As someone who just recently beat Rage on Xbox 1 since it's backwards compatible, the shooting didn't feel nearly as good as I was hoping. But I do agree it should get a sequel.

I gotta say, I don't envy player unknown for calling what is essentially a business decision on "releasing" PUBG this year. Nobody is going to care as much as they do now come one year from now if they don't formally release it this year.
It's not even just to make the lists on video game websites. I bet he's putting his team into maximum overdrive to ensure they make the deadline for this year so that they can keep momentum and hopefully make some sales on the Xbox.

If PUBG is DQ'd, what do you guys see as the biggest GOTY contender over there?
I'm thinking some serious shit could go down with Super Mario Odyssey. I know there's a few Zelda stans at Giant Bomb, but their hype appeared to dissipate right when they got into PUBG (and Jeff didn't really love it either).
I'd love for Persona, Nier, or Yakuza to become big contenders, but I just don't see anyone outside maybe Alex for Nier pushing for any of them to take the top spot...

That's what I'm feeling. I'm going over my top 10 right now and only see like 3 western games (with a potential fourth for Wolfenstein or Destiny 2 depending on what happens)
Horizon ain't getting first, come on now.
I don't care about sense or even if it won, but now I won't have to look up timestamps to skip the initial conversation because I'm sick of hearing about it, so I'm happy.

This. Jeff loves Horizon. A few people on staff really like it. The rest just think it's alright. That's not enough to push it past 3rd (and that's being EXTREMELY generous)

That being said, yeah, you're not wrong. If he did like other games, it wasn't passionately enough to be remarkable. Hell, he might even prefer Destiny 2 over most games released this year, and he doesn't even seem all that excited about it.

lol why are people talking like PUBG is out of the GOTY running now? All jeff said was that they'll have the conversation about Early Access during those podcasts and stated his current opinion. Also this all hinges on the game not coming out this year, is there any real reason to believe it's not coming?

2015 was a weird year for Giant Bomb in that the people opposed to Jeff didn't really have strong arguments as to why something else should be GOTY. Dan milking Mario Maker for all the content it's worth didn't help things.
That all said, no way in hell Jeff cares as much about Horizon as he cared about Mario Maker.

Knack 1 was an okay game. Not great, but not bad either. I'm looking forward Knack 2, though I will be waiting on playing it later on.
