Hyper Light Drifter looks really cool. I'm a big fan of Beau Blyth, I recommend any who hasn't go check out his previous games. Especially Action Fist, Fish Face, and Shoot First.

No doubt this next game will be great. Also the art style seems to resmble Transistor, or rather what Transistor would look like if it was in pixel art. Except less sci-fi and more fantasy I suppose.

Welcome back, More_Badass.

Also you guys, Dascu's done some great work with Malebolgia over the past few days. Really liking how it's shaping up at the moment.

That sinking feeling.

I need to get more progression on Malebolgia, still only have found 1 Fire right now. Sent some feedback to Dascu.

Freebie worth downloading: Ninjah
http://chrismingay.co.uk/ninjah/#

Get from A to B as quickly as possible with the help of your ninja rope and ninja jetpack. However, there is a snag. You may only come in to contact with blocks the same colour as Ninjah, else it’s POP and you have to start again. To help combat this, you can change colour by bumping in to the corresponding checkered blocks. Good luck!

Ninjah is a remake (what a lot of people would call a HD REMAKE….) of the 2007 freeware version of Ninjah which I also made. It was originally released on Xbox 360 via XBLIG for 80 MS Points (where it is still available if that floats your boat) followed by a standalone release for PC as well as via Desura and the Ubuntu Software Centre for between $0.99 and $2.99. It is now available for free.

ninjah-shot_2-1024x576.png

I never knew there was a remake of the freeware version, but that one was fantastic. So if you've never played Ninjah before, I recommend trying it now. Also the dev is working on Ninjah 2

Pixel Boy
Site
Trailer
Greenlight

The game is an Action RPG Shooter which takes place in randomly generated dungeons that increase in difficulty and change design based on how deep the player has progressed in the dungeon. The game is extremely challenging and score based, If the player die's they are allowed to continue from the dungeon level they reached, although this will sacrifice your score.

The most unique element to the game is the Power Ups that Pixel Boy can collect can be combined in a variety of ways. Currently there are over 200 Unique weapon combinations that Pixel Boy can create by combining the 15 Different Power Ups. Power Ups of the same type can also be combined with each other, this will result in stronger versions of that Power Up type and combining certain power up combinations will lead to weapons that are more useful against specific enemies.

Gunpoint 50% off on Steam... worth it? I mean, it's probably worth it from what I hear, but I have such an absurd backlog. Is it worth jumping to the front or should I wait for the fall/Thanksgiving sale?

I'd wait for the next big Sale. I think Gunpoint was $6 or $7 during the Summer Sale.

Oh, and Dascu, sorry for the belated Malebolgia impressions. Between other games, school work, and stuff around the house, haven't been able to give the demo the time needed for an honest critique. I'll have that up later today

I don't know long Sang Froid will be on sale, so if you're on the fence, here are my impressions:
So Sang Froid is excellent. Behind the stylized look is a tense game that mixes tower defense elements, strategic combat, and the scariest wolves since The Grey

Each chapter is another night, as you defend your isolated home from the packs of demonic wolves and werewolves. You alone, in the dark, cold wilderness with only your rifle and axe and various traps to protect you

Each night consists of two phases. The planning phase is a top down map in which you can see what enemies are coming each wave, their path, and their stregths and weaknesses, and set traps accordingly. The action phase is where the fun begins

You must balance your stamina and watch the fear level of the wolves surrounding you. Your rifle fires one shot at a time, takes like 20 second to reload, and you're stationary while aiming. Traps must be triggered at the right time and enemies must be lured into range. All these factors combined make each night a very intense, very difficult challenge

It is heart pounding to be reloading your rifle as the pack circles around you, eyes glinting in the torch light, as one prepares to attack and you don't know if you have enough time to get the shot ready...

Sang Froid is well worth your time. I haven't tried the more difficult setting, in which you play a different character, but there's that options for more replay value.

Ooh, this is nice. Especially since the website hosting the original 2007 version went down last I'd checked, and my virus scanner absolutely hates the copy on my hard drive to the extent that the EXE is completely missing without me telling it to delete it.

Oh some other stuff about Sang Froid:
- Voice acting is horrendous to the point of being hilarious. So it's a pro and con at the same time. I just skip all the cutscenes

- The initial load up is really really really long. Like at least a minute and half. All the other loading is fine

- There are skills and upgrades to purchase and level up. So even more strategy

25 more games Greenlit, including SuperHOT, Candle, Dusty Revenge, Valdis Story AC, Mount Your Friends, and more

Seems like they've really started to speed this process up. Works for me. Still waiting for them to fix the discovery portion of Greenlight, though.

