what is the competition?Hope he's right, he doesn't make that public if he has some credible sources. Btw, Sacred Symbols -> Just do it!!! Best PlayStation show out there
isn't that ironic? Its hilarious to me. People act like showcases are constructed just to tickle their proverbial balls, when the obvious move is to show something for every interest group served by their platform and services.
well, they actually didn't show anything about them. just CGISony months back announces a big push into GaaS with 10 titles planned. So, in their showcase presentation they show off a bunch of them and people act surprised!
Newsflash: GaaS are extremely popular on both console and PC, especially something like Fortnite that uses a F2P model.
pushing?...more like throwing the leftoversSimilarly, they have to continue pushing PSVR2 titles because they can't be seen to let the product die on the vine, even if a lot of people aren't that interested in PSVR2 or in fact VR generally.
On top of that they need to show some love for smaller indie titles, because if nothing else they are a nice palate cleanser between the big stuff and offer a way to tap-the-gas on PS+. They aren't going all-in like MS, but the occasional Stray or Humanity are a nice way to draw attention.
yeah like Team Asobi's next gameThere are a lot of fans of Japanese titles and franchises on Playstation, so need to give them some space.
but they just did that....an entire SoP dedicated to FFXVI....plus all the interviews and shit...FXVI already is overexposed.Oh, Final Fantasy XVI is a third-party exclusive that they have high-hopes for and is out next month. So that needs highlighting as they can't drop a State Of Play before then.
no one (with a functional brain) was expecting games show in this showcase to be released this year. (showcases/presentations are meant to create a road map anyway). We're half-way through the year already and as the holiday quarter will no doubt be dominated by the usual third-party contenders, (and certainly no reason to spotlight multi-plats that have MS' fingerprints on them... let the opposition do the work on them) there's no real reason to backload the year beyond one heavy hitter. So finish up with a big spotlight on Spidey 2.
clearly this is false....are the10 minutes of Spider man's gameplay and FFXVI trailer "pushing further" stuff that's already been announced? That's basically all bases covered for calendar 2023. There's no reason to push stuff that's already been announced further at this point.
why having a "fnal" word then?Wait until later in the year, certainly past show season as you want to throw Geoff a bone, and why fight for mindshare when you can just wait til the opposition has shot its bolt to get the "final" word in.
well, they made a statement anyway....and clearly was the wrong oneSony don't *need* to make a statement at this point.
i dont think you know what is the actual criticism about this showcase. For those unhappy about them not having a big show since 2020 the obvious retort is that the absence of one hasn't impacted their sales and marketshare has it?
Its hilarious to me. People act like showcases are constructed just to tickle their proverbial balls, when the obvious move is to show something for every interest group served by their platform and services.
Yeah Sony deliberately hid the big first party titles from their highly anticipated show just to have them in a second showcase quickly after…Another PlayStation Showcase? When was the first one?
Yeah mention that one lighting in a bottle title and forget the filled GRAVEYARD of failed titles and attempts.Sony months back announces a big push into GaaS with 10 titles planned. So, in their showcase presentation they show off a bunch of them and people act surprised! Newsflash: GaaS are extremely popular on both console and PC, especially something like Fortnite that uses a F2P model.
Xbox did not even need to turn up just to keep Playstation fanboys on the ropesYou guys are so desperate for a win. No need to wait for next showcase, the games are here.
I just dont get it. Who the hell plays this gaas shit. Nobody I knowIts hilarious to me. People act like showcases are constructed just to tickle their proverbial balls, when the obvious move is to show something for every interest group served by their platform and services.

this defense force is kind of ridiculous.
YesIs this a threat?
