I genuinely don't understand why Xbox makes such a huge deal out of MAUs and user engagement.

Like, these are stats you would normally see by the likes of Twitter or Facebook, because they sell ads, so it matters how engaged the userbase is with the platform, but Xbox doesn't sell ads, they sell consoles, games and subscriptions.

It's mind boggling imo.

Just a smoke screen to distract focus from sales and operating profit. Don't think about it too much.

Early Jan is when I heard it needed another year and they almost got it while MS brass was pushing for an early '23 release

I did ask last night if there was any good news recently on Starfield with how Redfall launch turned out and the only reply I got was a laughing gif

This one specifically

Spider Man Lol GIF
it's going well then?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

The weirdest flex ever, dude.

Well it's better than the alternative of them losing employees or the studio being shuddered.

Someone posted earlier that even MS just wanted to get this project out of the door, if the game wasn't coming along in a good shape even after a 12 month extension, then it was probably never going to, even if they delayed it again.

In Redfall? I've only played for about an hour or so. I'm about to play some more.

I've finished Deathloop around the release date and it was a decent game. The problem is that it was worst than the previous time-loop game from Arkane: Prey Mooncrash. I strongly recommend that DLC if you haven't tried it yet.
You got about as far as me in RedFall. I was wondering if it gets better further in. Speaking of Mooncrash, that's what pushed me to put time I to Deathloop. I did enjoy Deathloop more, but that doesn't take anything away from Mooncrash, which was awesome.

I voiced my concerns about this game before it came out and got called a concern troll. Whos concern troll now mofos?

Same ^

Got called a console warrior .... all that crap. But if you put things into perspective if Sony or Nintendo launched a 1st party game like this for $70 they would get the same backlash.

Any critic related to Xbox = fanboy , which makes zero sense. I am honestly shocked it took this game bombing for people to wake up and caught on to what has happened with Xbox.

What time is it?

Dollars to donuts, employees will be lost over this.

This game feels like a levee broke, I haven't seen such anger at Spencer in a while.
Well there have been some small wins the last 10 years like Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4 and 5, Psychonauts 2, Crackdown 3 campaign (I liked it), Sea of Thieves, Halo 5, Halo Infinite campaign, Ori, Pentiment and Hi-fi Rush (some others) but there should be MANY more AAA 1st party games, especially since the 20+ studios were acquired over 5 years ago.

I didn't follow up and maybe things are in fact going great but just a few months ago it was being compared to Cyberpunk levels of disaster so not holding out hopes its going to be great at launch

I think it has a chance to be a great game sometime late next year but fairly concerned it will be pretty broken at launch
Are you referring to Jason's comment? That one came last year, in May 2022.

Because the actual sales of most of their games must be rather unimpressive due to having a smaller install base than Playstation/Switch and a subscription service model that encourages people to subscribe instead of buying games. They need to find another set of metrics to gauge the success of their games.

It's like if Disney started releasing MCU movies day 1 on Disney +. You'd probably start hearing more about how many people watched it instead of how much it made at the box office.

Oh. current year. You are ever so predictable.

And that character model lighting and shading is 2004 MMO bad.
Isn't there was a news about AAA games need up 1 billion$(leak microsoft docs), so maybe 1 billion not enough for character model 2023? :messenger_winking_tongue:

I just played Redfall for the last four hours.

It's fine.

It doesn't really do anything memorable (so far) and it clearly lacks polish. Feels more like a Steam indie shooter than a first party AAA release. I haven't played more than a few minutes of any previous Arkane game so I have no frame of reference there, but had I spent $70 on this I do know I'd be pissed.

For the cost of monthly GP, playing multi with a couple friends is fun enough. Me and the mates all still expect to see it through to the end and it is far from the worst multiplayer game I've tried on game pass in the last few years.

If you want to view this in the context of "Microsoft's first exclusive AAA release in forever" or "Xbox needs a win after the acquisition" or any of the other horserace stuff, then yeah it's kinda shit. I'm having a good time but idk that I'd recommend it.

