Ducktales (2017) |OT| Might solve a mystery, or reboot history!

Also: well, Launchpad got hit with the dumb bat. He's beyond dumb. He is funny, but holy guacamole is he dumb.
Launchpad was always dumb. But in the original DuckTales he was also brave. In Darkwing he was turned into a cowardly sidekick. But no, he was always a bit of a fool.

The show has been pretty good but I really want to see more Uncle Scrooge and more globe trotting adventures.
Good episode but the last two episodes have been disappointingly Scrooge-less.
Next episode will have copious amounts of Scrooge, Donald and the ducklings. Also Gladstone. There's a preview on TV rotation but so far I haven't found a recording or direct-stream online source of it yet. It's been like this every week, not sure why no one bothers to upload it until the day before an episode airs.

For an episode named terror of the Terra-Firmians there was very little terra firmians =P
Emphasis was on the 'terror' part. Pretty sure this episode's purpose was to introduce us to their existence. We're going to be seeing them again at some point.

Good episode this week, wasn't the biggest fan of the previous one. Lena is starting to come up on her own (in "Massacre" I was more endeared by the effects she had on Webby than by Lena herself) and low on smarts as Launchpad was, I was won over by several of his gags. "Just in case" killed me, as did his mind malfunctioning when presented with the possibility of handling a vehicle -without- crashing it, then his satisfaction when he inflicted that fate.

How the Guidebook was handled left me with mixed impressions. I'm all for the idea of Huey not relying on some object to take all life choices for him, but it came at the cost of robbing the mythical piece o' Duck lore much of its mystique and sense of wonder. May as well have been a generic"general survival knowledge" type of book.

The door's definitely open for them to use the Terra-Firmians proper again, here's hoping!

Mark Beaks' episode was pushed and we'll have House of the Lucky Gander this upcoming weekend. Which is -excellent- news far as I'm concerned; it seems like it'll be a Donald-heavy episode, and he's been absent for three episodes in a row now! Crossing fingers they can channel some of the hilarious rivalry between Don and Gladstone a lá Barks.

New episode was alright. I didn't have a huge problem with the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook not mentioning the Terra-Firmians, but Huey adding his own entries to it felt like borderline blasphemy. Plus, if he was already adding entries, why was he so insistent that the book not mentioning something meant it didn't exist?

Great episode. Much better than last week's, which was just okay. But I definitely want more Scrooge/Donald now. They're needed.

You guys must remember that in the early episodes the guide was pretty much down to earth.

It was on later episodes that it turned into the hichhyker's guide to the galaxy

Going more by its portrayal in the comics, where that small book contained the answers to everything and anything. Impossible, sure, but then that was the joke and the appeal. Showing it as incomplete and mistaken from the getgo rubbed me the wrong way, way to rob it of its charms! To me it was the equivalent of naming Scrooge's fortune in real world numbers.

A minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things, though.

In this incarnation, I think the implication is that he's afraid of the unknown, so he used the JWG as an excuse to not check if there were Terra-Firmies. He adds to it to track info he's gathered for himself. He also seems to prefer to stick with explanations he knows, hence running with the earthquake explanation.

There were no mistakes though, just a lack of obscure information. I do like the idea he's adding info that will be passed forward someday.

Not sure if this is a big deal spoiler or not, but I'll tag it anyway. Frank Angones said that
Scrooge features in 18 of the last 19 episodes of S1.

This is true, it was I who was mistaken! My bad. "Obscure information" is exactly the sorta thing that book shouldn't be missing tho, but I'll drop that now.

Not a spoiler, more like a relief! We need more Scrooge in this show. Here's hoping Don appears almost as much for the rest of the season.

Ok, just gotta say, I like
Tate as Magica
, but I think the biggest revelation is Launchpad (Who killed it) sees Dewey as his best friend. Does that mean he doesn't know Darkwing yet in this universe?

No, it means...
Darkwing will be Dewey
!

(not really a spoiler)

imho we should be focusing on scrooge more than any of the kids.

