A great line-up, for sure. Not a lot that screamed next-gen or shut up the console-war debate, to be sure (and the games that were cross-gen tended to show it) but at least we can stop fantasizing that some future showcase is going to "reveal the true power of next-gen" and actually enjoy the next-gen that we are getting right now.

Wasn't impressed. Lots of generic stuff. Don't care about Phantasy Star Online - give me PS 5.

The Medium looks cool, but that's about it.

Nice that Xbox owners are getting Dragon Quest XI though, that game is great.

Yet one show is 8.5-9 and the other 4.5-5?
That's the Gaf, right there.

Just because they have the same quantity doesn't mean they have the same quality. This show was shit, and Microsoft should be embarrassed.

You know, that wouldn't be bad if it was a small game of a small studio. But that's FUCKIN HALO. Look at those trees. The foliage. Dammit the whole thing looks like an XBox One S game. Hell, there are better looking games on the S.

What the fuck is going on here.

Apparently this guy stole 500 million budget, that's why

Show is pretty awful overall, however avowed and stalker 2 are two of the games that I am most hyped to play beyond 2021, forza, fable is also games that I am moderately looking forward to. Sucks it's only for xbox as I really wanna see more of their PC exclusives side.

Unbelievable! A comment that is objective and has logic? No wet dreams of games created by God? No console war linguistic? No hypocrisy? Impressive!

But Sony have nothing to prove its Microsoft who do. They didn't show Horizon 2 or Demon's Souls gameplay but they just released 2 AAA games that reviewed and sold very well, 1 being a new IP while the other being a sequel. They showed Ratchet gameplay which to be honest looks better graphically than any gameplay shown from Microsofts exclusives. This isn't the time for Microsoft to show CG trailers especially after Phantom Dust reveal.

It's strange not a single new AAA first party gameplay reveal other than Halo Infinite which looks so average. And remember Halo 5 and 4 they weren't the best sequels from fans opinions so why should we be hyped. Didn't the director leave the studio, why Microsoft have a plan to add stuff later like ray tracing in this game, is this just being rushed out to hit launch.
So when playground or turn 10 released a great game that meant Microsoft had nothing to prove lol. Every company every generation has something to prove. If naughty dog had a launch ps5 game we be talk now but we have seen nothing from them same for sucker punch. Yet again your comparing an established team who had made top notch games with a possible remake lol. Neither company has a 9-9-99 lineup. Nextgen won't really start until late 2021 or early 2022 when games like hell blade 2 and horizon 2 come out. Until then it is cross generation type games like halo and spiderman dlc.

I wanted to see hellblade 2 as that at least is true next gen and would have set the bar of what to expect.

You know, I actually am glad they DIDN'T showcase Hellblade 2.

There's been a lot of pressure on that game to be this fabled "true next-gen", and while the visuals will certainly be up there (the first game was a beauty, and yet it got it to run on the freaking Switch,) but the gameplay of Hellblade is too intimate and purposeful (assuming it follows the path of into sequel and isn't some massive jump up in scale) to stand up to it being some AAA demands of massive worlds and varied gameplay.

Microsoft might have made a little mistake letting Series X be debuted with Hellblade. (Sony avoided that problem and let a third party be the PS5 game at Game Awards.) It was for sure the mindblowing next-gen graphics showcase that we all needed at that time, but just for the sake of Hellblade itself as a franchise, it probably would have been for the best not to have put it on a pedestal that EVERY gamer will need to play. So I think MS and Ninja Theory wisely course-corrected here by not showcasing Hellblade and instead slipping it off to a Developer Diary section, so people can get acquainted with the heart of Hellblade while other games distract them from their hype fever dreams; fans can go get their fancy graphics, but they're not going to be driven into a frothing frenzy for a game that is (I assume still is, in the sequel?) meant to be played in a different mood. If Hellblade II ups the ante over the original game and really does play in the AAA playground, then even better, but if not, let Hellblade be Hellblade.

So, you have played any of these?

