Media Create Sales: Week 22, 2013 (May 27 - Jun 02)

I've read that SMT4 won't get another shipment into stores until the latter half of June, so the drop doesn't surprise me. Has there been any news on how many copies are on store shelves?

Is Japan's gaming market dead? I mean it's supposed to be a handheld land and 3DS is the only contender but even it's sales aren't that good for it.

Friend Collection makes the million, is that the sixth 3DS game to sell a million? or have one of the Dragon Quests managed to get there?

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

We know it had around 80% sell-through for its debut week coming from Media Create and Dengeki.

Healthy ecosystem. People who buy the system have a lot of diverse choices across all genres and many popular franchises.

Plus, no 1st party releases last month, so people might have been going in to try out something they missed earlier on. Or, something.

Is this some 'reverse Playstation family' shit?

I kid, but everything is down YoY. Well, nearly everything ;)
Vita is the only one with a huge pricecut and people have suggested sony kill the psp off to help vita. The point was that sony took a huge cut in revenue with the price cut and its only up right now 4k while the psp dies off

Do we have infos about how Gyrozetter (that Square-Enix arcade brand) is doing in Japan? I fear the 3DS title will be a bad failure in sales, unfortunately.

Dat RE PS3 hold! First shipment is more or less gone now, time to catch up with the 3DS version and show Capcom that Playstation players are not ready to jump ship with them!

Has there been any more Vita software announced recently? Well, other than the Dragon's Dogma spinoff...

Super Heroine Chronicle, Exstetra, some visual novel I don't recall the name of.

How is being almost 70k off just barely? I am impressed by the result though considering the mediocrity of the port.

Vita up 4k, PSP down 5k. Seems like we're in the midst of a migration!

I was being tongue in cheek about the YoY thing.

KH 3D is over a million WW? I thought it bombed. Also it's pretty funny/sad to entertain the thought of SMT IV outselling it in Japan. (I know it won't, but it'll probably get close)

Do we have infos about how Gyrozetter (that Square-Enix arcade brand) is doing in Japan? I fear the 3DS title will be a bad failure in sales, unfortunately.

Square said it was a failure (because it was badly marketed and people didn't understand how "cool" it was or something) so yeah, unless the anime is really popular I doubt it's going to do too well.

I remember that, but aren't there more infos about Gyrozetter's popularity? Still, thanks :D

It seems like someone is heading towards the bomba-bin!

Is Japan's gaming market dead? I mean it's supposed to be a handheld land and 3DS is the only contender but even it's sales aren't that good for it.

There's only been 2 first party releases on 3DS so far this year (Luigi & Tomodachi), compared to last year, which had 4.

At the moment, the rest of the year is looking much more solid for the system. Bold are just assumptions.

June: DKCR3D, Gyrozettor, Etrian Odyssey
July: Mario & Luigi Dream Team, Youkai Watch, AA5
August: Disney Magic Castle, Mario Golf, One Piece: Romance Dawn
September: Monster Hunter 4, Daigasso Band Bros
October: Pokemon XY
November/December: Mario Party 3DS
2013: Sonic: Lost World, Devil Survivor 2, Project Mirai 2, Gyst Crusher, Kaio

No Zelda this year, though. Still, it's a pretty solid line up for the thing.

I see Tomodachi Collection joined the million club.

The Wii U version of Resident Evil: Revelations still below 40% sell-through.

So this would be the best-case scenario:

First Week:
[WIU] Resident Evil: Revelations <ADV> (Capcom) {2013.05.23} (¥4.990) - 8.179 / NEW <31%> 26.300 units shipped.

Second Week:
[WIU] Resident Evil: Revelations <ADV> (Capcom) {2013.05.23} (¥4.990) - 2.328 / 10.507 <40%> 15.800 units in stock.

3DS sales keep going down. I guess the new baseline will be 30k/week? I hope it won't reach the 20k mark :lol

Looking at both Tomodachi and AC sales, I'd say it'll continue staying over 35k weekly: in the following weeks, the platform will see also some bundles (Luigi 3DS XL and Disney 3DS XL), then there's Obon (so, higher hardware sales for everyone), and then September comes.

How many million sellers did PS3 have again? :p I kid, I kid. It's a good effort for 3DS.

Why? I can't believe tht A link to the past 2 will be out in 2013 ONLY in PAL market.

I don't think that Japanese market is dying by any means, but it is shrinking.

Ps4 will not be a huge seller which effectively means the console development in Japan from third parties will have even less output than what it has now.

The E3 direct better be dropping some huge bombs for the Wii U.

Gotta be honest I always thought AC and FC would bomb on 3DS.

Well since the AC Direct I thought it was a given that AC was going to be a success (although its level of success is a bit unexpected) and it is a pretty well established series, although it exploded with Wild World. I agree that Tomodachi is more suprising, I expected it to drop really badly like most casual success that happened on the DS.

Its coming out in the us and they likely think that monster hunter and pokekon is enough in japan while monster hunter has lite relevancy in the west so they needed one more thing

Even with all this its going to take a monster 2nd half worldwide to hit the hardware projections without a revision

It's quite possible it's true. And Zelda seems a good fit for Q1 in Japan, in order to keep hardware sales riding the crazyness this Holiday season will be, thanks to MH4 and (especially)Pokémon long wave, alongside all the other titles coming around Fall / end of the year.

Huh, that's quite a healthy line-up. I wonder how well Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will do considering the previous success of the title.

Famitsu has 12K and garaph numbers are from Famitsu

so 12k is not bad at all

Ok...that's a little better, but still lower than what I expected (wished for). By most accounts, SDOJ gave the impression of being very well-received by the shmup community, so I was expecting it to do better than this. Hopefully it continues to sell and manages to reach Futari/Espgaluda 2 LTD levels.

It's also worth noting that the omission of online sales from Media Create and Famitsu can actually be very significant when discussing niche 360 titles.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Is that still the case though? If it is, then SDOJ's sales should be much higher in reality, due to it being region-free.

I wouldn't mind Zelda gets delayed to next year in Japan. This killer lineup

We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.

I can't imagine the trend would reverse itself—if anything, I'd think an even greater percentage of sales would shift to online as B&M retailers cut their 360 shelf space/stock to virtually nothing. It also seems significant to me that the Cave Shooting Collection was an Amazon exclusive, though I could be wrong on that.

...Unfortunately, as much sound and fury is generated over region-free status, I'm really not sure the number of overseas importers would even make a blip on the sales radar. Lots of people talk, but I'm skeptical of how many actually get their wallets out.
