Death Stranding: Gamescom 2019 MAMA, Deadman, Ludens Fan | Character Spotlight Trailers

At this point, it's my only hope
What he showed so far looks more like a tech demo, in my opinion
I used to be crazy hyped about DS, but today's " gameplay " ( I certainly have an hard time calling it gameplay lol) made me exhausted
Now, we have some possibilities:
1)he said We'll see a massive gameplay at TGS, so or he's so confident in his game, to be relaxed about showing something that is so good, so good it will sell millions with ease, thanks to a gameplay capable of wipe out any other rival, and he's a gameplay artist, I think we all agree on this., or...
2) He's too much confident in his status, and now thinks not showing a proper gameplay 'til some days before launch is something that raises the hype bar, due to his name associated to masterpieces

Still think everything is a trick, tho, and this is not Death Stranding at all, like it will be a 200% different game
There are going to be so many broken hearts come November. :messenger_anguished:

The willingness for people to deceive themselves so utterly and completely that they'll willingly come up with crazy conspiracies instead of accepting the reality that they see in front of themseves... it is truly baffling.

Why do people do this to themselves?

I just finished watching the "gameplay" video and am still waiting for them to start playing... WTF did I see?
I think a lot of people are confused about what the so-called "gameplay demo" is. it's not really a gameplay demo, it's a very short segment of gameplay to show that Geoff Knightley makes a cameo in the game. That's it, that's all it's meant to show; the host of the event they're showing this at is in the game. That's the point...

It's really uncharitable and a show of bad faith to look at that very short segment of a quest being cashed in, in which barely anything else besides that happens, and say based off of that that "The gameplay looks boring". But hey, this game and Kojima just seem to trigger the hell out of people. No matter what's shown, some people are gonna hate.

Why do you do this to yourself? Did the answers in the other Death Stranding/Hideo Kojima thread where you asked the same question a while ago not satisfy you?

I'm so glad a game like this exists in the AAA sector. One where the core design philopshy isn't about killing your enemies or defeating your opponents even though conflict and danger are ever present. It's about journeying. The core mechanics are essential that of survival (of Sam and BB) and finding the best route to traverse a vast naturalistic landscape to deliver special packages. The traversal mechanics and tools are going to be fun to use. Thinking what's the best way to get point A to B to C to deliver each package will be part of the fun.

I feel so drawn to Death Stranding's desolate virtual wilderness. It's giving me the same feelings I got from roaming the Forbidden Lands in Shadow of the Colossus, and the western inspired frontiers in Red Dead Redemption 2.. I spent hours in those games just roaming the wilderness and taking screen shots recoding, observing little details, going on little adventures. I'm very much looking forward to the moment to moment of Death Stranding, KojiPro are amazing developers, so I know controls are going to be polished.

The simple fact that Death Stranding is so divisive is wonderful thing. The final game could be very amazing, or very flawed, but at very least it's not forgetabble. That's what the AAA sectors needs in my opinion. Less conventional game design, more unconventional and inspire concepts. Next-gen, I hope to see more AAA titles (1st & 3rd part) with unconventional concepts and game design.

Its just people being wilfully obtuse and negative. Its obvious that Kojima is holding a lot back and he's drip-feeding information as carefully as possible.

All that being said, what's basically being hidden is the combat/action component. which inevitably is going to be familiar because in the end its just a 3rd person action game, with some gunplay, some melee, and stealth elements. Expecting "more" than that is plain stupidity, because a game is a game is a game.

Noone's reinventing fundamental stuff like that at this point, which is why it annoys me so much when dickheads get all snotty about it. Who's doing more exactly? And what realistically should be expected within the framework that a playstation controller and a third-person perspective offers? Especially when there have been ample snippets shown in footage released to this point to give a pretty clear indication of the range of actions on offer.

This doesn't look great at all,so much motion blur, nothing about that gameplay is interesting,All we saw till now ist just walking, and the game releases in nov,the movements are so stiff, feels more like he made this game to add famous people that he wanted to meet, cause from what I heard he has more cameos of some actors.Looks stupid.

