This is great. A way to hurt the freedom caucuss in 2018 and destroy any chance of trump getting any of his awful policies through at the same time

Hahaha.

The only reason you would burn bridges in the right is if you hadn't burned bridges on the left. But oops... you're Trump.

Says he wants Freedom Caucus on their team then the next sentence says "We must fight them." Trump is going to go down as the least effective president ever.

Hopefully the Caucus gets voted out in 2018 than never returns. Their far right ideology wont get them far with the established republicans or a president thats not even a real conservative like Ted Cruz. Their best best is to get Trump impeached in favor for Pence. Even still, I don't expect them to be around in 2020.

What is freedom caucus?

Taken from Wikipedia:

The Freedom Caucus, also known as the House Freedom Caucus, is a congressional caucus consisting of conservative Republican members of the United States House of Representatives. It was formed in 2015 by what member Jim Jordan called a "smaller, more cohesive, more agile and more active" group of conservative Congressmen.

Many members are also part of the Republican Study Committee, another conservative House group. The caucus is sympathetic to the Tea Party movement.

The House Freedom Caucus does not disclose the names of its members. In the current (115th) Congress, the group has about three dozen members. A number of members have identified themselves, or have been identified by others, as members of the Freedom Caucus, as of March 2017 including:

Mark Meadows of North Carolina, Chairman, 2017–present
Justin Amash of Michigan
Brian Babin of Texas
Joe Barton of Texas
Andy Biggs of Arizona
Rod Blum of Iowa
Dave Brat of Virginia
Jim Bridenstine of Oklahoma
Mo Brooks of Alabama
Ken Buck of Colorado
Warren Davidson of Ohio
Ron DeSantis of Florida
Scott DesJarlais of Tennessee
Jeff Duncan of South Carolina
Trent Franks of Arizona
Tom Garrett Jr. of Virginia
Louie Gohmert of Texas
Paul Gosar of Arizona
Morgan Griffith of Virginia
Andy Harris of Maryland
Jody Hice of Georgia
Jim Jordan of Ohio, Chairman, 2015–2017
Raúl Labrador of Idaho
Alex Mooney of West Virginia
Gary Palmer of Alabama
Steve Pearce of New Mexico
Scott Perry of Pennsylvania
Bill Posey of Florida
Mark Sanford of South Carolina
David Schweikert of Arizona
Randy Weber of Texas
Ted Yoho of Florida

The FC represents a pretty significant chunk of the house of representatives(30+) that were against the bill and no matter how many backroom "negotiating/blackmailing" that occurred prior to the vote, they refused to kiss the ring.

Thus Trump is following the only strategy he knows. Throw a hissyfit until he gets what he wants, which is hopefully to install future yes-men by calling out all whom oppose his will.
The Republicans are screwed. The only way they can execute their agenda is by dismantling Dem policies. If they can't do that then they can't get anything done. Trump can still do stuff via executive orders but all that can be reversed easily by a Dem president. If Dems win the house in 2018 and it's looking likely right now, Trump will end up being a very poor president who couldn't get anything significant passed. I was worried that since they control all branches of gov't they can do a lot of things but FC shows us that the GOP can't unify. Boehner was right.

Wasn't the freedom caucus the main thorn in Obama's side all these years? Establishment GOP loved them back then. Seems funny that the main part of the party that always screamed "No" is now biting them in the ass.

Best case scenario where the GOP doesn't get much done in two years and Dems taking back at least the house in 2018 doesn't sound unreasonable anymore!

Please and thank you.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Yea, Boehner was fully aware of the systemic flaws in his own party and got out knowing full well it's inability to properly function on the track they are headed. Boehner himself hated the HFC(and the feeling was mutual) as his strategy was one of compromise over obstruction(comparatively).

I believe Ryan fears the power manifested in the ranks and fully knows he gets squashed under heel between a president and the HFC that will not bend to anything but their own will(and they do differ somewhat). It's unsustainable entirely and its being proven in this power shift.

Trump hijacked the Republican Party himself, so the irony here is extremely rich.

Here's to hoping he alienates enough Republicans so that votes on things like a release of his taxes and an investigation into him begin to pass.

They are already heading down the path of becoming the most dysfunctional congress in history, despite the R's having control of the house, senate and presidency. Everyone is in political "last stand" fight mode, which means little to no compromising. The last 8 years the R's blamed Obama for the dysfunction, now they're on full display for the world to see...with no safety net.

This is, like, the tenth time since the election that I've looked back on Paul Ryan bragging about a "newly united Republican party" after Trump won and just laugh.

You do know threatening your own party isn't going to work? Fight democrats? I thought you wanted to work with us?

MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MIND YOU LUNATIC! Its all you do is change your views on anything. Its like a fart in the wind to you.

How long is it gonna take these people to figure out that Trump is loyal only to himself?

Let's not go that far. Yes, the Freedom Caucus did help swat down bad legislation, but they aren't our friends, nor are they friends among their own blind supporters.

I feel you don't fully understand that phrase. It doesn't imply that the enemy of your enemy is in lockstep with you, just that you have a common foe. And that's absolutely the truth with the Freedom Caucus. It's much better to have them in Congress as obstructionists than it would be to have ordinary Republicans who stick to the party line.

"Democrats fall in love. Republicans fall in line". This was said many a time on GAF. Do you still believe this?

During and election, yes. If anything, the current shit show and infighting proves that regardless of how internally broken they are, they can still fall in line to prevent a dem being elected.

The fact that Scott DesJarlais is even still in the House just shows people are idiots. He was exposed for his completely unconservative lifestyle and yet he still gets votes. He had a mistress and had her abort a baby but is pro-life.

Isn't t_d all about the Freedom Caucus, or am I mistaken? How the hell do you reconcile that cognitive dissonance?

Didn't you hear, projection is an official part of the platform now, fam!

So what does a Republican Trump supporter do now? Do they just fall for the usual 1984ish Doublethink and go "Yeah! He's right, I HATE those extreme right wing conservatives and always have! MODERATES ALL THE WAY!"

Or do they think "Wait, no, I agree with those guys. Trump is WRONG."

If anything, there's nothing more conservative than being a massive hypocrite who does what they're trying to stop other people from doing.

What's that famous quote? Never interfere when your enemy is making a mistake?

If he wants to turn conservatives against him who are we stop him?