I just dont get it. Who the hell plays this gaas shit. Nobody I know
Here we go..,. Nothing "Denfense Force"...There's nothing "defense force" about pointing out the business logic behind compiling a product showcase. It is what it is.
of course it was. They showed 32 games plus a couple of hardware announcements, so quantity couldn't be the issue, it had to be the content. So let's discuss that:
one of the longest after 600+ days since the previous one. Which historically, shows like this one are done once a year.First of all format: This is a package that ran approximately 70minutes;
they had twice the ammount of time to make a gameplay presentation. they could literally have taken like 3-6 months to do so due to sony skipping a year.so do the math as to how much time each announcement was allocated on average and then consider that getting actual footage of gameplay requires a lot of effort on the developers end - especially if the title is still a long way from completion.
yet, insomniac showed uninterrupted Gameplay...and a lot.Devs have always HATED E3 because putting together something worthy of showing from a work-in-progress build is a massive pain in the balls. With everyone under the gun due to delays around Covid restrictions already,
Again, historically speaking, sony always has shown gameplay at their conference, even with these formats of State of Plays/Showcases.I was entirely unsurprised at the prevalence of CG reveals because those can be outsourced or at least treated as side-projects so as to minimize disruption to ongoing work.
this funny because they actually show a fricking Gran Turimos Movie trailers.Games are not movies,
and again...they had twice the amount of time to do so.you can't just hack something together in the edit bay and shine it up quickly in post. Every bit of footage will end up being examined microscopically and God help the devs should something be included there that isn't present in the final. There'll be the usual cries of "downgrade" or deliberate deception when all it is really is the natural process of addition and subtraction that occurs over the cycle.
then dont brand it as a Showcase. brand it as an hour long State of Play.I get it. Ideally we'd all like to see stuff that is not only polished but accurately representative of the end product, but you cannot just pull this out of your ass!
You know they are not showing the actual game Right?..they make special vertical slices/demos.If a game is a year out from release then it not changing is the aberration, not the norm. At that point the title is likely buggy and unstable, gameplay isn't fine tuned and neither are the visuals.
another funnny statement when this show was probably one of longest one. And people hyped because of that.Dev cycles get longer year-in, year-out, meanwhile the attention span of the audience is on average getting shorter and shorter.
have you seen the amount of views that Spiderman 2 GAMEPLAY presentations has gotten? So you tell me, is it really worth putting all your teams and partners through this stress to get 2 minutes of B-roll that is destined to end up munged into a huge compilation of other titles and forgotten within days of its reveal? An entirely counter-intuitive process when many of these titles don't even have firm release dates...
in your mind, that is for sure. This is the reality.
the alternative:What's the alternative, too?
we had specific States of Play for that.Just spotlight a handful of first-party heavy hitters for extended deep-dives
i don't even know what event are you even referring to...but clearly, didn't have the same negative reception than this showcase did.. I think we all remember the reaction from "fans" when Sony tried this!
Its hilarious to me. People act like showcases are constructed just to tickle their proverbial balls, when the obvious move is to show something for every interest group served by their platform and services.

procceds to Defense Force.
context baby, context.
this was not just a "Product Showcase" . it was a Showcase (branding that PS uses to prominently show their First/Second Party Games).
one of the longest after 600+ days since the previous one. Which historically, shows like this one are done once a year
when was the last time sony skipped a year without showing its roadmap?...yep. this was unprecedented.
they had twice the ammount of time to make a gameplay presentation. they could literally have taken like 3-6 months to do so due to sony skipping a year.
yet, insomniac showed uninterrupted Gameplay...and a lot.
Again, historically speaking, sony always has shown gameplay at their conference, even with these formats of State of Plays/Showcases.
is funny you use the phrase: "entirely unsurprised" when A LOT of people used the the opposite to describe the lack of First Party content/the reliance of CGI teasers
then dont brand it as a Showcase. brand it as an hour long State of Play.
but again this excuse is not just valid when they had twice the time to make gameplay.
You know they are not showing the actual game Right?..they make special vertical slices/demos.
another funnny statement when this show was probably one of longest one. And people hyped because of that.
but then again and for the n time.
if dev cycles are getting longer, the fact that sony skpliped a year (assuming to giving more time to their studios ) kind of defeats your argument.
Didn’t say it would be my strategy but we know they still have a lot in the coffers. It seems more likely to me there’s a showcase level rollout of their studios rather than a smaller individual approach of individual titles being released one at a time.So while your opponent is the laughingstock of the internet you decide to announce a showcase less than a month before theirs and purposefully make it awful and take all attention away from Microsoft’s failures…..because?…..”they are gonna be shocked when we have another one by September!!!! We were just holding back the real showcase!!!!!”