If this was a $20 Steam early access title and not 1st party Xbox game it'd be viewed much more favorably.

Different genres and all that, but Hi-Fi Rush is 10x the game this is.
You really summed up the problem at the end. If this was a $20 early access title, it would be viewed more favorable. But it's not. Ignore the price tag, just the early access alone is key. It's a final product that feels like an already access game. That's not even deserving of a 6/10. That's saying you feel this game isn't even finished and they just pushed it out for support from players.

I've been saying this. MS pushes preview games out the door as final and fixes them up later (sometimes). They should be paying people to play some of their games. We went from beta testing being a job to early access being a privilege for consumers. I don't even think Nintendo or Sony allows early access, and if they do I rarely ever see anything like it. Microsoft has had Game Preview (ie: early access) on several titles.

I’ve been confident that Starfall would at least be a typical Bethesda release.

Now I’m starting to think it could very well turn out to be a mess. If they fuck Starfield up some heads need to roll.

52 pages, man really went far on this one.

Ive read more and more reviews today, and if I was on the fence, I have already moved from the property. This game is a dud.

Yes? Do you think GamePass is a big enough success that more people play games through it than buy games? But all we hear on GAF is the numbers are dwindling and theres no growth. MS says it’s 10-15% of revenue.

Your argument falls apart because all of these games are available to buy without ever subscribing.

But what if that's the reason why people don't buy the games as much? It's hard to argue both are true. If GP is so big and successful, then that only means more and more people will be choosing to NOT buy the games like they used to. Because why have GP, if you aren't going to use it properly?

At least summer is nearly here and the game drought will begin,Microsoft can just let all the drama from this release die down......would be terrible for Xbox if Sony were to follow this up with a big high quality exclusive of their own............................................I'm sorry........FFXVI you say........coming when?........June?........June 2024?........what!!!!......this June.......next fucking month!!!......Oh dear god!!!

Why have GP if your theory is true and the games are all meh?

It’s a weird strategy, let’s get all our customers on this sub service by giving them crap. But hey let’s also sell all of this crap outside of the service. It seems like it will fail on both levels. People won’t subscribe to GP, people won’t buy the games. But we know people still do both. And we know they have provided great games since the service started.

Oh no. This is not good at all. I swear I don't want to see Xbox go out like this. Not like this. Phil Spencer MUST push Starfield back to Q1 of 2024. THIS IS A MUST!!!

Remember when Xbox released the original Gears of War and Halo 3 in back to back years? What the fuck happened?

I got my xbox with all the gears games bundle. End of an Era.

Guess Microsoft these days thinks videogames are the same as software...just buy competitors instead of being creatives.

Problem is most of companies absorved by Microsoft does not develop a soul or a core identity and instead "navigate" on a confort zone...just look Rare.

Sony also buys other companies but its approach is different..and it seems most of developers share the same goals as Sony's...

All the games aren't meh. Forza 5 isn't meh. Plus.....they have some good 3rd party games on GP that are good too. But there's a reason why people called GamePass the "best deal in gaming".

I've played a few hours on PC. Is it horrible? No. Is it good? No. It is just ok. I'm going to keep playing if that tells you anything. Maybe it will get better.

This game could have been a hell of a lot better if it were delayed. I'm convinced of that.

Spencer better not pull this shit with Starfield. If that game needs to wait until 2024 then fucking delay it.

The last time I spite-tried a game was Death Stranding and I ended up fucking loving it.

I spite-tried Turdfall last night and as you can see by my very humorous and intelligent wordplay, I did not end up "fucking loving it".
I'm going to play it today. I watched two hours of the PC version last night and it looked good. No glitches. Is the issue just with Xbox?

Nah let it die. MS isn't in gaming for the games. I want competition for sony, but best its not microsoft. And with the way sony has been going lately, i don't think they'll need much competition.
