Fun game, I really enjoyed it. I don't think this game running at 8K/60 makes any difference over 4K/60 though, 4K 120fps would make way more sense and would be a much more noticeable improvement and require way less from the hardware.

Why would they? The Xbox version is great the switch version is great, the ps5 version is great. There is no need to fix anything. Shin'en tells us that in the case of its engine, the increase to clock frequencies and the difference in memory set-up makes the difference. Beyond this, rather than just porting the PS4 version to PS5, Shin'en rewrote the engine to take advantage of PS5's low-level graphics APIs.
You seem to be confused. He, as in the developer, was the one who told DF he rewrote the engine specifically for PS5 as opposed to porting the PS4 version. He said the clock frequencies and the memory setup made a difference, yes. But that isn't all he said. Do you know what he means by memory setup? Series X memory is asymmetric 10GB @ 560GB/s 6GB @ 336GB/s. PS5 is a flat 16GB at 448GB/s. It means the memory management is just plain easier on PS5 compared to Series X.

Series X got a native series x port of the Xbox One X game version of the game at launch without the added benefit of an engine rewrite to better exploit the hardware. PS5 isn't running a native port of the last gen game. And just so you know, there's a 90.2% pixel pushing advantage in favor of 8K compared 6K. Do you seriously believe that the console with the weaker overall GPU and also the least amount of memory bandwidth actually holds a 90% performance advantage regardless of the game? Not even in this game with this engine is such a thing realistic.
Both consoles run the game at a flawless 4K 120fps, not a single drop. This fact alone should tell you all the performance necessary is actually there. Yet despite it running the 6K mode at a similarly flawless 60fps without a hitch, you believe with a similar engine rewrite for Series X, it wouldn't also run at 8K? I mean it's fine if you want to believe that. They simply found it easier to fit the 8K internal resolution of the game into the PS5's flat 16GB of ram at 448GB/s. For Series X where the GPU operates at its fastest only within that 10GB block at 560GB/s, the developer would need to be more methodical with memory management to maximize performance.
And to further make my point, an 8GB 1070 Ti with a boost clock up to 1746MHz also runs this game at 8K internal resolution mode at the game's 4K 60fps setting. That GPU has 128 more cores or ALUs compared to PS5 and 896 less cores or ALUs compared to Series X. The developer simply did what they had time to do, and what was easiest. You're probably thinking if Series X's GPU has 10GB and a clearly weaker 1070 Ti can have just 8GB and still run at 8K what's the issue? The issue is Series X isn't a PC. It needs to be rewritten to work in the way most advantageous to Series X's design. Full stop.

Nah not same scenario as in practice xsx has usualy higher pixel count around 25% but ps5 slight more stable fps (not too mention many games with parity and some when ps5 has higher res), is xox vs pro differences were defenitly biggerTouryst is exactly that kind of scenario, I mean, it's a Switch game after all, it lushes nothing but pure polygons, there are no advanced shaders, particles and so on. I'm playing Art of Rally and that's another example of very basic graphics that should work better on PS5. But other than that, in any modern title, even cross-gens, this kind of design solution simply doesn't work that well, we're already seeing games regularly being rendered at 1400-1600p on PS5 vs 1800p-4K on XSX (so same scenarios as Pro vs 1X basically), where in theory it's the PS5 that should've push higher resolutions thanks to it's high frequencies, fillrate etc., but that's simply not the case, because there's way more in modern rendering than nust polygons.
Speaking of the game itself, while downsampling is nice, I've beed doing it on PC throughout entire OS4/XB1 gen, I highly recommend the 120FPS mode - the game still looks stunning but runs sooo damn smooth instead. And I hope the dev's mentioned next project is the sequel, because the game is absolutely amazing and I'd love to experience more of this stuff.
