So I just got on, read the first page, read page 52, what is general sentiment been like for this thread? The first page has several "I guess that's reasonable", "not as shit as before", etc. replies, then clicked Last Page (which was 52 at the time) and it's the opposite. Did something happen or just more clarity?

I'm not sure what to think, personally. It's better than before but "publishers can enable trade-in for their games" has me skeptical. I don't care about the 24 hour check and I don't loan games to friends, but trading-in/reselling is important.

Will Xbox One games be $35 to pre-order? Will they drop to $5 within 6 months? I doubt it.
Not to be a stickler but pre-orders are $35 only when GMG has one of their awesome coupon codes going. They're still $49.99-59.99 on Steam. And they don't drop to $5 in 6 months unless the game is just a total bomb.

I reckon Sony will have anti-used games but they will leave it up to pubs. I can image EA blackmailing Sony by not releasing FIFA/Battlefield etc on the PS4 unless they have the same anti-used DRM as MS. I want to be proven wrong!

Man i wish everyone just stuck with online passes compared to this bullshit we are getting now, it was literally the perfect compromise.

So basically as i think a lot of us feared. Steam without the aggressive pricing. And the ball remains in Sony's court...
It's a transitional phase to a DD-only future, a few years down the line. The aggressive pricing can't come while DD is competing with retail.

So I just want to double check something.

When I sell my games, I do it through Ebay, Half.com, or Amazon... Would I still be able to do that? No?

Forgetting all the other onerous shit, any kind of required internet check-in means you don't own your games anymore. You're just renting them from the publishers for 6 years or so and then when the authentication servers get taken offline, you're shit out of luck.

Fuck Microsoft and the publishers pushing this shit. If Sony follows suit, I'll happily switch to being a PC only gamer.

Exactly. Game collectors get fucked big time.

Ugh I've noticed a trend for the "legit" supporters. It really seems that most anyone who's ok with this that isn't a MS viral, does so because it doesn't affect them. That's all well and good but can you think about other people for once?

Almost certainly this will be one of two things.

1. It's entirely up to the user, and people will have a reason not to put their friends on because of annoying limitations like "only one person in the family can play from the shared library at a time".

2. All the family members' accounts have to use the same credit card.

Can anyone think of anything else they'd realistically do?

Im thinking something like this:

-I buy an XBO
-Up to 10 members of my family has to create their account on my XBO
-They are then free to go over anyone elses house and, using their account credentials, they can log in.
-MS servers with check their account against my XBO and let them the games registered to it.

I dont know for sure but that kind makes sense to me. Theyre careful by saying "family" which makes me think theres going to be something there to verify family members.

I pray to god it's number 2 as it would be abused to high heaven which means it's likely 1. That said, most games are short as hell. This system is going to get abused.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Hidden PR shills. "The Bish List" is coming out.

Microsoft knows that when they show some awesome exclusives many will either forget about this shit or choose to go along with it.

That would be so if there wasn't a several hundred dollar piece of shit piece of hardware required to play them on!
For many (including me) the hardware, literally everything about it, including the anti-consumer policies means that all the games in the world won't tempt me to buy into it.
Putting squirty cream on a dick doesn't make it an iced finger, tbh.

This sounds really tricky and complex for the average joe. Lots of limitations, seems a contract not a console....
Basically most of the already known things were confirmed but as a positive I see that at least they're trying to be more neutral as a first party game publisher compared to what we initially thought.
Still third publishers are free to completely block used games or decide for whatever fee they like.

Damn if rentals are gone, games should either be on sale all the time, or drop in price much faster like they do on Steam.

I've said and continue to say this online, people don't listen.
As soon as the platform is closed, as soon as the ONLY way to buy stuff is through their direct stores (MS or Sony) then you will not see sales or you will see very very infrequent sales with very moderate reductions.

It's GOING to happen and people will be pissed.
If you're a bargain gamer like myself (near 50 PS3 games, avg price probably 30$ - but all new) - you're boned.

I dreamed that Sony wouldn't charge for playing games online, and I enjoyed my free online gaming on the PS3 for 7 years.

Here's dreaming that it continues for the PS4 and beyond.

Yeah, we were told for 7 years that Sony would follow MS steps and make us pay for online gaming and here we are 7 years later and it's still free. So please no "Sony will do this, Sony will do that too". We've been burned before.

Looks like the strategies are different after all.

I'll quote myself from a few pages back.

Seriously, this can't be said enough.

Why would anybody in their right mind think that Microsoft would cut out used games--something that would usually cost them a sale or two--and then replace it with something that would literally cost them NINE immediate sales?

It makes absolutely no sense.

I was sitting here trying to figure out how this is legal, and I think I've got it... and if I'm right, it's genius, in a way, if pretty reprehensible too.

It's the cloud. Have cloud functionality? Suddenly you're not selling a product, you're providing a service. And it's quite reasonable to restrict how a service is consumed and transferred, when that's not the case with the product.
The great thing about digital services? They're anything you say they are, and whatever you say they are can be changed at any time.

How would they know if is a family member or not?

I'd assume it just means you can make up to 10 profiles for each Live account. So you'd just make a profile for everyone in your family, and any of them logging in would be good to access any games in your game library.

Only part I'd argue is about trade in value going down because of less competition.

Trade in value will go down because Gamestop and other "Authorized" retailers will be passing on whatever fee is involved in becoming an "Authorized retailer" to the consumer in the form of lower trade in values, and higher used game prices.

So whats the salary over at MS?
Good benefits?

Sorry don't work for MS. I don't support it, but the publishers will. I say it again Sony can say we don't have any DRM restrictions but the publishers can choice what restrictions they want. What do you think will happen then? I don't give me the question but if Sony say, we don't allow any DRM restrictions at all. No, we are all sitting in the same boat.

My guess is that the sub family member accounts won't be able to register their own individual games, i.e. anything they register will go to the shared account which will effectively make this useless even for real families like mine that have multiple consoles or kids that go away to school if 2 people in a family can't simultaneously being playing a game on 2 different consoles.
