Anyone notice that pawns emphasizes words like Gman in Half-Life?

"You found a material master. Materials can be used for craft-ing.

Yeah, you just got to think of the guest pawns as things, not people. Things you hurt and abandon because they are no longer good enough. I like to let them die on purpose, after they have served their purpose, then replace them with the new thing.

I'm terrible for that! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Elden Ring and Bloodborne took me days to actually get ingame!
I usually take some face build on internet, and start to edit after i followed their guide. It works faster rather than started from scratch.

I kind of agree with time we took as well 😂

I got the Warfarer vocation, the weapon switching class a few hours ago and it is pretty crazy, we will probably see people doing combo videos with this one, it's basically Dante's style switching from DMC.

You can change to all 10 weapons and you can even choose the order at which you change them.

Unfortunately you use the same 4 skill slots for all weapons, they don't change when weapon switching (probably to keep this vocation balanced) and one has to be the Rearmament Skill which is the one that let's you change weapons to begin with, so basically you only really have 3 skill slots but they can be any skill from the other vocations with the exception of the ultimate skills.

You can however use all the Core Skills and Vocation Skills, so: Blocking with a shield, Anodyne spell with a staff, Sidestep with daggers, etc.

As a bonus you can get experience for every other vocation while using this one, you can literally level up every vocation at once this way.

I know some of you will be disappointed about only having 4 skill slots but overall I like the idea of the vocation relying mostly on Core Skills, and the potential of some devastating combos.

Brutal, but honest truth. They are created (by story or lore) to be as a tool rather than friends.

Unless my own pawn. I treat my own pawn like my partner. Just like the first game.

They have commentary about every party composition I've put together. Currently hearing about how I have nobody with melee. Have also had my pawn asking for a better weapon because I stuck her with an old bow to tide her over until the ox cart got us B-town so I could buy an up to date one.

Ok, so 16 hours in and I think I can give a fair assessment so far, at least of the early game

I do like it, its not a bad game at all I do however have some cons to it

  • The lack of the game telling you vital info, it likes to give you some but not the right ones sometimes
  • The healing system fucking sucks, I get what they're going for, the need to rest at inns/camps, but that early game is far too costly to start with, reduce it for new players and it'd be fine
    • Speaking of, can you ever recover the lost health part aside from resting?
  • The Fighter combat is fucking awful and clunky and feels like a game from 2012, you have no ranged options and a lot of flying enemies, so rely on Pawns to hopefully get them down, this may change of course as I play on
  • The quests are fun and I do like how they're laid out
  • The lack of Fast travel is bad game design in 2024, I do have a few of the stones now, but the early quests send you really far out and as mentioned in one of my earlier posts, does little to tell you you're gonna be unable to progress back somewhere, it does make me want to just buy a load of the stones, but I ain't supporting that
  • The world design and atmosphere reminds me a lot of Dark Souls 1
  • The larger enemies are very OP for the early game with far too much health, but I can imagine them being pushovers later, they're usually slow and clunky
Now I will say, I am considering switching to a Mage, so that could work out a bit better

I switched from fighter to berserker when i had the chance and melted the various cyclops\ogres etc., just switch to that class if you want a melee class that feels powerfull.

It's extremely slow tho.

Surprised at how much content is packed into this map, at first it seems lacking but there is stuff hidden everywhere. I think I actually prefer the exploration in this to Elden Ring, never thought I'd be saying that!

I just reached the main quest chapter where you enter the capital in the desert, is this near the end?

Just rehire them lol, if the host is playing they will come back with their current level.

Don't do this, give them a good rating if they were useful.

Fighter is probably the most well rounded vocation, well equipped for any encounter, they can also easily reach flying enemies with that skyward slash skill.

The larger enemies are very OP for the early game with far too much health
Well ofc they are, you aren't playing an action game, you're playing an action rpg and large health bar enemies are essentially world bosses and if it looks like you can't do any damage, you're fighting it too early.

I dont think lack of fast travel is bad game design. Its intended so you can find lot of pawn and discover many things in the wild. Also can be useful as resource gathering. And its like an adventuring game in your area. It might be cumbersome for most people. But i get the devs point for that. It makes me more inmersive, imo.

As a thief, with 12 hours in, I am killing Ogre/Cyclops in what ? 30sec to 1 min ?

They really feel easy. I mean everything feels easy with Thief.
Most mobs die in one hit : aggro them with the grapple, then one shot kill on the ground.
Grapple is the ultimate skill for thief against most mobs (humans, lizards, goblins etc).