Just seems like copium tbh
are you going to play this fucking dumb game?Says who ?
and yet, they had one showcase in the year of the pandemic.Historically we don't have 2 years of lockdowns and remote working.
not even fucking Xbox has skipped a year.So was Covid. Times change, and you need to deal with new realities.
road map, hype, excitement, PR, Marketing and even some dumb people buy a console depending of the games shown. The release cadence hasn't increased to justify that. Are you forgetting the fundamental purpose is to sell product? Its utterly pointless to show snapshots of stuff that will be forgotten by the time it releases? So if the number of tent-pole releases in any given calendar year remains the same, what's the point?
and all the teams had twice the time to make a gameplay presentation. No excusesBecause their title is <6months from launch and is a sequel to 2 PS5 releases so the underlying tech and fundamentals have been in place for a long time.
that should tell you how bad the showcase actually was.And of course for showing 10 minutes of footage the peanut gallery is still not happy because its not "now gen" enough...
Yeah 2020,2021.....the years in wich sony had ShowcasesDon't cite historical precedent whilst ignoring the global disruption of the last few years. You know, remember when Sony were struggling to keep up with demand due to supply chains worldwide being fucked.
So your issue boils down to... branding?
the weak man tactic: "i cannot be bother".This is all so ignorant... I really cannot be bothered.
and that would explain why skipping a year for a showcase. Why do you think cycles are getting longer? Could it be EVERYTHING TAKES LONGER TO MAKE?
and again. you give more time to devs. make showcases every two years thenDo you think maybe that includes demo builds?
pre covid....see? fucking hypocrisy. i listed the two showcases 2020,2021.PS. When I was referring to a "deep dive" focussed presentation I was referring to their E3 2018 showcase.
are you going to play this fucking dumb game?
Exactly: the content was the issue, plus the actual script of the conference itself I'd say. They showed 32 games plus a couple of hardware announcements, so quantity couldn't be the issue, it had to be the content.
Exactly: the content was the issue, plus the actual script of the conference itself I'd say.
The same should, but without the 8 or so games that no one had any interest in (Immortals of Aveum, Ultros, Tower of Fantasy, Cat Quest...) or that looked like straight-up garbage (Tower of Aghasba, Foamstars...) and with the remaining games ordered differently, would have hit much more differently. Oh, and I was forgetting the offense of putting a Gran Turismo movie trailer in there, see? There were a lot more problems to the show that had nothing to do with development schedules and that sort of stuff that you discuss in your post, which I 100% agree with.
Huh? This thread is filled with green rats making quips about playstation. I'd say this thread shows more of the thirst fanboys have to say something bad about Sony, such as trying to equate Sonys poor showcase showing with Xbox's lack of AAA games this generation. Thats just being delusional.Xbox did not even need to turn up just to keep Playstation fanboys on the ropes
can you provide a list of these "green rats"?Huh? This thread is filled with green rats making quips about playstation. Ironic that it is coming from youHuh? This thread is filled with green rats making quips about playstation. Worst part is people are going to be excited about it. About a trailer that tells them NOTHING about the game. Oh well.It will be a bunch of "Not actual Gameplay" Trailers for games that are coming out in 2026.
Here is Tom saying there is no info on 2nd showcase.
They might or might not. But so far, there is no noise about it.He THINK it is possible based on what?
Probably based on the fact they showed very few first party new games and a lot of studios have unannounced games....He THINK it is possible based on what?
Just because they had an awful showcase doesn’t mean another one is planned. Maybe it is just that. An awful showcase.Probably based on the fact they showed very few first party new games and a lot of studios have unannounced games....
It's not rocket science. It might happen. It might not. But with the Sony slate for the future currently so bare it's probably more likely than not as the games in production have to be announced somewhere
Just because they had an awful showcase doesn’t mean another one is planned. Maybe it is just that. An awful showcase.
This whole situation shows you how bad their communication is. Why not start with “This is our first showcase of 2023 and we are planning other shows soon after” or anything.
