I liked the new iMac, I am tempted to buy one but my issue is the 8gigs of ram, I assume the M1 chip does not need much ram? ... that is my only issue, not knowing if 8gigs is future proof.

The M1 can't magically make programs manage memory better. If you do heavy professional work (video editing, etc...) then I'd wait until they have models which target that crowd. Probably safe if you do web browsing/email/etc...
