I think PlayStation lost a lot of its "magic" by porting its exlusives to PC

What you're describing is nostalgia.

Hearing the PS1 / PS2 startup sounds for me produces a strong evocative memory.

Playing it through an emulator doesn't produce the same response for me as it does on the original hardware.

I have an original Williams Defender Arcade cabinet ( One of the best games ever by the way ). The feel of the controls etc is of an order of magnitude far greater than can be found via mame and generic stick set.

System UI design was better. I agree. It's partly nostalgia, but also partly the actual system UI design.

I also miss Nintendo system UI design that had music and other other sound / art elements, instead of just being a plain storefront.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Sure thing, so when I figured out in early 90s, I can play Mortal Kombat on my new Amiga 500 I lost half of any admiration to arcade saloons located in my town.
Later and to this day, if I know I can play a game on my personal computer of any kind, the "magic" of arcade saloon is gone completely.
I hope this explains my feelings.
Thanks but sorry, I still don't get it.

But as many said, the games on PS5 are the same before and after being ported to PC, so who cares?

That is what I try to communicate making this thread. You are right my friend.

I can see that, sure.
I know that every game I buy on ps5 will come out on pc and people will play it for cheaper and with better graphics... and that kinds feels off... But it doesn't change that I play a good game day1 and some games are still not on pc.
I wouldn't say no to bloodborne on pc.

Why does it matter to you if people buy a PlayStation or not?

You can still get your console. And people who don't want one can play on pc.

People get to play the game, everyone gets happy.

This is without a doubt the only and biggest pro consumer move they ever made.

I get it sucks for sales war, but ad a consumer its only a win.

I'm still waiting for Nintendo to release their games on PC. They won't lose their magic anyway.

Season 2 Lol GIF by Insecure on HBO
Every single one of their major releases is playable on PC anyway; they may as well get smart and start to profit from it making it official.

The games don’t come to PC until years later and all of the games don’t necessarily come to PC. The PC ports aren’t always great. It costs thousands of dollars to have a PC that runs the Sony games as well as a PS5 and you also are likely to spend hours and hours of your time on nonsense like drivers.

So the magic was that only people with a PS could play them?
Right? Imagine what a fucking lousy magic that is.

I guess there's a reason if a lot of Playstation exclusives lost some of their "mystique" since then. Once people outside of the Cult started playing them, they turned out to be... Games like any other.

Well, yeah, I still stand my ground.

Exclusives "suck". Let me play your games where I want to play them - we'll all be happier.

Ridiculous that I have to buy two almost identical consoles to play everything I want.

It's not like the game itself changes by being ported to PC. Why is it more "magical" if its exclusive? A good game is a good game no matter what platform its on.

And people cheer for this shit, too.
Imagine if you were asked to buy a different model of TV depending of what movie or TV show you wanted to watch.

Oh no, Sony wants to make extra cash on the largest platform after they've sold millions on their own platform! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

No, platform agnosticism is always a plus.

It helps with game preservation, and it makes emulating consoles redundant when all it's games run natively on open hardware (Don't get me wrong, i'm not shitting on emulators, love them)

but also, I sold my PS5 recently because I rarely used it and most -if not every- title is coming to PC.

Dude, come on , this doesn't affect you if you only own a playstation console, at all. Games are still being made. Is it because you want to score some imaginary virtue signalling about exclusives?

As someone who owns both a ps5 and a gaming pc + Steam deck, i think its a great thing.
If I want to double dip on Days Gone or GoW when I sale, I can and play them on my steam deck.
If I want to play on fast loading ps5 without having to setup streaming from pc (steam deck docked is not good enough for current gen games rendering at 1080p+, fine for older games though).

