Indiana Jones by MachineGames Officially Revealed - Coming in 2024 | Xbox Direct 2024

I am so excited for this! I do love adventure games, loved Uncharted 1-3, Loved the Tomb Raider reboots. I also really enjoyed the last two Wolfenstein games (never played the DLC everyone whines about though), so I love everything about this game. The voice wasn't perfect Indy, but everything looks and feels like exactly what I want out of a Indiana Jones game!

So Excited Flirting GIF

Some of the best games ever made are first person so the whining about it is fucking bizarre. Games like this can totally work in that perspective as well, for example; Thief, Butchers Bay, and Dishonored come to mind.

I wont speak for everyone else but I can't stand FP combat melee. So hopefully whip and gun will be very viable. In Thief and Dishonored I went full Stealth just to avoid the combat. Avowed will be full magic for me as well.

Not sure about it being first person, although it was kind of expected considering the developers.

Looks fun though! Pretty great trailer. I’ll check it out for sure.

1st Person is a strange choice. Would've preferred a Jedi Academy-style perspective where it's 1st person when holding guns and 3rd person when you change to the whip/sword/melee.

Still looks sick either way.

I hope it's fun. I love everything I saw. Slightly worried about the first person perspective but hopefully they nail it.

The biggest issue with first person is that it minimizes the most recognizable thing about Indiana Jones - his silhouette. You always know that it's him in the movies as soon as you see this:

If you were to take a glance at this game during the moment-to-moment gameplay, there is very little that signals to you that this game is Indiana Jones and not just any other first-person shooter. You are only reminded of the fact during the occasional third-person cut away. It's a huge blunder by the developers and no amount of "it's in first-person to really make you feel like Indy!" is going to fix it.

Yep, not having his silhouette makes this game basically unplayable!

Game looks great. The exploration and puzzle solving look really promising can’t wait to play.

I also learned today that many people apparently hate first person games? News to me. I suppose they could have just gained for an uncharted clone, but this is right up Machinegames’ expertise and providing something new. I’ll take that over copying others.

look at the cyberpunk thread buddy. no conspiracy theories

You should check out Breakdown or really, Starbreeze's Escape From Butcher Bay. They got it right.

These guys can handle first person melee. No worries there.

I tried it in Butcher Bay just doesn't work. It's just not a form of combat I enjoy. Even in Skyrim I can only go mage or archer. This game seems to have more than just melee combat so I think I'll be fine either way.

It is an amateur decision to shit on a game because it is FP. How the fuck did you ever get into games if you don't like FP games?
Yes it is.

If literally the most common takeaway from your game unveil is you got the wrong perspective then you mi
messed up.

Not to mention that they know that parts of the game will require 3rd person yet they still persisted with the awkward hybrid.

As for how I got into games, Metal Gear Solid bro. If you're on about online shooters, Socom 2.

Represent.

When did everyone start hating first person games?
This is an action game. I want to see the action and my character do cool shit. The combat is guaranteed to be underwhelming now. And the graphics aren’t good enough to make you feel immersed.

Despite what they tell you,
It’s an amateur decision fueled by their lack of confidence to go at Uncharted or Tomb Raider in the 3rd person action adventure department

Just so you know, that was exactly the common takeaway from the public when it was revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 was first person. Pretty much everyone expected a third person game.

Certainly didn’t mess that game up, eh?

I doubt anyone expected Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay to be a first person game after seeing the movies.

I certainly didn’t want it to be First Person pre-show. But the showing looks really good, and I’m looking forward to the release.

First person takes me completely out of it. I understand their idea is "you ARE Indiana Jones" but I didn't need to be in first person to feel like I was Nathan Drake, or Lara Croft, or Arthur Morgan, or John Marston

But not a single one of those characters existed as an iconic movie franchise character prior to the games. Nobody had “be Nathan Drake” as a tagline for the first Uncharted game because nobody knew who he was.
duh

A female investigative reporter that tags along for personal reasons that acts as the secondary protagionst? My, how original.

accusing the game of a lack of originality in having a female sidekick, right after knocking it for not being an Uncharted clone?

Watching what was made available today, it looks objectively worse than Uncharted 4 did in terms of both cutscenes and third person gameplay elements. That game is 8 years and a generation old.

‘Third person gameplay elements’ make up a small fraction of the gameplay, and that’s just stuff like going up ropes, climbing etc. that’s what you’re comparing to an entire third person game?

Not surprise with the comments here....no matter what people will always complain about Xbox games lololol

Will buy day 1, glad to see the franchise finally getting a modem game.

Try harder. People here gives Xbox games their fair shake, probably more fair than the average. And also bitch about many recurring issues in Playstation games they do not like.

I know it's scary to think that opinions that don't align with yours might actually come from some place other than blind fanboyism, but you'll get there

This is the only game that really makes me want an Xbox. I'm a sucker for Indiana Jones.

Except Crystal Skull. Still trash.

They wanted it to be an uncharted clone so they could make fun of it for being an uncharted clone and tell everyone how they aren't going to buy it even though they wouldn't buy it no matter what it was or how good it is.

Maybe my expectations for media just get continually battered as I get older, but I rewatched Crystal Skull the other day and didn't mind it as much as when I first watched it. Samme for the prequel Star Wars trilogy ... again, maybe I'm just so inundated with modern bullshit movies I've just lowered my standards lol

You guys are freaking me out. It's insane that someone who roasts another on "getting into games" thinks a) everyone should like FPS and b) any and every game could and should be one!

Saying this as someone who plays FPS every day. I don't expect it to be everyone's genre, and I think it was a dogshit amateur decision on this game.

You're welcome to add your differing opinion without acting like the other board members are "lesser gamers" over it
