Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

water_wendi

Water is not wet!
I thought NV had fewer. I stand corrected then.
i think its because they are split between Radio New Vegas and Black Mountain/Mojave Music Radio. There is some overlap on a few songs but they have different play lists.

Just thought of another 3 (?) or so songs.. the ones in The Tops with the Lonesome Drifter and Isaac. i dont know if those count though lol.

Y'all see this?
Awesome.

Just playing the DLC,

Dead Money, It was fun but I didn't like the villa, the environments were too similar however I really enjoyed the story.

Honest Hearts- Again, good story and it was fun, but very short

Old World Blues, I just started this and already its better than the last 2 combined, really enjoying the story and the setting, however this is definitely the hardest DLC, I'm lvl 50 ;p
Seems like Obsidian is getting into its stride.

I'm playing Dead Money. Still at the beginning of it.

Man, those ghost enemies can be a little difficult. I'm an energy weapon specialist, and I can take care of them pretty easily with that, but I can't really find that much energy ammo. I sometimes resort to melee but I'm a bit underleveled in that department too. I have plenty of guns and regular gun ammo, but that's pretty useless against them. Seems like melee is my main option here.

Same. Honest Hearts was neat, but didn't have enough substance compared to the final two - and Dead Money had an AWESOME set of characters, but the villas were rage inducing from a gameplay perspective. Still, all 4 are "great" with OWB being the king and Lonesome Road just baaaarely behind it.

OWB has some amazing stuff.

Would love a Fallout 3 one.

Still progressing my first playthrough (with JE Sawyer's mod); in love with this game. Captures exactly what Fallout was all out.

Almost done getting all the achievements for New Vegas. Only 2 remain - 30 wins at Caravan (should be easy if I bother to learn how the game works) and the 3 GRA *** challenges. I might be boned and have to start -another- new game but I'm level 40 and hopefully are able to kill enough named legionnaires.

the caravan cheese mint was a LOT easier when the AI was still broken. they never used to sabotage your tracks to mess you up, now they play to win.

That would have been real nice. Took me about 60 games total, losing roughly half of em. It wasn't too bad though. And now I like playing Caravan.

que?
has anyone tried out the NTCore 4GB Patch?

i wanna try it but am scared of breaking my game.

I haven't had any problems with it, personally. There's a version on the NVSE that works with NVSE and having the extra ram helps with all the mods I've thrown into my game.

it's a pretty addictive game, isn't it? it was way too boring before they fixed it, always used to annoy me that the ai didn't do really obvious things to screw me. also, you could easily grind out stupidly large piles of caps by about level 5 so it quite seriously broke the game.

Just finished all the DLC.

Old World Blues >>>>Lonesome Road>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dead Money>>Honest Hearts

Really enjoyed them all though.

My final play time for the ultimate edition is 80 hours. I need a fallout break.

How do you make money in this game? All those delicious guns, so far out reach.

Are you only just starting out in the game? Depends on how far you are, really.

Generally, if you're still in the early stages of the game and if you've got your repair skill up high enough, you can look for the parts to make Weapon Repair Kits, make a bunch of them, and then go scavenging for weapons to repair them to full condition before selling them off. There's no shortage of ammo in the game either, so you could easily sell what you have an excess of.

Or, if you have a Luck rating of 7 or above, you'll eventually be able to clean out the casinos. There's also the treasure of the Sierra Madre from Dead Money.

I got some crazy-ass money repairing guns that enemies have. No shortage of em and eventually you'll be sellin even little shits for a few hundred, if not a thousand capulets.

Put on some sexy sleepwear and chug a beer before you talk to merchants. Pick up junk equipment and weapons you don't use and repair it and sell it. In fallout 3 I was basically a drug dealer, making chems in my house and hawking them off to merchants.

I find repairing and selling equipment from dead enemies sufficient. Towards the endgame you will be ballin' and you won't waste time carrying equipment you don't need.

So, I'm playing hardcore mode and it's really starting to feel like an annoying chore rather than an interesting game mode. It's almost the same thing as vanilla, except I need to click on some items every now and then.

The only reason I'm still sticking it out is for the "special reward." Whatever that is.

An achievement? lol, there's nothing more to it than that.

Sadly hardcore mode on the consoles and vanilla PC is pretty much nothing.

Now, you hook that jesawyer mod up...now you're livin'.

ugh really

well whatevs

I've leveled up twice since and having to eat, drink, sleep isn't much of a hassle anymore so I'll stick with it. There's something cool about having to fight battles carefully because of the slow health regen.

I swear the game said I'd get something special for beating it in hardcore though. Man, I must be seeing things.

It may have been a reference to the achievement. I preferred hardcore mode too. It makes the game a lot more interesting.

Yeah. I like hardcore mode. I just wish it had been a little more challenging.

Can someone help-- I am doing some early mission with Chavez/Eddie where I
convinced Chavez to go away or something (then I killed his gang), and I went back to Eddie's building. Nobody shoots me, but when I get to Eddie, the whole freaking place turns on me... Was I not supposed to kill Chavez?

