The claim that this *competes* with Uncharted 4, visually, is whack. What Naughty Dog's doing is technically on another level compared to anything I've seen coming out from console developers so far. Hell, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a lot more impressive than this for its fantastic use of lighting and open, detailed environments.
The environments here lack detail, which may or may not be hidden in blur by all the heavy filters in use. Effects-wise, it's an impressive game, but everything else, from animations, to character/environment textures, to lighting, to -dare I say it- design of the game world itself, pales in comparison to what those two games are doing. Bear in mind that I'm actually anticipating this game, and that I'm completely open to revise my judgement of it once I get to play it. Gameplay looks fun with all the time-altering powers and dashing.
We'll see.

I'm curious now. How exactly is that?
If you're talking about graphics only, then you may be right but gunplay and gameplay is better in Remedy's games. This is where Naughty Dog can't match Remedy's.
After watching the video previews, i'm convinced this will be fucking amazing to me ! The time manipulation, the powers etc. look like a blast to play !

I felt Alan Wake played like any old average TPS game, nothing amazing or unmatchable about it, and the same goes for Uncharted games.
I think Alan Wake is leagues better in mechanics than Uncharted but I believe people are most likely referring to Max Payne 3.
Based on what I've seen of Uncharted 4, it features fantastically-rendered and animated character models, down to the last detail, moderately open environments chock-full of not only static detail, but animation and physics-based detail as well... It's just a much better-looking package, in my eyes. Last year's E3 extended demo (watch out for spoilers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pumJtpbvCc0) basically cemented my judgement for this game: I still haven't seen anything like it, on consoles.
Maybe the other game that has caused such an impression on me is Guerrilla's Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Funny how that is, considering I am pretty sure the old MC was not done from a scan?
what, specifically?
You're talking in visual terms yet you haven't used any visual terms...I'm totally talking in visual terms... Never mentioned gameplay, which I understand Remedy has no problem getting right.

e: haven't played any Uncharted games in a long time, though
Well, that's your opinion and i respect that. I had a blast with both Alan Wake and American Nightmare. I just cameback to these games after i finished them, something i haven't done for Uncharted. It's kinda hard to explain how Remedy has that unique touch, you gotta play their games to understand. Some people get hooked, like me, and some others not so much.

I've seen the demo, but I'm not seeing anything that blows QB out of the water, many of the tech employed seems quite similar to be honest, even down to the level of detail, for instance when large columns get shot and shattered pieces fall down, and similar levels of shadow/ao pop in and so on...
The UC4 demo showed some apparently open area, but Remedy's engine is "open world ready" since Alan Wake, and there have been glimpses of open areas as well.
As for the characters, they are both very detailed, but I dunno whether it's a tech difference or just artistic, but uncharted models look instantly like they are computer generated for me, QB characters seems all more natural (though QB is going for complete look alikeness which is not the case with Uncharted), and as evident by the gifs and videos, they have some very impressive facial tech going on.
Imo, at least for now they are both employing a polish and attention to detail above most of the others, but for me the results seem eerie similar, even if there are a few standout differences... Obviously when they are both out it will be easier to drawn such comparisons but I doubt any will blow the other away.
Which is probably implemented here, since DX12 made it easier to undertake this.Maybe GPGPU?
Quoting for new page because god damn. Really impressive stuff.
Something about bullet projectiles really gets me. Max Payne, SuperHOT, where you get to see the trajectory all the way is fascinating.
This game goes all out on particle FX.
Love that shoulder bash to shotgun combo.

Considering we keep getting told by every man and his dog that Xbox is weak hardware, can't do 1080p etc, I thought that looked incredible. The lighting looks a step above anything on XB1 yet.The colour palette reminds me of Mirrors Edge too. I thought it was very nice.
Gonna check out more outdoors segments.

This is actually by design; we transition to aim camera in a few frames so it feels responsive.
Uh you cannot use an example such as Vanquish.
It has pleasing animations but they are not realistic in the least bit, there is no animation priority as that game prioritises control over animation. It's why animations start and finish so quickly (leading to unrealistic animations).
You know why you sometimes get the sliding animation in Uncharted? It's because that game tries to prioritise controls while hitting a middle ground with accuracy of animation and in doing so it will at times speed up the animations resulting in a sliding appearance.
The entire reason completely realistic animation lead to "bad" controls is because you cannot cancel, undo or speed up an animation that is already happening and as such you have to wait until it's over completely for the new input to be registered. And because these games have characters moving at a realistic pace the time it takes for these animations is long.
Edit:
And there you go, the speculation was confirmed.
I think this might be exacerbated by the player being shit and tapping the button repeatedly.
I for one am overjoyed that it clearly doesn't have a hard-lock cover system and instead it's soft-lock, which lets you move away from/around cover while crouched without any restrictions. I'm amazed no action games have taken this approach, it's so clearly the best way. (TLoU had it this way but it was mainly a stealth game.) The biggest offender is GTA 4 and 5 which lock you to cover even though every gunfight in those games is 360-degrees so you always get shot in the back/side and can't move away from/around cover easily.
Who has the stronger reality distortion field, Jack Joyce or Naughty Dog?
Well if Uncharted 4 is pushing the PS4 hard, then we know Xbox can't quite match it because 1.8 Teraflops are much more than the 1.2 Quantum Break has available to shine on xbone.I've seen the demo, but I'm not seeing anything that blows QB out of the water, many of the tech employed seems quite similar to be honest, even down to the level of detail, for instance when large columns get shot and shattered pieces fall down, and similar levels of shadow/ao pop in and so on...

It definitely looks better than TO, TO looks good obviously but the scale is pathetic, QB looks as good with a much bigger scale, effects, physics, it blows TO 1886.
U4 is a different story, I don't know which looks better, each has their own strong points, but even if U4 looks better, it's by points, not knockout, QB is at the top visually alongside U4 imo.
Since when did Teraflops = better graphics?
That's a new one to me.
More processing power usually translates into improvements in different aspects of the game, usually it is graphics because pretty pixels sell games more than smarter AI.
The Order looks way better. Scale is of course different, but in a pure visual standpoint, The Order is on a whole different league.
Oh, is there any footage without the HUD? Will there be an option to turn it off?
Yes. We have that option.
In what way specifically? The Order looks way better. Scale is of course different, but in a pure visual standpoint, The Order is on a whole different league.
They both look amazing and if UC4 does look any better its probably in smaller areas or just does something different that works for its art style. Seems like Remedy went with a very realistic art style which is nice.
The U4 e3 demo is also not very representative of the scale of the game. It's one large set piece, and apparently one of if not the largest one iirc. The non driving parts were very limited compared to the forest area.U4 E3 demo is not a small area. You should check NX Gamer video analysis and see how much stuff is going on. And also PSX demo is pretty big with multiple ways to finish level. According to videos, i think QB is more linear game than U4.
