forever

So what happens in the future when some of those used games partner retailers are out of business or have changed into something else? How will games be traded? If Microsoft do indeed implement a online trading system, how long is that service able to run?

Whelp, this news is the nail in the coffin for me. If a game I HAVE to play comes out on the XBone I'll just go to a friends house to play it.

Hoping the PS4 doesn't follow the same road, because if it does I might just be relegated to PC and backlog gaming only.

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

No gaming if you cannot connect to the internet for more than 24 hours

Fuck this garbage and PS4 too if it does same.

Just....wow...3 things that stood out.

We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.

* Private sale of used games blocked. You can only trade in your game at "participating" retailers. Don't want to sell it to those places and those places only? Tough shit.

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

* You can only give a game to someone ONCE and they have to have been on your friends list recently even for that to work?

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library.

* Better hope the internet doesn't go down for longer than 60 minutes if you're playing your game on any other console....

No, we already know Sony's has no Online DRM or check-ins.

Publisher shit might be though.

So first party titles will be okay. And it's up to the publishers on 3rd party titles. So stay clear of EA and you'll be fine.

Yeah. The writing is on the wall. I doubt MS will do this without having Sony doing it. They will be giving away too much competitive advantage.

That is the worst part about all of this. It could potentially be a little less restrictive on Sony's side, however, the video game industry as we know it today is changing.

If i was microsoft, I would have spun it during the conference, talked about all the GOOD things about being always online, and the used limitations.

At least then it would go away, now it's a giant STORM of anger.

Who ever is working for microsoft's marketing department seriously needs to be fired

Fuck this garbage. The only thing making me reconsider would have been if M had made this console powerful. It didn't and it can rightfully fuck of like it always has. Never liked Microsoft and I never will. Win 7 is nice though.

Now hold on guys maybe we're jumping the gun here and we'll get more details after E3 or nearer to the system launch, or maybe a little later, don't want to jump to any crazy conclusions!!!

Please help me with my bad english
I except Sony to implement a similar system. It probably third parties who wanted this and I don't see Sony not succombing to the pressure of losing key partnerships to Microsoft.

What do you mean this isn't bad? It pretty much confirmed what we expected.

1. Xbone requires a internet connection. If you don't check in within 24 hours, your system is essentially locked.

2. You can not borrow or rent games.

3. You CAN trade your games to friends but they must be on your friends list and once you trade it, it gets tied to their account. You can only trade the game ONE time.

4. Publishers will have the ability to block you from selling/trading the game.

Just because they worded it differently doesn't make it better.

Exactly. They're trying to make it sound like it's soooooo reasonable when really it's the same bullshit we've been fearing.

Don't follow suit, Sony! DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE!!

No private sales? I'm officially out.

If Sony does this, the same thing applies.

There is just no way I can see myself getting xbone'd like this. What a shame.

Gamefly is my buddy and I don't want to give 'em up.

Can anyone parse out what the 10 family members thing is? I am guessing it means that 10 accounts on 1 box will be able to access the games otherwise what is stopping 10 friends from sharing their library? Maybe all 10 family members can have different boxes but must be on the same live account.

There's just no good reason not to allow consumers to play single player games offline for as long as they want.

There's simply no way to spin that.

Well played MS, you've never made it easier for Sony to take my money.

Fuck you and your bullshit restrictions. Fuck your paywalls for basic features.

Fuck you.

I can't wait to see the Wal-Mart crowd with this. It's worse than trying to explain to one of these people how to use the App store on their $99 iPhone they are so proud of...

Going to be some great comedy.

Lol that's ridic. It probably means accounts on the same system.

(How does it know that?)

I'm just saying, they're not gonna let us do it with 10 random people on our friends list for sure.

Mind you, it's still the best thing about all this new info.

Joe Public aren't going to read all these rules and regulations, when little Johnny wants to trade in his games, his mom is going to get very angry in the store! lol

This is actually what I've been thinking of the most. We've been focusing on this MS rulebook for weeks and even then some things are still unclear.
How are they going to inform the general public? This is a complete mess. A lot of people are going to buy this system, not having read the small print.

I'm in the middle of a move right now, no internet for a week until I can get TWC to come. You're telling me I wouldn't be able to play disc based games for a week. Screw you M$. If Sony pulls this shit I won't be buying either.

Well they've made a lot of concessions after the backlash.

The almost-always online thing sucks major ass though.

Not that bad, certainly not a gamebreaker. Being able to play my games anywhere is a huge plus as I travel all the time. All in all, the publishers are going to limit rentals and used games as much as they can in the upcoming generation so keep that in mind.