I couldn't believe that I hadn't seen this yet considering how often I'm on the site, but Indie Statik is running a Kickstarter, mostly to go full-time to be able to reach a point where they're self-sufficient and widen the breadth of their content with a Youtube show. Fortunately (unlike every other Kickstarter I've bitched about in here lately) they seem to have a solid understanding of tiers, rewards, and stretch goals, and overall it's a pretty nice campaign. I chipped in $10, and encourage anyone else who frequents the site to do the same.

Emailed the Windforge dev, pre-orders will available soon

Doesn't this sound awesome? (From Destructoid)
The demo I saw started out with my character on a sky ship, which players will be able to build for themselves. On the ship were crafting stations where I could refine down raw materials that I mined and then assemble into finished tools and building supplies. Mining is fast since it's done using a jackhammer, so it's not a huge hassle to gather up resources.

The ship can be flown around anywhere on the giant map, and the planned game world is going to be huge. There are three different levels to the world, all of them set in the sky. The lowest level is filled with poisonous gas and players will have to build air filters before exploring it.

The middle level -- where the demo was set -- was full of little islands to explore and Skywhales, which are what they sound like: giant whales that fly. These creatures are a source of oil and can be used as fuel.

Some more gameplay:
Meteor storm escape

And I love that the art style is something different than pixel or voxel graphics

Day One: Garry's Incident is up for preorder on Steam ($14.99).

One Upon Light http://youtu.be/ZchVJG9cN7U

One Upon Light
is a monochromatic top-down puzzle game with a photophobic protagonist. Trapped in a world of shifting shadows and light, players manipulate objects in the environment to create a path of shadows and avoid contact with light.

The game utilizes unique mechanics revolving around the central theme of light and shadow. The protagonist’s past is incrementally hinted at as the player progresses through the game.

Available for: Windows/Mac
Expected release date: Early 2014

Reception
“…it’s a nice change to play more with shadows than with light”

Framed http://youtu.be/sQetrrlg1jk

Framed is a novel, dramatic, panel-shifting game experience where every panel tugs on the outcome of the story. Presented as a storyboard, each panel depicts an important action/event. Players must rearrange the order of the panels to change the delivery and outcome of the narrative. With each action framed by the last, context is everything.

Framed will be available in 2013 across multiple platforms including PC/Mac, tablets and phones.

Anyone pick up Ironclad Tactics today? I'm tempted to get it, but my game plate is rather full right now. I'd like to read some impressions even though I'm sure it's good.

VALKYRIUS

It has a really neat teleportation mechanic that keeps the game fresh and it has a variety of weapons. Kind of reminds me of Radiant Silvergun, but without as much polish. This and Danmaku Unlimited 2 need to get on STEAM. DM2's soundtrack still makes me want to flip cars over with my bare hands.

Good news!

AdventurOS crowd funding campaign was successful. They managed to raise $21,323 and their goal was $10,000. Also the game is position #55 on Greenlight.

First Apotheon gameplay

http://www.alientrap.org/games/apotheon
Along with a large single player campaign in a massive open world Mount Olympus, Apotheon will include online multiplayer with deathmatch and team based gamemodes.

From IndieGames preview:
The combat system is deceptively deep, despite looking relatively simple. Yes, your warrior can swing his sword. Where he swings it, however, is entirely dependent on where you're pointing the mouse. If you want to swing at someone's midsection, hold the mouse at that height. If you want to swing down at a dog, or maybe at someone's knees, hold the cursor toward the bottom of the screen. The reverse applies if you wish to swing upward. It's a subtle detail, but it goes a long way in making combat an engaging, interactive experience that's more than just click-to-win.

You'll need to make good use of your shield. If an enemy takes a swing or shoots an arrow in your direction, boosting your shield is a good way to avoid taking damage. There's also a bow and arrow, so there's an option for ranged combat for those who mostly prefer to stay out of the fray. You can and will need to pick up weapons from fallen enemies, since yours will wear down and break after lengthy use. It's adds a nice, unobtrusive touch of item management that reinforces the need to target your strikes. More accurate attacks means your weapons should theoretically last longer.

The game follows a level-based setup, though you'll be able to select which one you wish to tackle at your leisure through the central hub area. It's close to being finished, and Alientrap is planning on a Steam release for Windows in January or February. Mac and Linux versions are planned to follow.

I'm going to pick it up once I get the chance to. Although deep in the GTA hole at the moment.

Just FYI if anyone plans on getting it. In the UK region at least it is worth buying from the humble store directly, the exchange knocks off a good few pound off the default steam asking price.

Fract OSC Beta invite get.

Well I guess Ironclad Tactics will have to wait a bit longer because State of Decay is apparently releasing tomorrow on Steam Early Access. I held out on the XBLA release because of bugs and preferring to play it on PC so I'm definitely ready for this.

hell yeah!
You guys are in for a treat. I got it day one on XBLA and it's fantastic. A bit janky but that doesn't detract from the overall game

If you want to prepare yourself, here's my "Oh Shit" Moments thread from the Undead Labs forum.

