25 minutes of Final Fantasy XVI Revealed at the State of Play

I don't consider it a controversial opinion to claim FFX, FF12, FF13 and 15 presented themselves with more imaginative settings than 16 has thus far. It's obvious they are going for grounded and medieval-looking setting but of course some will be turned off by that given the series' highly imaginative legacy.

I swear every time someone voices the least non-enthusiastic opinion, they get jumped on for having "wrong opinions". Been like that the whole thread here.
FF12 IS a grounded and medieval looking setting. Literary has the same Art Director as well. What did you even play?

The only difference is that Ivalice has more races.

And if you're referring to when it goes from political drama to full alien for the last hour at the end. I'm almost 90% sure that's going to happen here as well knowing the team and the hints already given.

Eww it’s way more DMC like than I was thinking. I was hoping it was more like the last game with “fake” action but this has a blocking, a quick doge and real 1:1 attacks . 🤢

for an old fan of the saga who dropped out after xii, i couldn't finish both xiii and xv, this final fantasy xvi looks amazing in every aspect.

yoshida's team know their stuff, it's no coincidence that they all have a crazy portfolio

The character models look kinda shit compared to what they managed with FF7 Remake, which seems weird since that was a PS4 title. Those big titan battles look epic (especially all the crazy particle effects) but everything else is kinda "oh yeah like FF7 Remake... but not quite as good..."

Also I watched both on my 4K TV and came to the same conclusion.

I'm with you DenchDeckard DenchDeckard

You seems heavily invested in this game that is not a jrpg 😂
I’ll play it just because I’ve played every FF ever released but the move to full on DMC is not interesting to me at all
I'm glad they moved to pure hack and slash, its what I've always wanted ,I stopped playing Xenoblade becuase of them not having made it real time hack and slash combat

It was a beautiful presentation, very pyrotechnic to show off, but... Can Clive stick two hyper textured rocks with green glue? No, I don't think so.
Can he stick with Ifrit and throw himself in the air against Ramuh with a fabricated rocket? Again, no.

Give me a selling point!

I think you have some rose tinted glasses on. FF7 had small zones, average to terrible textures, and uses bitmap skyboxes. There is nothing going on as complex as let’s say, the forrest section shown in this presentationI say this coming from having recently played the game again on PS5.

Main character models like Clive for example look great. FF7’s models are top level though. However they do drop on quality from in game from cutscene. Is this the case here?

Im not confident this argument will hold up if you start doing side by sides.

I find Soken's music to be particularly painful to the ears. No idea how he manages to have a fanbase with his shamelessly generic and monotone music.
This sounds better than most of his stuff tbh. But I agree. I find his production to be a bit messy at times. I do like what I am hearing melodically in the trailer though. Thank good no horrible rock songs like in FF14.

14 has the best music in the series, so…..

This game looks incredible, and has every time they have shown it aside from the trailer they showed for the ps5 launch. Definitely the game I’m most excited for this year. I’ve been playing FF since the late 80’s, and its damn time they changed the combat and brought it back to a more fantasy based setting.

This is the first single player mainline FF that looks like it might really be great since the release of FFIX.

I have to wonder how many FF fans actually wanted anime fights at the cost of losing traditional strategic combat.

Do you have an intelligent response to what’s wrong with it, or you just here to hate?

Its like none of you have played DMC, game has some of the best combat in gaming.

If I want to play DMC or any other action game, I'll go play that.

If I want a JRPG, I won't be playing FF16 that's for sure.

Those aren’t FF fans they are people who want FF to be something they like.

I was excited for this game.. but not anymore. 🤢🤮

Hell, you didn’t mention Sugiyama, and he’s better than those 3 as well.
LOL Ok. We obviously have drastically different tastes. I prefer straight melody, synth, and bass grooves more than stacks of swaying harmonies and vocals, but I can understand why someone would like that.
14's music definitely isn't bad. It's certainly not as bad or bland as 12 or anything. Though my favorite 14 tracks are mostly the Nobuo one's. (Though I really like the Asiatic tracks and a few of the Shadowbringers themes that Soken did.)
There are very few Sugiyama tracks that I actually enjoy all that much melodically speaking.

Lol FF has never had strategic combat, ever, except for Strangers, and it feels completely ignorant to say DMC doesn’t have strategic combat. Far more strategic than mainline FF ever has.

I seriously can’t believe we’re pretending turn based combat in FF is strategic.