Irrelevant. We are judging the presentation content at face value, and little to nothing of substance was shown. Halo: Infinite, the posterchild for MS's next generation, looked like a Xbox One (non XB1X) title, with nothing new to speak of that hasn't already been done a hundred times before. The goal of a reveal is to get people excited. Look around you. People are laughing.

And as sad as that is, Halo was the highlight of the show to many people. Contrast that to Sony's presentation and excellent PR to date.

What struck me on the Halo demo was the fog popping in and out in the distance, looked really bad to me. I was hoping 12TF and SSDs would get rid of this shit.

12TF and SSDs can get rid of it. It's that MS is banking on cross-gen support to keep that sweet gamepass money coming in. They're willing to sacrifice street cred for sake of milking the Xbox One until it has nothing left in the udder.

H:I is an Xbox One title through and through. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, shown of it thus far couldn't be accomplished on Xbox One ... which is why it's an Xbox One title too.

Welcome Microsoft to the 8. generation of gaming?
I have played FF7 remake, TloU Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima this year and all these games looked more next gen than what I have seen today I linked some ingame gameplay GIF's below. So far it looks like Cyberpunk is the only reason to upgrade my PC.

Couldnt find GIF's of the gameplay we have seen today for comparison. Maybe someone can do their own and quote this for comparison.

It didn't sold me on buying a Series X, but i'm happy to be a Gamepass subscriber. Tons of cool games with nearly all of them having PC releases. Gamepass is an amazing value and i'll stay a subscriber as long as the quality holds up.

Which is the number 1 reason to go with Xbox. Many games at launch, good value.

Speaking of Game Pass...are all Xbox Game Studios titles expected to be available day one on Game Pass for PC?

This is common sense even Phil Spencer agreed they lacked exclusive games last gen. Sony's lineup last gen had so many good sellers, so many games reviewing well and so many games that were game of the year nominees. Microsoft other than Forza Horizon series they haven't done as well this generation.

Alot of Microsoft games look so far out, when is Hellblade 2 coming, when is Obsidian new RPG coming, when is Everwild coming.

Microsoft have a history of telling and not showing. After CG reveal of Phantom Dust then game getting cancelled they shouldnt be doing a CG trailer.

We don't even know the scope of these games, remember ReCore got announced with from the makers of Metroid Prime, then we late found out it was a average lower budget game. I just can't trust Microsoft. Remember when Phil Spencer said he doesn't like time exclusives well how many we got here lol.

Microsoft have alot to prove and they didn't do anything to win me over. You can hype up Everwild but I don't even know the gameplay loop of that game, or what genre it even is.

If say Naughty Dog revealed a new IP with no gameplay, we can get hyped because that developer has released quality games Last of Us 2 was recent. I'll give you a example Sucker Punch made inFamous Second Son which was average at best, if they made a CG trailer I would t get hyped because they don't have my trust, however when they showed Ghost of Tsushima the first time it was straight up gameplay which looked great and got me hyped.

Their biggest game Halo Infinite just looked awful.

Phil Spencer has been telling us to get hyped and promising they will do better with games for the last 5 years and nothing has changed and this hasn't changed anything for me personally.

Nothing you're saying is validating your position. This reveal was a joke. And I don't even like Sony.

Why lead the reveal your next generation system, something we've been waiting on for so many years, with a cross-gen title? It's insipid.

As for people laughing at Sony's conference? Dude, look at "like/dislike" ratios on YouTube. The gaming community simply liked the PS5 over your preferred console. It's okay to come in second.

Because it doesn't matter if its cross gen or not. It's Halo. A big IP. It will move consoles. Also didn't Sony start with GTA V? lmfao

I have to admit that I was very disappointed that there were no Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake or similar single-player Star Wars RPG during this presentation. I was hoping for it.

Gamepass is the winner of this conference honestly. This is Microsoft focus. To sell the service not to sell you the console. That’s the company message that they keep repeating in every interview. Play on anything, player choice etc. This is not old gen. Now what Phill said about Amazon and not Sony being a competitor make since. They don’t care if you bought an Xbox Series X or not. Just subscribe to Gamepass. That’s why it doesn’t make since to make Xbox Series X only game because you’ll exclude current customers.

