Usually the critic recommends is higher than the aggregate score on Opencritic but this sitting a 29% recommend is really bad.

eh, last year we had Metal: Hellsinger, Ghostwire Tokyo, Little Witch Nobeta, Triangle Strategy, Bayonetta 3, Kirby, Neon White, Tunic, A Plague Tale Requiem, Dying Light 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Teardown, Stray, Prodeus, Sonic Frontiers, Scorn, High on Life, probably some others i'm forgetting about.... all of similar or better quality than Forspoken.

We aren't exactly starving when it comes to these 'one off' games.
yeah a bunch of shit!!! /s
Ghostwire - I will someday play it. Got it on my shelf
Plague Tale - Might be one of best games of 2022 but I don't like stealth
Teardown - quality toy. Had a lot of fun with it in early access.

Not interested in other games on your list. Xenoblade, sonic, scorn, high on fail... nah thanks. I played these type of games 10x over. I did finished Scorn and it was ass. High on Life I couldn't do more than 3 hours.

I think we are starving for games. There were ALWAYS tons of games coming out each month. If I were to list every fucking indie and AA game released in 2011, that list would be 50x bigger than 2022.
Do not mix it with "I don't have anything to play".
Main 2011 games were:
Dark Souls - one of best games ever
Skyrim - one of best games ever
Saints Row3 - one of my personal favs ever
Gears3 - one of my personal favs ever
.... away with the rankings.....
Uncharted 3
Portal 2
Batman Arkham City
Dead Space 2
Rayman Origins
battlefield 3
Skyward Sword
L.A Noire
Deus Ex HR
Witcher 2
Bulletstorm
crysis 2
and a bunch of games of your caliber like Minecraft, kirby, terraria, bastion, Space Marine, Dragon Age 2 and a LOT LOT more.

I played and finished most these games and more in 2011.
I will give you that - 2022 ended up in an ok state near the end of the year but it's still nowhere near close. Market is just moving away from single player games.

Game seems to be selling well enough, and Octopath Traveler II is around the corner, which I bet that help them recover a bit from this.
SQEX always has to answer for bombs in their investment meetings. In the past they would blame it on western studios not meeting expectations. Now those studios are all sold.

Octopath will do a few million, which is great for a small game like that.

Luminous studios is definitely running out of chances though.

We get a new single player AAA game that does not have loot boxes, micro transactions and is not another 4 player coop unreal engine game…. And it gets criticised to hell for what?
Not having microtransactions, lootboxes or battlepasses does not automatically make your game worthy of an 80+. The fact you think it does though is proof that standards have fallen off a fucking cliff

6 out of 10 for ign....thats rough.

Bad times for what was a big game at the ps5 unveiling.

AAA gaming suffering.

I don't know what score this is worthy off.
But with fail of single player games and overly critical reception, we are assuring a future without single player games.
Death Stranding was a similar release. Just aswas tlou2. These found good success but people dogged on them while crappy lootbox games earn 100x more money

Seems that the game met a lot of hate and unfair criticism.

We really want only call of duty and UE looter shooters?!

And even graphics get a lot of hate when normally everyone says it doesn’t matter. I personally think the game looks great visually and I don’t mind the main character. I only played the demo and views are great. Combat and particle effects are standout too. Nothing average with this game.

As for gameplay, I’ve got my ps5 preorder coming tomorrow. No early shipment for me :(

Sorry, ‘hate’ won’t fly as an excuse anymore. It was one thing to fling it at forum users who aren’t professional reviewers, but the aggregated review opinions of professional reviewers can’t be simply dismissed as ‘hate’ or ‘console warring’.

hope you have fun with it when it arrives.

Thought the same when i saw forspoken.
Same here but when i thought about it... not really.
Magic based game in magic ass world? That's kinda unique.... in it's clicheness ?!
I've avoided some other open world AC games in recent years. Not a fan of open worlds... so maybe I am not overstuffed with this type of games

The same TLOU 2 that swept pretty much all game awards for 2020?

This year alone, we’ve got FFXVI, Starfield, Zelda, Spiderman 2, Harry Potter and many, many more as single player games. Just a few months ago, we had a Plagues Tale and GOW Ragnarok. What are you on about, to claim there’s some sort of bleak future for Single player games?

Death Stranding actually got good scores and the reception over it seems to be improving lately, so for all the hate its gotten at launch it's sure to be a cult classic

The difference between death stranding and forspoken was that Death Stranding did something new and made an attempt to innovate. It's probably the greatest walking simulator ever made from a mechanical standpoint, and that combined with the usually weird ass kojima story made it a VERY special, but polarizing game. If you're not into it, there's nothing for you. But if you're really into it, it could easily be one of your favorites

I can't think of anything that makes Forspoken unique or special. It's gonna fade away the same way greedfall and destruction all stars did

Eh, no, not really. Just last year i played LWN which had great magic combat, then also Elden Ring with magic builds. And we'll get Hogwarts Legacy in a few weeks, and Baldurs Gate 3 later this year

As i've said before, don't think Forspoken will be bad necessarely (even thought the game woud score around the 80s lol foolish me), but lets not pretend its some oasis in the middle of a dry endless desert as you're trying to convince us, and that calling out its flaws means you're some COD bro player.

Aight, watched 4-5 video reviews and after hearing all of them call out character and dialogue that feels like scraping my scrotum on a cheese grater, I cancelled my preorder. Oh well

Calm down. I'm talking about long prior to the game leaking. If you asked people a month or two ago, or even after the demo nobody would be voting in the 60's.
After the demo they would be thinking 50s.
The demo left more people unimpressed than impressed.

Let’s see if SE and other devs learn from this. Go woke get broke etc etc.

Worst protag/story for an AAA game this gen? Prob, as it stands HFW is taking that spot. 🤪

Woof at these scores.

Gamespot guy says he beat it in 12 hours.

I know we all want shorter games, but 12 hours for me is a weekend lol.

Don't think the budget for this would have been crazy high like Castillo Protocol's $180mil. Seems like they did nothing knew with the engine after XV (in fact this looks far worse on the eyes despite being a generation ahead). Game looks cheap and hardly AAA and with a lot of reptitive gameplay loops, environments etc..

But no doubt will be a commercial flop that won't go down well at S-E.

Sounds like it is a 'Gamepass game', I think I'll enjoy playing it eventually, but will happily wait until I can play it as part of a subscription (most likely PS+ I guess).

Exactly what I was thinking. I'll wait for it to show up on GP and then give it a shot. Who knows? I might like it more than others. High on Life had the same score and I thought it was pretty good.
Yeah, I've got quite a fondness for 6-7/10 games, usually if I haven't paid £65 for them :messenger_grinning: that way, when I play them I'm looking for the positives and often find something good in them. In the meantime I've got a massive backlog to focus my intention on.