As far as magic, the ps brand lost that a long time ago. It shines through from time to time. Naughty Dog going woke, Bend studio getting rid of long time lead devs of Days gone over anti woke twitter tweets. San fran bubble.
Killing off Japan studio, Killing vita early, not bringing over the entire ps1/ps2 catalog to ps4/5 that was there on ps3/psp. Not making old games compatible with new systems, ps3 games Resistance and killzone trilogies, Socom, and infamous. Not making a psp emulator for ps4/5. Not having dedicated wrpg/jrpg dev. No longer pushing inidies and only pushing AAA games.

So many things they could be doing, but aren't. Compared to Microsoft though, they are killing it as they still bring out the games.

I feel like this is a game war attitude. For me I actually like knowing that the devs have another avenue to make the game successful, it seems selfish that those with other consoles cant enjoy the games. People hoarding art for talking points.

As a PC gamer i disagree.... obviously.

With Game Pass the need for an Xbox is nil.

With PlayStation brining over their games, its only a matter of time before day 1 releases come to PC also.

I will say games like The Last Of Us & Spider-Man deserved to be experienced by as many people as possible.

For me, PlayStation got this magic notion, thanks to great quality exclusives like Ratchet and Clank, GT, among others.
PlayStation was like an arcade saloon, and if you have ever been to one, you know what I mean by that.

But now, they release one by one, all of its pearls to PC, so why bother, and buy PlayStation 5 if you have gaming PC?
Sure, you can play earlier, but it is not the same anymore.

What do you think?
Find an identity for yourself outside of a multibillion dollar corporation that doesn't give a shit about you.

Does the fact that i can play BOTW or Mario at 4k 120fps on pc diminish anyones enjoyment of these great games? Nintendo are really missing a trick not releasing their games on PC.

As on owner of both I used to agree with this but lately i've been actually using my series X more. Mainly because MW2 stutters something crazy on my set up, that and the convenience of it.

I agree but, aside from Returnal and Sackboy's Adventure, nothing of value is lost from porting their games onto PC. Sony's output is very zzzz at the moment.

Yeah there are hardly any exclusives anymore. No point in buying a PS5 if you already have a PC.
Nah... I have had a gaming pc since 1990 (latest being a 3600 ryzen zen 2, geforce 3060ti , 16gb ram, ssd, etc...) and I still got a ps5. Why my ps4 collection all carries over. So many of those games arent' on pc.
Also not all exclusives are on pc.
I'd rather a plug and play experience for gaming at my tv. Load times are seamless.

I play pc while on slow days at work. I also have a steam deck. I also own a switch, which i love too.

As a pc gamer, the only system that has no relevance to me is the XBOX. Every game from them is on pc/steam deck and I don't like their style of excluvies much, outside of mainline forza (not horizon), and fable.

Okay. What game(s) then? Not including random indies.

Couldn't care less, In fact its great news for me as I just bought a steam deck so whilst away snowboarding I can start playing days gone. Win Win.

That’s true but it’s a good thing for us. I may not even get a PS5 at this point, if I can get all their games on pc.

I need a new computer so may as well kill two birds.

I don’t understand this at all, you are upset that the exact same games you got, someone else is now? Years later.

How does it impact the older games?

IMO the magic was gone once these console lost their custom chip. They are just like PC the porting is easy basically console are lower-mid end PC now. All the games are just scaled depending on the hardware. 🤷‍♂️

It will definitely affect their 1st party game design as all the fuzz Cerny made about PS5 but now they have to put multiple PC configurations to mind.
Hardware wise, it was never unique.

The only big thing it had going for it was the SSD speed, but eh

Tempest Audio and DualSense are extras, and tho I love them, they can be easily tossed aside for the PC version, and would never be essential for the design of 1st party games

Nah, they wont make exclusive games with potato PCs in mind. PS5 exclusives will be ported 2-3 years later (see Returnal, and still no R&C, Demons Souls and etc., so maybe an even bigger gap)

I dont see Sony adjusting their games design for weaker PCs 'cause it simply wouldnt be worth it. Xbox will have to do this 'cause Series S, but Sony would be stupid to do it.
