From the 3 biggest Hollywood movies released this year so far, 2 of them are videogame adaptations

And to think that in the past, people looked down on video game movie adaptations or belittled the hobby.

People from before and today have a stigma, but things change... then people are very strange.

Now it turns out that many people want to be gamers.:pie_eyeroll:

Nerddom in general has just become vastly more accepted.

I guarantee that with many of the people who saw Avengers 1 opening weekend that if you asked them 15 years before that if they would be insanely excited about a film about Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, etc. they would be like, “nah.”

Anime has vastly grown in popularity with each decade but especially this past decade as streaming has made it far easier to access compared to before.

To be fair, video game adaptations (at least the live-action ones from the US) were looked down on for a reason in the past. The Mario movie was one of the most baffling movie creations ever. The Street Fighter movie sucked. The first Mortal Kombat was fine but was immediately followed up with a shit sequel. The Doom movie sucked. The first Silent Hill movie was pretty good but was followed by a shit sequel (and my most hated film of all time, FUCK YOU Revelations for disrespecting SH3 like that). The first Resident Evil movie was tolerable but was followed by shit sequels that disrespected the characters and stories of the RE games just so the director could show off his girlfriend/eventual wife who played the bland lead.

Detective Pikachu and the Sonic films (and even better, Arcane) were three pretty good adaptations that came out all close to each other in terms of release date. That never happened in the past three decades prior to that. So it makes sense general audiences would give video game adaptations a little more respect recently.

You are right, the point is that before, watching a video game in the 90's was very stigmatized, now it turns out that many people like to say that they are "Gamers". I know that the movies that were adapted as Double Dragon were garbage, but fortunately there are more adaptations and many people like it.

It's weird to say that if you take a person to Watch Uncharted, they'll say the movie is okay... but later they change the face if you say it is a video game adaptation, It would be funny to see what face they would put on.
