So since we have established the concept is ok with you from a consumer rights perspective as long as the value is there for you, if MS has decent sales and prices, you would be ok with this?
That's pretty much what I was saying.
In my head each game has a price threshold where I'm willing to pay $X for the experience of playing the game. I'm not a collector and don't replay games hardly ever, so I don't view it as buying a physical good as I have no intention of keeping the game disc anyway.
Now I can get to that price X by waiting for deals, or buying and playing near launch and selling while the value is still high, maybe even get under it if I get a deal and sell it for a good price etc.
If I could get close to X in a digital game purchase, then I'd be all for it as it would save me the hassle of listing the game to sell, packing it and shipping it etc.
I get how much digital distribution sucks for collectors. But for people who just sell off every game, DD could be a great thing if prices were great like on Steam as we end up spending about the same amount of money and don't have to hassle with getting rid of game case and disc after beating it.
The problem is I don't see prices on consoles being anything like Steam this generation if ever.
I do dislike the 24 hour checks though, as I'd like to be able to play the games if my internet was down. But I can't recall the last time my internet was down for more than a couple hours anyway--other than power outages when it would be a moot point anyway. And I haven't had any power outages of great than 24 hours lately anyway as I'm in a high rise in a nice part of a city--wires are mostly buried and it's one of the first areas to get restored when power gets knocked out.
