Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2017 (Feb 20 - Feb 26)

Principate

Saint Titanfall
I think it's going to go great! I missed that new console smell in MC threads. Good or bad it's certainly going to be entertaining. It gotten a bit boring in here with the just how dead is the Japanese traditional gaming industry (So dead),

They really nail the combat feel and mecha behavior. However GG somehow doesn't even bother to implement other half of MH that is "wear the skin of your enemy" part and the hunting part become strange mix between satisfaction and disappointment.

They probably didn't want to get too deep into that stuff for their first game. I can see them implementing a lot more MH inspirations in a follow up game. The game director is a big fan of MH after all.

Yes, you are probably right. Concern trolling is the only problem. There is absolutely no problem of NIntendo fans being too defensive and fragile snowflakes. None at all.

It's the same at every console launch

My statement goes both ways, not sure why you're reading that much into it.
Anyway, guess we'll see. Any fan is too sensitive on this forum, be it for Switch, PS4, Vita, Horizon, Spencer or other threads...

I wonder how much Horizons japanese dub helped.

Likely not much.

For some reaosn I thought the expectations for Horizon were 70-100k. It looks to be opening at 150-200k, even outselling Zelda.
That is where my expectations were. I figured it would be in the 60-80K range with 90-100K being rather optimistic. It seems to have comfortably done better than that.

A while ago there was a common narrative that the PSV version always do better than the PS4 version (in multiplats), but now it looks like multiplats sell better on PS4?

Well I guess those are the other mods locking those threads then. I know you like to troll a bit on the side, but come on now.
It's the same at every console launch, there's just more concern trolling this time.

Why did you truncate your own quote?

Depends on the game:

03./00. [PS4] Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony # <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) {2017.01.12} (¥7.400) - 40.006 / NEW

Also, worth noting this:

32./41. [PSV] Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization # <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.10.27} (¥6.100)

This was what they opened at:

01./00. [PS4] Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization # <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.10.27} (¥7.200) - 70.871 / NEW
02./00. [PSV] Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization # <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.10.27} (¥6.100) - 69.648 / NEW <66,53%>

Vita versions tend to have longer legs, at least for certain games. If you look at the retailer charts from this week, it already seems like the Vita version of SRWV is gaining compared to PS4.

With that said, we're seeing PS4 version winning a lot more often these days and it's only going to happen more frequently going forward.

While doing prediction I thought will it even do 50k first week (based on comgnet preorder number of mid 20 a week before launch). And now 150k first week is looking low.

Surely look like console gaming is not that dead in Japan. Third above expectation results for PS4 game in as many months

A while ago there was a common narrative that the PSV version always do better than the PS4 version (in multiplats), but now it looks like multiplats sell better on PS4?

Take a look at this week's retailer charts. The Vita version of SRW V is charting ahead of the PS4 one. The exact same thing happened to Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, though their FWs were closer.

Typically the only Vita/PS4 multiplats that always go in favour of PS4 are Koei Tecmo games. Valkyria: Azure Revolution sold better on PS4, but that game's sales weren't particularly great on either platform and the Vita version was an afterthought that didn't exist until more than a year into promo.

The fact that we're even having this conversation about the multi-plat split on a platform that hasn't seen a single release from its hardware manufacturer in 2 years isn't a good look for PS4.

Dang, I realize these are smaller / individual stores, but so far every early indication is Horizon on top this week.

If it actually does above 150k that would be utterly shocking to me.

That chart with Disgaea Portable in serves to remind me that I may be eating crow about Disgaea 5 on Wednesday.

I really thought it was going to do fine. Bleh.

You'll be surprised how many Wii U launch games multiplied first week sales many times if you think first week is the end of everything for system launch software.

Launch week sales don't determine the success or failure of a console, but a dissapointing result is dissapointing nonetheless.

From what it looks right now first week for Switch will be at 300k-, not 300k+.

Maybe closer to 250k than 300k.

Hmm i hope this thing is supply constrained as otherwise things don't look too swell.

It obviously is, you'd have to not have been paying attention to this very thread if you thought otherwise.

Retailers underestimated demand.

Maybe it is just the difficulty of doing a worldwide launch. Figuring out allocation and things of that nature.

Was Wii U worldwide? Or was it staggered?

I do wonder why Nintendo didn't manage to ship more, I guess priorities lay elsewhere

Eventually, you will remember that in Japan the retailer decides the shipment. I feel like we go over this every time there's underestimated demand and limited stock yet people keep forgetting.

Undershipped software or hardware (if there are really supply problems and not hopes and dreams as excuses) is overstimated.

There aren't lost sales, if demand is there sales will come later.

At the very least the launch seemed to have gone well in france and it seems like they got a decent amount of stock. Reports of 4 times wii u's first week and I think the wii u did 65k over there 260k allocation assuming all stats are accurate.

Fwiw i think that quote was attributed to an individual retailer rather than France as a whole.

At least from a retailers blog the guy say that they had run out of consoles and most accesories by Saturday with most who bought it being in their 20s.

He said that by the weekend the more casual audience appeared, naming younger children/families, but they didn't had any systems to sell by then.

It obviously is, you'd have to not have been paying attention to this very thread if you thought otherwise.

Retailers underestimated demand.

We know that but in launches stocks tend to be particularly scarce. Even if retailers ordered more or less that will inevitably be a trade off in launch system allocation. Nintendo has to decide where to send that stock.

I'm not so sure tbh. We'll have to see in the upcoming weeks. With basically no software I dunno if I really expect the sales to remain high. If we were expecting 300k and it does 250k is that a huge enough deviation to state undershipped?

Some of the posts in here make me think otherwise.

But given the scarcity worldwide of the system, there was no "better market" to save consoles for where they were going to sell more... they have sold just about everything, even the weaker EU region has had solid movement of stock.

Of course its undershipped. Just look two posts up. Demand when allocations were being divied was underestimated by Japanese retailers (who I wouldn't doubt had priority), and the launch has far exceeded that allocation and now even second wave reserves have been picked clean. There is no clearer sign of undershipped with heavy demand.

I know Nintendo release their end of year financial reports around July but when do we usually hear about their forcasts for the next year, same time? Will be interesting to see what their goals are.

They certainly overshipped randomly here in Italy. I don't think there's a single store where you can't find the console.

By the way, how would 250-275k compare to other Nintendo launches?

No. Nintendo's fiscal year ends in March. We should hear a full report towards the end of April.

I think the Switch screen manufacturers said they were told 10 million until the end of 2017, with potential for more if needed.