Did you kill any Powder Gangers? If you get hated by the Powder Gangers, you can't go back, unfortunately.

I managed talk to Eddie again by sneaking and killing my way to his office, quicksaving, then talking to him with a stealth boy on. There's like a second they take to get aggro with you and if you manage to talk him in between states you might be able to move the quest forward. Yeah, pretty shitty bug, amongst the worst in the game, really.

So I think I hit a dead-end of sorts with the main quest line House Wins/Render Unto Caesar.

I let Benny go, to be later captured by the Legion and sent to The Fort. I've received the Mark of Caesar earlier on from Vulpes Incults, but was ambushed by some Legion attack squads whilst completing some side quests. I am now vilified.
The problem being that regardless of who my companion is, whether I'm wearing faction armour, or even modifying the faction rep; high ranking Legion and dogs will attack on sight. Sneaking by is an option, but Benny is not in possession of the chip. The only way to regain the chip is from Caesar's corpse, as he refuses to speak to me.

Besides his initial introduction, will I be missing anything by killing off
Caesar
this early in the questline? I heard the NCR path doesn't require the chip, but I was heading down the road of Yes Man or House.

Just kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out.

hell fucking yes. you've basically reached the point of no return as far as the legion are concerned.
I have no quarrels with killing them all.

Just feels disappointing after hearing all these rumours about the man, my first confrontation with the man involves a bullet to the head. That and I may miss on some juicy backstory or some major speech.

You can always replay the game. There's tons of stuff to find and different builds to try out.

Yeah, I usually waited until after that Mark of Caesar-quest before mounting an assault. But trust me, nothing's more satisfying than first wiping out Cottonwood Cove and thén decimating the Fort.

Still wish you could swim to the Fort, though. I tried invading from the water, but there's an invisible wall. :'(

NV has safeguards in place that Caesar's right hand man takes over if you kill him - so feel free. You can even kill Caesar and go with the Legion ending if you wanted.

Basically Legate Lanius takes over the endgame for Caesar in the event that he is dead. That's Obsidian for you <3

Definitely will replay it...just not any time soon. Current save file is just hit 70hours.
I've beaten the game a couple times in a single day (normal difficulty, hardcore mode on, plus Project Nevada), so if you just want to talk to Caesar, that won't take you 70 hours, unless you get too sidetracked, which is still pretty good, since there's plenty of side quests so be beaten in other ways, karma and build wise.

Version 5 of the JSawyer mod is live.

An updated version of JSawyer is now uploaded in the usual place:

http://diogenes-lamp.info/jsawyer_fnv_mod.zip

I have been unable to load the mod in FNVEdit to adjust the Dehydration/Starvation/Sleep Deprivation values, but here is the small list of changes since last time:

v5 Changes:
===
9.29.2012
* That Gun added to The Professional list
* Wanderer's Leather and Highway Scar Armor placed in Mick and Cliff's stores respectively.
* Ranger Battle Armor renamed to Lucky Battle Armor. Stats adjusted, Reilly's Rangers decals removed. Placed in Cliff's Store.
* Has Backpack flag checked on Power Armors.
* Bent Tin Can = Tin Can! recipe added. It turns Bent Tin Cans into Tin Cans!!!! WOW!!!!

7.21.2012
* All primary quest XP in DLCs reduced by 66%. Edits were made in the quest scripts.

8.8.2012
* Replaced accidental secondary placement of duplicate Mercenary's Grenade Rifle with the Sturdy Caravan Shotgun.
* Fire Axe and Knock Knock added to Never Axed For This challenge weapon list.

It'll be a while until I get back to New Vegas, but glad to see him still working on the mod.

How dare you wipe out Cottonwood Cove, you filthy profligate.

I actually had a lot more fun playing against, and with, the legion after I installed this bad boy. Made the army a bit more intimidating than a bunch of hicks in football gear.

JSawyer v5.1 is already out.

A helpful modder going by the handle xporc graciously addressed some issues in my mod that I was having trouble resolving. After some back-and-forth to fix some display issues, JSawyer v5.1 is ready.

Here's a high-level overview of what's substantively changed:

* Hardcore (H2O/FOD/SLP) thresholds have been set to 400/550/700/850/1000 as originally intended for the mod. The HUD indicators now match this. However, because all "Hardcore" HUD indicators flip over at the same values, this means we had to change the Radiation thresholds (and Rad Child) to match. This means you can go a little bit longer before suffering ill effects from Radiation, but since the Hardcore acquisition rates are all faster than normal, I think players will still be doing more maintenance overall.
* A bunch of dirty edits I had previously made have been cleaned up.
* Various oversights have been fixed (details in the readme).

N.B.: Some of these fixes may not appear if you replace the mod for a game in progress.

As always, it is available here:

http://diogenes-lamp.info/jsawyer_fnv_mod.zip

Thanks to xporc for his help with these problems. I will be using v5.1 as the starting point for a future v6 (if it is needed).

Just drop it or uncheck any *pack.esm under Data Files on the launcher.