I've no fucking idea how a game poised to be a next gen launch game - or hell, even a end of the generation AAA First party game - can look just as good as PS4 launch game.

Like, what? Is it wrong that I expected more from a HALO game of all things?

Is this incompetence, or merely squeezing in the game for Gamepass so therefore they must scale back for monetary reasons?

Screw it, no Xbox for me this gen either then. Not until their "no exclusives for the first two year" period is over and I can finally see what all this hurrah about how powerful the console is.

To think this was Microsofts second big showing, i wonder what they're thinking? I keep hoping they're holding the big hitters back but they showed Forza, Halo and Fable so....

I've got an X, that looks like it still has plenty of life left in it. No need to pick up an XSX

For those gamers like me who don't have an XB1X, picking up the XSX to play all of the last generation, and the previous one before that, along with all the new generation XB Studio games ( and Sega's Phantasy Star Online 2) on Gamepass, it's too hard to not picking up XSX day-1.

I don't blame you. The X1x on it's own is an amazing step up from the Xbone, i can't imagine how blown away you will be if you upgrade from Xbone to XSX.

The value for money on offer in the Microsoft camp is phenomenal

EA owns the rights to the star wars IP. We would all love the game but it be like expecting an exclusive batman game. We got a Sky Rim like RPG from obsidian entertainment that should be enough to get any RPG fan excited. Between inexile, playground rpg and obsidian entertainment we should get lots of RPG love coming in the future.

Just as I was afraid, very little gameplay, many trailers and CGI... Halo was undoubtedly the biggest letdown, they should've leave that once they have implemented RT, but I'm not even interested in that franchise so I couldn't care less, few games cought my attention and I definitely wan't to see the gameplays (hopefully soon):

- Stalker 2 was a surprise I won't lie, brought back some really nice memories,
- Forza Motorsport, that's what I was looking forward to the most, and sadly all I got was an in-engine trailer :/
-The Gunk reminds me a lot of Kena, but the latter takes my heart I'm afraid,
- The Medium, game of the show hands down,
- CrossfireX looks dope AF, a shooter with Remedy involved into it, nothing more needs to be added.

So yeah, decent show, if we put all 3 together (4 including Ubi's Forward), then I think everyone will be able to pick a bunch of titles for himself. And EA and Bethesda surely still have something to show as well, right?

Halo looked great (much to my relief). Could have used some gameplay on other titles, but it looks like a nice, varied lineup overall.

Pretty good show, except that Microsoft (like Sony) is under the delusion that we only want to see CGI concept trailers...
...or maybe I'm the delusional one, and that is what most gamers want. *shrug*

On the negative side, I will say that Everwild looks incredibly unappealing, and I sincerely hope it's just a side project and Rare has something else up their sleeves. For whatever reason, that strikes the hate chord in my petty little heart something fierce, except for that bit where she comes out of the forest holding the baby giraffe Pokemon ofc.

This has been the same issue plagueing game announcements for at least 5 years or so now. Enough with the non-gameplay trailers.

Did not expect much so I was more or less satisfied. Also not surprised: coming here and seeing usual dingdongs playing the same pencildick flute.

Halo might not look next gen but the gameplay felt great - the sound of guns, explosions and the impact just felt really satisfying. Considering it is an open world game, I think we are in for some nice surprises.

Stalker 2 is a huge deal and can't wait to see more of Obsidian's RPG as well as Fable.

But, yeah, could have one or two less cgi trailers

Yeah. Sony started the conference with the best selling game of all time, by dollars sold. Halo has been steadily dropping in sales and relevancy.
  • Halo 3: 14 million
  • Halo 4: 9.75 million
  • Halo 5: 5 million
To suggest Halo still has the selling power it once did is ludicrous. Halo 5 didn't even break the top 10 in games sold in 2015. They would have fared better to just pay off Infinity Ward and get some X-exclusive Call of Duty content.

To contrast, GTAV has sold 130 million copies by itself. Keep making fun of Sony. They at least know which end is up.