I bought it yesterday and I've already put in six hours. It's incredibly fun. So many interesting card mechanics. You can build some really cool specialized decks.

I really want to get that game right now. I can't help but think of Card Hunter x Iron Brigade x Plants vs. Zombies when I see it.

Controls are really strange, having a hard time wrapping my head around them.

Yeah, any time I play an isometric game like this I always need a period of adjustment to the controls.

Sounds good! I'm normally not one for card games these days, but something about the combination of premise, types of units, and fond memories of being really into card games when I was younger makes me want to give it a whirl.

New Windforge info (it's kind of like my most anticipated game right now)

Hey, this week we have another Windforge video from Pax to show off. This one shows off a special region in the world called the Luftart. It has upwards rising air and periodic eruptions of deadly fireballs. Check it out:

Video

The Luftart is a region formed from the hot air rising from the core of the world. It can be especially dangerous for travelers, because sometimes the core will also release fireballs along this giant column of air. Check out the map below to see where it’s located in the world (it’s the vertical region right in the middle.)

WorldMap.jpg

These fireballs are actually the origin of the meteors found in the upper atmosphere. The fireballs get ejected into space and then rain back down into the upper atmosphere. Luckily the fireballs tend to burn up and break apart during their travels so they tend to be a lot smaller when they rain back down into the world.

The fireballs can occasionally get very big. Check out the screen shot below to see what I mean. That large one on the right can easily destroy most ships in one hit.

GiantFireball-1024x573.jpg

Most of the world won’t be this challenging. The Luftart can be easily avoided if you don’t mind going the long way around. If you do need to travel through the Luftart, there are effective strategies for survival, but I’ll let you figure those out when you play.

Race The Sun is in dire straits.
http://indiegames.com/2013/09/losing_steam_-_race_the_sun_a_.html

Here's where the story gets a bit discouraging. In our launch month, we've sold 771 copies, or about $7,400 worth.

Sales have fallen off pretty steadily as the media attention has died down. Our worst day came last week, at 2 copies sold.

Got the game earlier this week, actually before reading this. I'm enjoying it, it's challenging, and visual style is cool and unique. There's some great user content and an amazing sense of speed. The balance between close calls, evading shadows, dodging obstacles, and swapping out upgrades to suit your gameplay form an exhilarating mix of fast paced high score near miss action. And procedural generation is always cool

Same here! Reminds me of a game I use to play in the day (Project Nomad? Or something) where you had a floating island. The game was buggy as hell. But the stages were pretty big and was one of the first 'multiple ways to complete' game for me.

State of Decay is on Steam
http://store.steampowered.com/app/241540/

Get it, don't hesitate. It's worth the $20. I have it on 360. My favorite XBLA game, even more than Mark of the Ninja

While it's an Early Access, it's not unfinished. It's basically the same as the console version, with the first three updates, but no KB/M controls
The game itself, in terms of content, is completely finished. Our Steam players are getting the first three patches (known as Title Updates to Xbox players) rolled right in from the get go. If you want to play with a controller, you are getting a fully finished game and we think it's worth the twenty dollars. If you want to play with the finished keyboard interface, please wait until the finished version launches.

Also, launch issues are here

Reminder: Early Access means things may go wrong. Early Access is not for people who dislike games in testing. We appreciate very much all of you who have chosen to throw in with us and play knowing there are issues. Here are the issues you should be aware of for today:

Display issues:

Games UI does not display well in 4:3 aspect ratio
The 480p setting under 16:9 incorrectly sets to 480p at 3:2 which strangely looks extremely similar to 4:3.
If you accidentally set your display settings to something your system doesn't support, delete your user.cfg file.
Map identifiers can appear cut off at the edge of the screen in 1080p
We incorrectly will put up a warning that the GeForce GTX 275 is an unsupported card
Steam UI - Interaction outside 'Big Picture' mode will require keyboard and mouse.
The keyboard and mouse are not configured for the title at this time. If you are curious and patient you can find what buttons are currently mapped to what. It...makes for creative gameplay?
Graphical anomalies will occur, outline around characters in certain lighting, shadows can appear corrupted during certain times of day.
Our min-spec video cards mentioned will run, however expect around 15fps on the Intel HD 3000 and the Radeon HD 2600 XT. The GeForce 9600 GSO runs fairly close to 30fps.
The publisher/developer movies that play at launch, will not be visible when running dual monitors.

Gameplay and client

Vehicle physics are a little light compared to the console version.
The zombie eyes appear a more greenish hue.
The loot system is a bit different, and still getting retuned.
Vehicle headlights in the game appear annoyingly bright
Exiting after you play can cause a crash. Use the task manager to close the game.
If you are cycling through the leaderboards, you may crash.

Audio

Some voiceovers will not be audible. (Setting up an outpost, some survivors who to join you, etc.)
Music is missing from the front end main menu.
