Arnold confirms he tricked Sly into making ‘Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!’

There’s an old urban legend that Arnold tricked Stallone into making the flop “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!” back when the two had the big action movie rivalry.

Sly gave a great interview to THR and they got Arnold to confirm it’s true:

Or Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot was supposed to be like Throw Momma From the Train with the mom as this really nasty piece of work. Instead you hire the nicest woman in Hollywood, Estelle Getty, who you wish was your mother. That’s the end of that! Also, I had heard Schwarzenegger was going to do that movie and I said, “I’m going to beat him to it.” I think he set me up.

[We reached out to Schwarzenegger to ask if he could confirm this decades-old rumor that he feigned interest in Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot in hopes of luring his box office competitor into making a huge flop: “It’s 100% true,” Schwarzenegger wrote. “In those days we did all kinds of crazy things to get ahead in our rivalry. Luckily for us and everyone else, today, we root for each other. Thank God, because we sure don’t ever need another Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.”]

By the way, both Arnold and Sly are older today than Estelle Getty was in Stop or mom will shoot.

This makes me think is our generation aging better ? Because shit a lot of the older gen looked old as fuck for their age.

Or is it because we’re older so people don’t look so old ?

Of course we were ageing better.

Better food, more exercise, way less smokers, better healthcare/medicine in general, somewhat better working conditions (debatable, but still), etc.

I really enjoy rewatching that movie. It has some great comedic moments. If that is Stallone's worst than he got one over on Arnold. Arnold's own Hercules in New York (1970), Junior (1994), and End of Days (1999) are all infinitely worse and have no redeeming qualities. Just thinking about those sends a shiver down the back of my spine.

Stallone wrote Rocky. I don't think Arnold has ever picked up a pen. I Don't think Arnold is nearly as creative as Stallone. Arnold might be more driven as he was Mr. Universe and came from nothing and not knowing English to the greatest action star.

Both are great.
I would rather watch an Arnold movie or a Stallone movie any day of the week.

Never saw the Mama movie. Sounds so bad it'll probably end up being good.

Arnie's Jungle All The Way got bad reviews. I thought it was hilarious.

Stallone is more consistent. Especially later in life while the best Arnold can get is direct to video roles, Stallone is still trying to turn out quality. Can’t wait for Tulsa King and hell I’ll watch his reality show:

That may be true, but I find Arnold's movies more fun and enjoyable. Besides, T2 is one of my favorite movies of all time.

While those girls are hot and I know "reality TV" is anything but, I'd still be ashamed to put my daughters out there like that. At least have them wear glasses and hold a book so they look smart :p

Now a show where Stallone gets his old action film buddies to crash these girls dates and put the guys on the spot would be HILARIOUS!

Stallone can call on Kurt Russel, Dolph Lundgren, Wesley Snipes, ah fuck it, just look at the cast of the Expendables films, and imagine some punk kid thinking he's gonna hook up with an instagram thot and Jean Claude fucking Van Damm shows up to chaperone instead :p

I always liked this film. And Oscar too. Stallone didn't have the magnetic presence of Arnold but he was versatile enough to play these weird roles he sometimes got.

Oscar is friggin' great. That's a bonafide comedy classic in my opinion; I've always laughed my butt to that movie.

Saw this movie in theaters and didn't enjoy it much. But at the time I did like it a lot better than Throw Momma From the Train. I haven't seen either movie since they were in theaters.

After looking at both of their Ibmd page I didn’t realize there were still a few Stallone movies I haven’t seen yet. NightHawks, Tango & Cash, Daylight, Oscar. I’ve seen most of Arnold’s stuff so I’m all good there.
I think the last Arnold movie I enjoyed goes clear back to True Lies in 1994. Still holding out hope for one final Conan move starring Arnold with a hard R rating.

You need to fix that Tango&Cash gap IMMEDIATELY! Daylight was...ehhh, might need to revist that one myself. I recall it just feeling like a lesser Cliffhanger in every respect (Cliffhanger, BTW, with drone cameras now and the ability to edit out safety lines would be an AWESOME concept to revisit with a Tom Cruise-esque "we gonna do it FOR REAL!" attitude).

Nighthawks....whew, thats an old pull even for me. But bearded Stallone is the best Stallone, it is the way.

I need to get Cobra back on the screen again, another semi-forgotten Stallone flick. Pair it with Raw Deal for an equally forgotten Arnie classic :p

Yeah, Tango & Cash somehow slipped through the cracks when I saw a lot of movies on cable back in the 90’s. I’ll remedy that this month!

But this movie is one of those that I love so much. :messenger_crying:
With all the violence that happens in the world and the lives we have, such a movie can brighten your day like Looney Tunes/Tom & Jerry did. :messenger_smiling:
