Microsoft President Brad Smith: Not only will COD will continue to be on Playstation, we'd like to bring it to Nintendo devices

Its seems more like this is putting sony fanboys over the edge, its causing them to have delusions that this some kind of loss for Xbox and win for PlayStation 😆

Because of crossplay you going to have Xbox COD players telling there PS friends how they get cod for "free" with gamepass and they dont have to shell out $70 each time.
How is this not a loss for xbox, just another compelling reason not to bother buying one, we've had clowns here saying every single PS4 owner that doesn't already have a PS5 is going to game on xbox or PC because of this FFS.

It is a win for Microsoft though.

It might be, but having the constant reminder that COD is on gamepass and its £70 on PS is pretty compelling for XBOX.
At least as far we know Microsoft have the benefit of putting acti-blizz games on game pass, where as at the moment there seems to be no incentive to play Bungie games on PS over Xbox.

I wouldn't be bragging about renting a game for $15 a month when that's what most of them just play

Most of them? U got data to support they would not be interested in other games on gamepass?

Also they would be paying $5/month anyway for xbox live gold. So for these only cod players (lol) it would $130/yr or $180/yr for GPU, where they get loads of more games.

I kinda agree. Making COD exclusive would’ve boosted Xbox sales like crazy. But MS will still use Gamepass to make Xbox and PC seem like a better place to be. And it’s both clever and a bit evil. Like I bet more people here actually played MLB on Xbox than PS because of the sneaky Gamepass stunt. And if COD, Diablo, etc will be on Gamepass day one then you can bet the positive word of mouth will spread fast, and if you can’t get Gamepass on PS… Well. That’s that.

I was giving you the response those "PS friends" are going to come back with.

Most ps fans are not like forum dwellers.

Most gamers can see the value in gamepass. Your average cod player will play a few different games and spend money on microtransactions.

I can see them touching the stuff for the simple fact that it's there to touch in the first place like I did. But they'll just go back to playing COD and the like predominately and forget them.

Well we just have to agree to disagree on the prevalence of the COD only gamer.

Anyway only a COD noob would use ps4/5 controller 😋, symmetrical sticks and bulky daulsense feel 🤮

That's just how it is with subscription services. It's a good value for smart people. Bad value for the dumb ones who'll just let it run for months or even years on end without touching anything.

Most of those casuals will end up in the latter

I haven't read through all the posts, so it's possible I missed something. But seeing this post from you is interesting.

You acknowledge that this would be a significant loss to Xbox, as there would be little reason for getting one if they did so. Seems logical so far.

Where the wheels fall off is the part where you actually believe MS have just up and decided to sacrifice it's entire Xbox division, by making such a move.

MS and Sony may have had some discussions about being more open and friendly in order to keep the other tech giants at bay in gaming. But if that were the case, then it would go both ways.

Like it or not, MS has an established foothold in the gaming console market. Just about every other giant tech company on earth outside of Sony and Nintendo would chew off their right arm to be in that position. Amazon surely would, as would Google, Apple, Meta, Epic, Samsung, or hell... Even Tencent.

But you think MS doesn't recognize this, and is perfectly fine burning it down in order to become what is basically a third party publisher. That's a pretty terrible prediction on it's own, and that's not even mentioning that this is all occurring immediately after they acquired on of the larger publishers in Bethesda, and in the midst of acquiring one of the largest publishers in all of gaming.

His logic is incredibly short sited what about the games and universe these teams they’re getting will make in the future everyone’s so fixated on call of duty. What if infinity ward to sledgehammer creates a new IP or even treyarch that becomes more popular in the future those won’t be on PlayStation.

Free? How? You just proved my point too. Look how bitter you sound. Why you mad about this news?

If I didn't use MS Rewards to pay for my Game Pass then I certainly would not stay subscribed all the time. The "value" is entirely subjective. Right now, there isn't much on Game Pass I want to play which is fine since I'll be playing HFW starting next week. As of now, I've used MS Rewards points to pay through May. Whether I use more points to renew my sub or hold off until Starfield to resubscribe just depends. Like you said, this is just how subscriptions work and if people are smart then they will take advantage of it for games they want to play rather than letting the subscription dictate what games they will play.

I've been in this camp since Minecraft that MS has an end goal to be a publisher of big games with GP as the value.

I have a feeling I'll be referencing this comment in the future:

The value of CoD as a fps franchise greatly diminished when Sony announced their partnership with Deviation Games to develop a AAA first person shooter. Assuming 2023 CoD is current gen only, this (2022) will be the last year CoD tops sales chart.

It’s going to be hilarious when Deviation’s game doesn’t end up being a FPS.

Hopefully it will be a great game, but I don't see anything diminishing the popularity of Call of Duty.

This is not what they’re doing. Leaving their live service games on other platforms is good PR. They’re aren’t telling you all activision blizzard games are going mulipatform why are people behaving like they said this? 😂 what drugs are you smoking if you think that another shooter is going to take the top spot from call of duty in a year or two. That next gen call of duty will outsell every game this fall.

Couldn't be any clearer than this. This is not Phil here. This is the MS president himself.

Not only are COD games staying on Playstation but they're coming to Switch as well.

It's obvious they just want to make as much money as possible.

Philll decide ultimately.

Maybe?

COD is getting really long in the tooth and nothing stays on top forever. So yeah, maybe Sony's new shooter is on top in the next couple of years, but maybe something else takes the crown.

CoD and Battlefield have had virtually no competition. For all of the flack BF2042 received, it was still top 5 in sales for 2021. I chalk this up 100% to lack of competition. The next generation Sony exclusive FPS will claim top position over whatever next gen equivalent there is for CoD. Period.

You are forgetting it will also be £70 on xbox for the millions of xbox owners that dont have gamepass either.

You lot go one like it has 100% take up, not the tiny fraction it is.

Nah, it’s just fun to see Xbox fans struggling to accept there won’t be any final blow on Sony.

You disappointed us once again leaving your fellow green rats hanging in the big thread. Given how vocal you were that MS had nothing to fear about regulation you should have been on the front lines
There were job postings for Deviation’s game that pointed it to being a co-op action RPG with some innovative network stuff going on. Not my fault warriors would rather believe Twitter hoaxers posting bullshit over what the developer was actually recruiting for.

No, I agree. They are not like forum dwellers. Neither are the Xbox fans playing COD. So I don't think most of them will be bragging or even talking about how much they paid in either case.

What?
You dont think ot come up in conversation?
I mean it does. Ive told people about Gamepass and there sold, getting cod, starfield, doom, forza etc etc for the cost of a few pints is really preferable over shelling £70 for new games.

COD only gamers would be utterly stupid to pay for GP.

I didn't say this.

You have to read more carefully. I didn't say another shooter will overtake CoD in a year or two. I said assuming 2023 CoD is next gen only, it will not be the top selling game. Spiderman 2 will outsell 2023 CoD if 2023 CoD is next gen only.

You'll be referenced and laughed at. Call of duty will remain as the most popular FPS in the world. The first true current gen cod will be massive. Especially if Microsoft can actually improve it instead of being the same thing every year.

Okay that wasn't what I was talking about lmao

But you do realize an "action RPG" could literally be anything right? including an FPS

I mean no disrespect to Microsoft, but what recent history suggests they're capable of doing this?

Regardless, a 2023 next gen only CoD would have zero to do with Microsoft based on timeline.

Spider-Man 2 will outsell call of duty? 😂 are you high it didn’t outsell it this gen you think it’s going to outsell it next year when there aren’t enough PlayStation in the world and most of the people that have playstations now have them for call of duty?

Its not 100% attach rate it about 40% .

But gamepass with COD, starfield etc etc is an amazing deal and most people will choose it over buying the games out right.
