Dispensing with the pretense of legitimacy and embracing the pure carnival joy that comes from human cockfighting leads to the most enjoyable events too. RIZIN just put on the best card of the year, and the post-match angle with Gabi Garcia and Jazzy Alpha Female made that potential showdown far more exciting than anything the Ultimate has on the docket for 2017.

Totally agree. Rizin was entertaining as hell.

I discredit Conor for getting force fed an easy title shot without totally earning it. Then not defending it and running to another division. No other fighter has had anywhere near the pull McGregor has had in such a short period in time. He didn't earn it on fight skill, he earned it with his mouth.

Bullshit. His skill is not questionable at this point, and pulling in 1.5mil+ PPV buys matters when this is first and foremost an entertainment business. If you want utmost legitimacy or whatever stick to watching submission tournaments.

As a fellow viewer from the bygone era of sumo wrestlers fighting board breakers, I have to agree 100% with this, dream. Baruto-san brought us back to our roots.

This is such a load of horse shit it's not even worth picking apart.

Conor had an amazing 2016. He fought tough fights. He fought exciting fights. He sold the fuck out of his fights. He won titles at two weight classes. He didn't disappoint at any step. Anyone trying to find reasons to hate on that is simply irrational.

Doris would be proud of this post.

Of course it's questionable. Look at how Mendes (who fought on short notice) ragdolled him before gassing out late in the round. That was a clear blueprint on how easy McGregor can be beat. Mendes on a full fight camp easily wins that fight and there is not McGregor hype train. The moment McGregor fights a legit grappler it's over for him. They will GSP the shit out of him and he won't be able to overcome it.

He accomplished a great deal but had a ton of opportunity handed to him for something he didn't initially earn. His fights before the Mendes, Aldo and Diaz fights were anything but impressive. It was his trashtalk that made them worth watching with underwhelming performances.

You are straight up delusional and blinded by your dislike of Conor. Give it up.

You guys sound like all the Rousey supporters before the Holm fight proper her up as unbeatable and such a beast, ignoring the obvious and only looking at the money they bring in and not the overall fight skill

He lost a fight this year. Why would anybody act like he's unbeatable? Where is anyone making that argument?

Who did Conor beat in the top 5 to earn a title shot??? Nobody, he bypassed all of them. That's not delusion. That's the UFC creating a hype train like they did with Brock.

You mean it's the UFC operating as they always have, only now it's somehow bad for business and hurts their credibility? Makes sense.

who else bypassed top 5 fighters outside of Brock to earn a titleshot? just curious. On top of that all past champs actually defended the belt and at least attempted to clear out the division. This dude could care less about any of that.

What the fuck... Conor lost a fight this year and ran that shit back immediately, unlike Ronda who ran into a hole and hid for a year. No one here is saying he's unbeatable.

Conor and Brock draw numbers. That lets them fight who they want. This is how the UFC works and will always work.

Cody Garbrandt. (Cruz chose him over fighting a TJ rematch)
BJ Penn
Holy Holm (Rousey singled her out over being the only undefeated in the division at the time)
Bisping (Bisping earned a titleshot over controversial wins and a injured Weidman not available)
Henderson
Nick Diaz (?)
..
..

Your are making zero sense here.

Remember when they gave Randy Couture a heavyweight title shot after he'd been retired for two years? They've given undeserved title shots plenty of times.

Conor beat Jose Aldo, Nate Diaz, and Eddie Alvarez with a year's time. Jose hadn't lost in 10 years, Nate is an incredibly tough matchup for Conor and he still beat him cleanly the second time, and Eddie Alvarez hadn't been KO'd ever.

Anyone from MMA-GAF knows I was critical of Conor for a while but if you doubt what he's done at this point you're just in denial. Dude is legit, and unlike say Chael Sonnen, he backs up all his talk.

I like Chael though. Dude is a great coach.

Dan Henderson REALLY EARNED THAT MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLESHOT RIGHT GUYS?

Cmon bro.

UH NO

*cough*

None, nope.

very true. nobody earns shit in the UFC no more LOL.... I will humbly eat my words here and ride along the McGregor hype train till he loses to Khabib. Then you know I'll humbly return to bash him.

Aiii

So not worth it
Conor beat two divisions champions. Solidly with finishes. But obviously he has to still prove himself worthy. Because everyone knows both of them were paper champions with no skill at all. It doesn't matter who he did not fight. He fought that #1s and won. Done.

You are being ridiculous.

Not just ridiculous, but a troll using revisionist logic to carry endless salt across multiple pages now.