For Ogre and Cyclops, just a combination of Helm Splitter + jumping in with strong attack on the head to attach to them and continue attacking, and then when stamina is low just use Powder Charge or Gut and Run on the eye/face.
When they start to loose balance, grapple them to the ground.

You can add them as a favorite... dismiss them... and then search favorites and re-hire them. As long as their human has been leveling them... they'll come back at their new level and with any new gear/skills.

Only thing might be if their owner changed their vocation since then, then that will change too. So might need to make sure its still a good party comp fit.

I still need to finish the HFW dlc before jumping in, but I have a 4090/13700k combo, is the game really that bad on PC?

Im on a 4090, 4k, RT, Max everything.

Its usually always over 80-90fps out in the world and including combat.

Only time it dips is when I go into a city, and then it dips to about 45-50ish fps.

Side note... I actually turned off DLSS and got BETTER performance. Something is fucked up there lol. Not kidding I turned off DLSS and it looked cleaner and I got about 15 extra frames.

Theres some mods on Nexus that are supposed to fix DLSS and give massive performance boosts... but I heard it was also crashing some people so I havent messed with it.

But overall if you have a 4090 I think you'll be fine unless 45fps in the cities is gonna drive you bonkers

I had 3 things left at the door. Wondering if that's what she means. If not she's talking about a fucking child that has taken to just come into my house and follow me around the town and she actually blushes when she talks to me.

Did the slum girl quests and that maxed out her affinity. She's the only one so far. But I did go to the whore house and I banged a cat while I was there. I got naked but she didn't. What a tease.

So I activated the griffin quest, exit the own and get attacked by a griffon that flew me to its nest, killed it, I run like 200 feet and find the dude who wants to draw one from up close(the quest giver), he takes me to the same nest and another griffon is there next to the first ones corpse. So I killed that one too. Felt a little bad lol.

Played 12 hours. Having a lot of fun just exploring the world. Think it looks really nice and I like the art style. I’m not totally sold on the combat. Its still fun enough and could get better after unlocking more skills and or trying out different classes.

They really nailed the power fantasy of these vocations. They are all satisfying in their own way.

Made my way to the desert bio. Yuuuge step up in challenge.

Breh, maybe my first drake should have been in the first area. I didn't think about him being harder in the desert lol

Edit: and yes, they really did. I love every class. Such a good system. I'm never bored like I could get with Elden Ring. Sure, you can respec, but I always ended up doing melee roll roll melee, heal. I felt way more locked in with that system. This one is almost perfect.

What level are you? I went there at level 26 and I’ve leveled up twice already. Enemies there give so much exp.

Also, nighttime gets a little hairy. Good stuff. Actually had to use a potion.

I have questions. Are there more biomes? I know there's a desert. I was reading on reddit that there's less enemy variety than in the first game. Is that true?

I think I was ~30 when I beat my first one. Took an age and I only lived because of the cheat death potions lol. Im 40 and the second one wasn't any easier so maybe it's adaptive.

I really like that they left the pawn name filter pretty open. So far I’ve got a Kratos, Mr. Slave, and Yennefer in my party. Good times!

Any advice on what crap I should keep vs sell? I pick up everything and am quite heavy already 😂

Feeling meh on the mage vocation, I'm not digging the long charge times and more passive combat.

You unlock a core skill that let's you hold L1(for me at least) while casting to cast faster using more stamina. It's a support class though, so it can be boring if you like more action. Lightning bolt is fun. Sorceror is the one you probably want.

Warrior has some insane moves

Makes me chuckle when you fucking bitchslap a griffon, stagger it almost constantly and pop their health by 50% shots when downed with a charged attack, but a single sole goblin sees that on the horizon and decides you're the group to attack 🤡

Had a very good night, killed so many monsters and progressed in story. I'm loving it.

Anyone notice little things, like when you kill a harpy with that jumping move, if it happens to land on your back when you land, you stumble forward? Or if you're going down an incline when it's soaked, you'll slip? One time I was just walking and tripped over a tree root and landed on my knees. There must be some background die rolling to determine certain events. It's so cool.

I love when games don't hold your hand. It's been an absolute joy playing this game and NOT having to rely on nonstop way points and quest markers to guide me every single time. I said this before, but it's brought that sense of mystery and discovery factor that I've wanted in games since the 80's to the early 2000's.

The game reminds me a lot of Morrowind, but with much, much, much, MUCHHHHH better combat. Only thing I wish was the regular battles were more challenging.
