I doubt it, making it free wouldn't solve anything as the game isn't really filled with micro transactions like old EA games used to be. There are cosmetic skins you can buy but it's all pretty underwhelming stuff.

They would have to overhaul the game to include a bunch of FTP restrictions and progression paths and also somehow think of a way to incentivise people who already paid for the game.

I doubt it goes FTP as the work required for it to make financial sense as a FTP game seems far more difficult than just improving what they already have and adding more content.

That's a great way of milking the allowance out of kids, but you need to a better platform. Regular Battlefield is not it because of the more realistic style with players that enjoy "tacticool" and a more milsim-like experience. The correct answer would have been Battlefield Heroes 2 for all that dumb costume shit.

I paid for the game (with a discount so it came to about $40), wouldn't care if it becomes F2P as long as they keep supporting it.

I'm generally having a good time. What is hurting my enjoyment of the game is the poor performance. I'm running it on a 8600K (no OC) and 3070 and to get measly 40FPS (with a lot of spikes) I need to set it to medium on a 1440P resolution. The CPU is constantly at 100% and the GPU at sub 50%

There was no need to flush anything. People were waiting for a proper BF4 sequel since PS3 ffs. Basically all they needed to do was to release a BF4 "HD" and after that do whatever the F they wanted.
It's not a rocket science, not like 2042 was a 1st game in series made from scratch by a new studio. Hell, there's even 2142 game.

HD re-release it and call it a day...

Did you seriously compare a pvp game to pve games? Did you miss the part where i said multiplayer fps? Most of those other games that have monthly subs comes with stories and PVE. If BF2042 was worth $70, people shouldn’t be crying now that it might go f2p. If only it had single player, then consumers wouldn’t be able to ask for refunds.

Picked it up on Series X, didn’t care for the cross platform lobbies with PC players and I didn’t in particularly care for the specialists. I’d much rather have more generic looking soldiers and/or more customization options on physical appearance. The specialists were just too goofy looking for me to take seriously.

Overall, didn’t like the main campaign maps but enjoyed Portal. The weather stuff was cool.
