Gall wanted to finish KO/TKO him. He could've subbed Punk in 30 seconds.

This. Doesn't matter if Punk had stayed back or pushed forward. A BJJ brown belt would've had him on his back within 10 seconds regardless. The fight could have ended very rapidly but Gall obviously wanted to beat him up a bit to make the mismatch that much more evident.
