it seems that Xbox is still advertising 60 Fps on the Redfall physical box for Xbox Series

People in this thread asking why Microsoft is releasing a game they already delayed twice after what happened in 2022?

Watch this game because of all the negative PR attention that's making the title more known to average players, sell 2 million copies in the first month and be a success just because of the publicity. Gamers have pushed the bar so low for this game that I would argue it's almost impossible for the game not to leap above it.

Scores shouldnt be updated though, if you want to teach them a lesson, let those low scores forever scar the game. That will teach them a hard lesson about launching unfinished
I don’t agree on that, there needs to be a way to show that a game has crawled back from the dirt so they actually care to keep updating a game like Hello Games has done with No Man’s Sky.

And some games get worse after patches and that needs to be displayed too.

Everything should be about showing the current state of the product someone are about to pay for.

Steam reviews work well imo, a score can be updated, it shows how much a gamer has actually played, when posting the review and total playtime, and you can filter for recent reviews which catch how patches has improved a game, and it shows if you’ve received the game for free which means shills can get filtered out.

Because they had good PR. Behind the scenes, things were still a mess.

Having 60 FPS on the box for Redfall is nowhere as bad as having Halo Infinite on the box of the Series X only to have it delayed at the last second for a full year.
Nothing new there, my crystal Xbox has Kameo on the back of the box 🤣

Never seen a game cover mentioning fps on its cover. Deathloop doesn't have it. Must be a xbox thing.

They obviously printed the sleeves when they thought the 60fps mode was going to be ready. The sticker is just on there to make sure that the sleeve isn't misleading buyers. You see stickers stuck on top of packaging all the time. Sometimes when something doesn't have charge cable but the box says it does, or maybe the box says no cable is included but they decided last minute to throw one in there. Quantities on food items even.

They didn't want to waste the paper on reprinting them, it's not an unfathomable thing.

I meant I have never seen 60fps advertised on a game cover before. 4k, Dolby, etc. for sure, but not the fps of a game. Not making any other overall point.

They used to put it on some X1 disks, not that there were all that many 60fps titles on there. I don't have any Series disks for reference. I see they've changed the little logos and the positioning a bit for the new sleeves.

Seems optimistic to me. Everyone I know is only playing it because it’s on Game Pass, and that was decided long before the negative press.

This never really looked to be a game that would sell gangbusters even if everything was going in its favor. If anything, there might be a spike of one month GP subs when it launches.

Man they found out that they were not going to hit that 60 fps REAL late, didn't they?

Also love the "It's coming sometime later, trust me bro. Just buy the game" vibes.

Why not just delay the game a little bit and prevent all this negative blowback? So many weird choices with this game.

This must be the first time i see a game with a fucking note attached to the cover:lollipop_grinning_sweat:
There have been a handful of release with stickers on the covers for various reasons. At Nintendo we stickered some games/consoles. Like we restickered some games that had been printed with the esrb on it, and covered it with stickers of some south American rating on it instead.

Right, so 2 million copies.

Redfall went from a game with people complaining about the characters shown long ago at the reveal trailer and being a broke left 4 dead, to now circulating all over as some kind of attack on gamers and the key to Xbox's demise all of a sudden, the interest in this game has for the wrong reasons jumped up exponentially not long from launch.

Yeah, that is unprofessional commercially and wild as shit. Xbox is a house on fire. This is why you change out bad leaders asap before your company hit an iceberg.

Why does it seem like studios outside of Sony and Nintendo rack disciprine?

Why would it be that studios outside of Sony and Nintendo rack disciprine...

Ditto for gaming.

And while not necessarily ideal, this is common corrective practice amongst CPG companies and acceptable from a federal regulatory perspective.

Just saying. 😀

I mean we literally know this game was headed for PlayStation plus Xbox and PC as a multi plat until MS bought Bethesda and yoinked it away. So it's being watched closely along with Starfield as a test for how successful the MS monopolist strategy of buying 3rd parties and taking their previously multi plat titles away from PS will be.

Man Xbox really is in shambles isn’t it ?

Its so weird as it seemed they had strong cards at the beginning of the generation. Oh well
They can now hire Don Mattrick and nobody will notice, they are in this territory of brand damage again.

I suspect they knew the performance mode was not stable enough, hovering between 40-60 fps, and decided to cut it out at the last minute. I wonder if it was the correct decision. Maybe they should have followed the Jedi Survivor approach, with an abismal perf mode at launch that has avoided them 2 weeks of bad press and criticism even BEFORE launch.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
There's always a chance redfall comes to playstation, prey and deathloop were big moments on playstation.

I'm actually not a fan of the "keep delaying" idea. At some point this game has to come out of their pipeline to get its spot in marketing.

The longer this game gets delayed, the more it will lose whatever marketing sheen it had and its mass appeal goes away.

What's the point of releasing 60fps on launch, incurring additional costs etc, only to find that the gaming scene has moved on?

Avoiding all the backlash and bad press they've been receiving. Not looking incompetent and out of touch. Not causing gamers to lose confidence on the hardware capabilities of SX. Delivering a worthy technical experience for their first $70 exclusive.

Probably. They would've been better off going the Jedi Survivor route for sure despite that being shady and unethical.

Even better though would be for all these companies to take a page from Sony and just NOT allow their games to lack features/run badly in the first place!

For fuck's sake, just rebrand it to unlocked, keep quiet about performance numbers and get your day 1 sales. Is it really that hard?

Prey 2017 has an 82, Jedi Survivor has an 87

ergo, video game critics are useless, as are video game scores and aggregation sites.
Definitely not useless. Video games compared to other medias(movies, TV ect) are much less subjective. Any decent AAA should easily cross 70 metacritic. If RedFall is in the 60's then yikes

Both are not in the same situation. Jedi is a cinematic game so the need for a 60 fps mode is less than it was for a FPS like Redfall, who furthermore do not look that demanding graphically. Redfall is also victim of Xbox bad/weak year so the expectations were bigger for some reasons. New IP vs sequel does not help. For me they needed more time, and not just a few weeks like for Jedi Survivor proably do, but months. We will see how fast do they put a 60 fps mode, and if it is at the cost of downgrades or a pure gain.

Depends of the game. And of the plan at the beginning. For me The Last guardian proves that you can delay up to a decade, skip a generation and still find success. At the same time if the game is fundamentaly not ready better not putting it at all. And some games are too andvanced in their devellopment to be stopped. Kill the Justice league will be sad to see fail if they do not find a way to change the perception of the game. I am mostly en agreement with you. Sometimes you have to release the game. But marketing is the studio/publisher responsibility. It is their fault to release info when it is not ready.

I think you're probably right.

Alternatively, they could have said nothing, released the game and immediately announced a 60fps mode to be added soon.

Either way, they'd have avoided the bad press.

I'm surprised that they didn't predict the reaction they got, even if they now announced the 60fps mode was ready after all and going to be available in a day 1 patch, the damage is presumably done.

But is that even common to find that a game you've been developing for years is not hitting 60 FPS for the only console you're making it for?

This just indicates to me that the game is coming in super hot.

Because they were still making things for the game until only a while ago, they didn't have a final product that they could test 60 FPS at. That's why they got late in identifying the problem.