Hopefully the show is being front-loaded with more kid-centric episodes to try and draw in the younger audience before going heavy on episodes starring an elderly, cranky, impossibidillionaire. Scrooge is already my six year old's favorite character, but he played the WayForward remake a few years ago first and then watched the original TV series on DVD.

Is it too early to call the reboot a success?
‘DuckTales' Is Disney XD's #1 Animated Series in Over Two Years With Total Viewers, Kids 2-11 and Boys 2-11, Amassing Nearly 50 Million Views To Date

There's finally an off-screen recording of the promo for this Saturday's "The House of the Lucky Gander" airing which was definitely pushed up from its last reported airing date
(originally the episode with Mark Beaks was supposed to be next in the lineup though it's more inline with the intended order so whatever):
LINK

So that teased aerial flyover of a city at night wasn't the rumoured St. Canard but "Macaw", the DuckTales version of the city of Macau in China:

Macau is a resort city in Southern China, known for its casinos and luxury hotels.

Paul F. Tompkins is such a perfect fit for Gladstone Gander. He has the "upbeat, seemingly happy guy that other characters just fucking hate" thing on lockdown between this and Mr. Peanutbutter on Bojack Horseman.

Is that Paul F. Tompkins?

He sure is! Short clip with his thoughts (and further moments from the episode) here.

As far as Gladstone's characterization goes, it seems like they'll
try to aim for a more sympathetic portrayal. Which I've got mixed feelings on. Nothing bad with giving him a touch more depth...down the road. He is the defacto jerkass in the Duckverse and if they do downplay that attribute from the getgo that's gonna crush so many (hilarious) story possibilities!...
But of course this is premature judgement based on just a few clips.

Ah, they're from this article:
Meet Mark Beaks, DuckTales' new Tech Bro Villain

'The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks' airs next Saturday, October 21st.

this dude's gonna need to update his board

EDIT: Choppasmith, you're gonna need to fix the schedule in the OP too. Gander and Beaks switched Saturdays. And who knows if the 28th is accurate, too.

Done. I'll keep the 28th as is for now. I've seen the Disney schedule for November and so far it looks like there's no episodes scheduled.

Nostalgia aside so far i think this new show is better atleast it is much funnier. When i try and watch the old episodes the humour often falls flat and is too kid friendly in a dumb way.

Writing is often very good in this and it shows alot of respect to the old source material

Can’t agree with the sentiment that this is better than original. This is off to a slow start getting us accustomed to these characters but not knowing when to move on to the McMuffins that are sorely missed. Today’s episode was entertaining yet pointless. Highlights were the nephew and the tiger and Launchpad.

Am I missing something? I saw the Beaks episode tonight, but not the one everyone is talking about.

Or did they both air today? I'm lost lol.

Man, I felt really bad for Donald in that episode.
Especially with the sequence of gags of Gladstone getting $20 bucks and causing Donald to be on the brunt of his good luck.

But I did laugh at the gag that Donald's luck is so terrible, it basically caused that Frog to lose all his power and send him back to whatever dimension he came from, hotel and all. Also, the two ending gags with Gladstone buying a solid gold yacht for 130 Yuan ($20 dollars) and seeing that cricket to be not all that glamorous was hilarious.

Confirmed. For some reason the Mark Beaks episode aired on Canadian television instead of the Gladstone ep (guess they didn't get the memo). Found off-screen footage of the episode but I'd rather wait until it airs or a proper TV-rip is available than watch it in that condition.

Each passing week where they don't go on a legit, exotic adventure or face some sort of craziness is bringing me down.

Hour long premiere: Let's follow Scrooge McDuck on world spanning adventures!
Following episodes: Do you like Duckburg?

It's a good show no doubt, and the kids love it, but it hasn't really scratched that itch for me yet.

Ahh okay. So we'll most likely get the Gladstone ep. this Saturday? Not sure if I should just try to find it so as to avoid the spoilers, or just wait and see.

Any chance Canadian standards for children weren't happy with the gambling theme?