Well, if you read a title saying "Gameplay demo" so close to the release date and with no other gameplay video shown this far, I don't think you'd expect something else, specially on such a big event... Do they promoted it as such or was the press? IDK, but I know it would be weird to expect otherwise (unless they were Nintendo, in which case no one ever knows)

what is "with no other gameplay video shown this far"? we have seen many. we've seen walking, ladders, climbing, shooting, motorcycle, and hiking/traversal in several videos by now. we've seen sneaking past bosses. now we have 6 mins of getting up, peeing, package delivery, and rocking a baby.

this being labeled "gameplay" differentiates it from, say, the video where Del Toro's hologram explains the baby network. it is a player controlled character moving around the gameworld. this is why this is called gameplay".

with Kojima's games post GZ, the gameplay itself is cinematic, so people often confuse the two. tbh this might be intentional on his part, he has always loved film and movies, his games merge ever closer. this really feels like a 70s sci fi movie IMO.

Wrong.

Walking, climbing, using items (ladders), riding a motorcycle, fighting, shooting, stealth, and a giant shadowy boss battle.

And we will see more gameplay at the Tokyo Game Show.

Ladders you say?!

Still nothing mind blowing, the game doesn't do anything new, expect a story that nobody will understand ,and the character's movement are bad for a game that is coming out these days.

To be honest, I am still confused, not very impressed, and I don't know how much of the game is pure gameplay. The fact that the game is like 2 months away, and we still don't know what genre it represents aside from it being open-world, walking, climbing, taking care of a baby and pissing a lot. I will wait for reviews before purchasing. Definitely not a day 1 purchase for me.

I am in the same boat. I was really hype when it was announced and like the WTF story trailers.

But all the gameplay are really not convincing me. I know they are probably mainly showing "weird" stuff (walking/baby caring/pissing...) for marketing reason and keep the "WTF game" feeling but it's start too be long for me.
I am fine for a WTF story but at one point a game should be fun to play. And so far, this doesn't look like it.

But I'll see after the release the review to know exactly what it is about.

Huh? Do what to myself? Respond to the topic of the thread? Is there some rule stating that only specific sorts of opinions are allowed?

Also, regarding that thread, I found it very telling that people stopped responding the moment I actually explained my critical observations of the game... :pie_thinking:

It's also interesting that you're singling out my post specifically, when there are numerous other comments in the thread making the exact same observations I am. I would recommend staying on topic.

I'm expecting numerous patches after launch because even if it's just a walking around game there's no way Kojima & co. could finish the game in just three years.

So I'm skipping this one completely.

Can you actually walk while urinating? I feel that it would cause quite the ludonarrative dissonance if you couldn't.

Im just not sure about what height he was urinating and what height that baby was pluged in front....it could just go wrong so fast. Did they measured height properly?

So you've got this futuristic world with all this high tech stuff and yet the main character has to carry his gear in big boxes on his back. It looks out of place.
Surely in such a world you would have some sort of intelligent suitcase that follows you around.

Watch some of the other trailers, they do have cases that can follow you around.

I won’t be impressed if Kojima ask the reviewers to give it 0 out of 10 to troll and fuck our minds more.
After all it’s something totally new as a game so....

Gotta say, that based on the way the GamesCom footage makes it evident that BT's are basically invaders from "the world of the dead", I'm starting to think that this is an expanded version of the Silent Hills concept.

Consider that:

1. We have a protagonist who's an "ordinary joe", not a soldier or combat specialist.
2. The principle enemies are essentially ghosts, that physically manifest and attack you.
3. The way these ghosts react seems strongly bound to their relationship with the person.
4. There appears to be at least 1 cult, working with the ghosts for their own ends.
5. The game is open-world with the environment shifting into a "dark mode" during severe manifestations.
6. Fighting is possible, but generally avoidance/evasion is the best bet against stronger foes.
7. There's a central mystery about memory, and the loss of a loved one.

What have I just described, Death Stranding or Silent Hill 2/3?

I agree with everything you said.... although this game will most likely get very solid reviews just because of the name attached with it.

They're dodgy videos recorded from the feed of a live event. The sound is all echoey because it was being broadcast over loud speakers at the event. No doubt by tomorrow the Playstation Youtube channel will upload 4K versions of the trailers.

Okay, so I'll wait until then to watch these videos. Because right now I'm 100%.......

The backpack looks out of proportion , I know is a videogame and anythning is possibble but balance and movement would be difficult unless those items weigh nothing.

Its huge and unesthetic

Gameplay looked interesting. Would be great to see some action but I liked this too. It will be fun walking around realistic looking environments like this. I will definitely buy this.

This game is just fascinating. Can understand the lovers and understand the haters, which only makes it even more fascinating.
